Not to mention the editting. Lumet's Fail Safe...with no on screen action or enhancing music cues...builds a suspense almost on the level of the original Jaws...but utilizing only editing, and camera angles with the precision of a swiss watch....That is not easy to do.
"You get your psychiatrists I'll get mine". Nice audition coming up this afternoon. Lead in an indie feature. My "type" - the usual. Here's what I do for inspiration - absorb one of my favorite performances by a first rate, start-studded ensemble - the great Bob Duval's in particular. Sidney Lumet and Paddy Chayefsky in da' house yo. Immortals. #actorslife
This is the greatest period in cinema acting imo, "New Hollywood" (late 60s - late70s). I think this kind of realistic acting is rarely seen nowadays because now they want actors to grab you by the hand and throw at your face how you supposed to feel. They don't trust the audience's intelligence anymore, and they're probably right.
Duvall is on fire in this scene. Excellent acting. What a great run he had in the 70's. Godfather I and II, Network, The Great Santini, Apocalypse Now. He even pops in to The Conversation.
The script and acting in this film is something else.
Yep

Duvall's look of smug self-satisfaction when he tells Max he'll have him thrown out is priceless!
Next time I tell someone off, I'm using that look!
That look along with the hand pats to the forehead.
Every time i get fired i think of this scene.
How many times have you been fired?
@@Legba85 you really should not ask

Robert Duvall is next level
Duvall shreds this scene. Always makes me laugh
Everyone is brilliant in this film.
Starts with the writing. From three-time Best Screenplay Oscar winner Paddy Chayefsky.
2:35 My favorite line of the film.
The nonverbal gestures of him patting his forehead and nodding for emphasis are incredible.
I'd give anything to have Holden's voice-----
bt10ant Start smoking!
Smoke weed, the smoke'll get your voice like that sooner. Thicker, more of it.
A Face in the Crowd and this movie showed the future of the intertwining of media, entertainment and politics. And now we live it
So this is where Tom Hagan went to work for when Michael bounced him out of the family business.
Sir Duvall is the one who makes this scene what it is !! At least for me !! The rest of them are priceless too !!
He makes it a big fat big-titted hit.
"BIG TITTY HIT"!!!!! Paddy you were a genius lol.
Happy birthday to Frank Hackett.
Calm down, Tom Hagen
The writing and acting are fabulous! Why can't they produce films like this today?

Mr Ruddy had a mild heart attack after getting the swine flu vaccine of 1976
Very good, Frank. Keep it up 👍🏿
