This is not an album, this is a miracle of Music and Technology
It's an inspiration
I couldn’t agree more. If you haven’t already, check out the polyphonic UA-cam channel and his vids on the tracks from dark side.
@@firesailstudios1003 Get the SACD of Dark Side Of The Moon and you will need a upmarket DVD/SACD Player plus a TOSLINK Cable plus a YAMAHA DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 Decoder or a YAMAHA 7.1 DOLBY DIGITAL ATMOS DECODER unit to really enjoy this album.
...and genius, and musicianship, and Roger Waters's lyrics
No it's not a miracle... This is real music. Real music combined with fantasticly written music that is brilliantly recorded, edited mixed and mastered.
That is of course my humble opinion about this masterpiece.
Especially the time signatures and the timing of the artists is fantastic!
It is not for nothing that this album is considered one of the greatest in the history of music.
I've never listened to any other album front to back over and over like this one.
Just behind tattoo you. 🤣
Pink Floyd was unique due to Roger Waters' theatrical/thematic and lyrical genius, Dave Gilmore's melodic blues influence, Nick Mason's ablilty to make even the slowest of grooves swing and Rick Wright's sublime jazz influence ... they also just played what the song needed and knew when to step back and when to step forwards, but it was the blend that made it so special. It wasn't just rock, it was a whole mix of things.
Please do more classic albums like this. Brilliant idea!
The problem is this video will probably be pulled by the copyright holder, so listen and watch while you can.
That’s a great idea. Let’s get on that Dr Mix
26:35 Rewind speak, was my favorite part of the video.
The "Breathe" jazzy chords progression to resolve back into Em was inspired to Rick Wright by the listening of "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis, as our beloved Rick said in a lot of interviews.
@@koontroll3364 why rick?
Richard Wright said he lifted the transition from G back to Em in "Breathe" straight from Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. More specifically, it's from the track, "All Blues". Where it moves up 1/2 step from a D7 (I think) to Eb7.
ua-cam.com/video/kqlJhliN4ys/v-deo.html
I could never figure out what part of Kind of Blue he refered to....
Yes, The G, D7#9, D# dim7th, resolve to Em. the yt channel David bennett piano has a video that covers that and others that is called Rock and pop songs inspired by jazz. It took me forever to find what video it was so please go watch it.
@@gregmyers81 'All Blues' it's not exactly the same, and the fact that it's not, is a perfect example of the human creativity, and the difference between that and what I believe AI will ever be able to do on its own. That is, barring the likelihood of the emergence of AGI from the extremely inefficient, and rigid transistor based computational systems that are computers (another thing I find highly unlikely to be possible). Davis' goes from D7#9 to Eb7#9 where Wright D7#9, D# dim7th, to Em, just taking inspiration from davis not flat out copying the exact steps.
I love almost all of this album’s songs equally, but Any Colour You Like (the instrumental jam before Brain Damage) is always a bit special for me. It has phenomenal sound (a bit “trippy”, but still bluesy or even funky), and the playfulness with which they trade phrases, how they connect to each other - that always gives me goosebumps!
The same for me. It is a “small” number compared to others on the album, but it is very essential to the record. And it is amazing music!
Any Colour You Like best instrumental track of all time and the live 7-8 min versions on various bootlegs are amazing as well.
I want to talk about the oscilloscope on the background, synchronized with the audio in the studio..why do I love this stuff?
For the same reason I love it too.. we're GEEKS 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@Doctormix I want the same! What model is this?
@@tikhonnnnn I believe it's his trusty old Hitachi V-222 20Mhz scope.
@@Doctormix use it in x-y mode. Lissajous curves are even cooler ;)
@@madmodders Wow, I am going to buy it immediately...
Richard Wright’s musical interests were fundamentally trad jazz from an early age. Very talented he taught himself to play trumpet saxophone guitar and piano. I’m a massive Floyd fan luckily to have seen them numerous times. Great stuff 👍🏻
PS - love the socks
hahaha I just realised now that I forgot to put my shoes on in the video 🤣
@@Doctormix thanks. I was lucky to see Pink Floyd on The Wall tour back in 1981 with Roger still in the band. He’d gone by the time I saw them again at Wembley Stadium in 1988.
R.i.p Wright
I was just going to say that the jazzy bits were mainly down to Rick :)
I love them too, self-taught too, great! I did not know. I saw their concert for: Another Brick in the Wall on TV a long time ago and it was really great, so to attend it for real, it must be amazing ... As I told Doctor Mix, I have 2 double CD albums from Another brick in the wall, one of which is live really different from the one recorded in the studio, but I love both, and I have this fabulous album that I played a lot of times also and that I will be ironing today, Doctor Mix to give me a taste again, lol!
David Gilmour said in an interview that the 7 to 4/4 transition in "Money" was put into the song because he wasn't comfortable soloing in 7, so it was more of a practical decision than a creative one. I always thought that was really cool, because it ended up having such a huge impact on the song.
The creativity is never with the goals, but how to reach that goal. And the way they transition IS creativity.
I was about to share this too! Love that interview!
Nobody going to comment on Claudio's amazing impression of a record going backwards?!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I do have a couple of party tricks that I'm saving up for the good occasions 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That is my fave album of all time.
That is an album that you just listen from start to finish every damn time no exceptions.
And if Claudio likes the album for its jazziness he’d love Steely Dan’s Aja.
It's not your fave album of all time...
It's THE best album in SPACE TIME....
I've listen to it a couple of thousands of time since I discovered it in my youth.
Yesssss!!!! Finally!!!!!! I've been waiting so long for this 😍😍😍 It's like Christmas came earlier this year!!! Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
There are MANY reasons why this album was on the billboard charts so many years. One of the best albums ever made.
The best album in the World EVER and the best Synth Lord on UA-cam. This was brilliant, thank you!
Congratulation! I think you're about the first UA-camr that pause at and skip the much beloved Time guitar solo - not to mention questioning the choice of Clare Torry and Dick Parry - without every angry fan coming at you😂 Anyway, great video as always!
In high school we would start this album and the old Wizard of Oz movie at a certain time and it’s funny how the music and scenes match up a lot (coincidentally? Idk) Like right when the movie starts to be in color with all the green is when he says Money! and a ton more
Together with ‘Wish You Were Here’, my favourite concept albums of all time. Fantastic teardown here, Claudio. Please hit it and do more of these appraisals. You’re truly wonderful and supremely talented
One of the best selling albums of all time...Love Pink Floyd.
The chord sequence of "Us and Them" was originally written by Richard Wright as a bluesy piano instrumental for the soundtrack of Michelangelo Antonioni's movie "Zabriskie Point". The music was finally not use in the movie but the chord sequence was not lost and became "Us and Them".
Always love how mellow Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, and Queen were. As a kid I would grow up listening to a mix of jazz, soul and pop. So they were really easy to get into listening to.
I don't even play music anymore. But seeing how you're enjoying yourself and music is really inspiring. I love you.
I just woke up .. tons of snow .. overcast and cold .. and you made the sun shine, the snow melt, and brought warmth to my heart. I was a young kid listening to this album .. my brother playing it almost every day for months .. and today I am young again.. Claudio you are amazing, and being a musicain .. your words and video etc are even more special.. Peace Brother ✌
Only a genius can analyze a genius. Well done!
We want a Pink Floyd x Doctor Mix album:)
A Turntable should ALWAYS be used in place of crappy digital files!!!! Bravo Claudio!
always loved this album and you make me discover so many new things about it, I'm really admiring your profound music knowledge and the way you bring it with fun and good humor, if only we had more teachers like you
Thank you for making me remember this wonderful record. I was 20 years old in 1973 and we danced endless slow dances to this music.
The greatest Album of all time
BEAUTIFUL
its not the best of all time
@@jonasvm Right: it's the best album in space time.
@@garryiglesias4074 it's not the best album in space time.
@@jonasvm Of course it is, it would be mad to deny it.
Yet to find a video with such enthusiasm and respect for Richard Wright’s contribution to PF as this one.
My dad insisted I was named after the man himself and I couldn’t share this video quick enough with him. My dad’s not musically trained but always made me realise how important Richard Wright is to PF
Thank you!
And my son has the name of the cover of DSTOM, I mean the name of the scientist who did "The Cambridge Experiment" (note that the name of what is pictured references Cambridge... ). Anyway: Sir Isaac Newton (I just kept "Isaac" :) ).
The moment i started watching this had to pause it, go listen to the whole album. Loved watching you build the chords on the fly for this! Spectacular!
Loved this and Wish You Were Here in my early 20's. Got to see Floyd live three times. So perhaps this is why later I like melodic Jazz, like Pat Metheny Band... and lots of electronic. Great breakdown!
Now that is a great idea.... How about Travels by pat metheny group?
OK for jazzy chords progression in TDSOTM and we can also hear the jazz side of the moon in the rythmic moods of the album with a kind of lazy swing in several songs, notably in Breathe or the sort of jazzy waltz in Eclipse
At 14:22 i started to cry and i just don´t know why...because it´s so beautiful ? I always start to cry when i hear the great gig in the sky....this was a coincidentaly rhyme...of me....
I do not think/feel it is correct to try and pigeonhole this work of art. Musically, and spiritually, it is transcendent. I was 18 when this album came out, and there just happened to be the best LSD ever available at the time. Orange Sunshine Barrels! WOW!!!!!!!!!! This album and Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy were the albums of THAT summer!!! Mind-blowing!!! 1973: Unforgettable!
As a wanna-be musician, I've listened to this album since I was a kid. I would have paid anything to get a master-class lesson about Dark Side of the Moon then. I'm so happy, that 48 years later, Dr.Mix posted this information for everybody !
I really love the heartfelt breakdown of these tracks. This album just really evokes a different state of being for me 😍🎶 ...it's sort of a melancholy joy. Great vid, much appreciated! ✌️😎 Just what I needed before slipping off to dream 😴
Claudio, after almost 49 years after it’s release in 1973 you have found once again to break down a classic rock album and find a great way to analyze I started listening to when I was 12. Great again I love when you call call out the chords so cool👍😎
Agreed. Awesome ear. Totally impressed
I've seen quite a few of your videos and this was the best so far. Keep up the good work!
Tears and goosebumps all the way through. Utterly marvellous Dr.Mix. You achieve in 20 minutes what I have spent years disassembling and enjoying. Thank you for unlocking some of those elusive and epic chords!
My favourite album of all time! This was awesome, you are gifted!
Ah! Money, what a famous and fantastic song too
AH ! Money, quel morceau célèbre aussi et fantastique
You're Awesome ! Thank you for the opportunity, to learn from you're vast harmonic Talent and ability, to express it sooo good & nice for my ears. Cheers Doctor Mix!
I like watching you deconstructing and reconstructing classic music. It makes me wish I learnt music when I was younger as this is another language to me. Great video.
Mind blown 🤯 Thank you, Claudio for giving me a new way to listen to one of my favorite albums.
That was a fantastic discovery. I loved that album and played it to death in my younger days but NEVER noticed the Jazz Side Of The Moon.
Holy Wow, I fell in love with it all over again!! I even got chills up and down my spine because I knew the songs so well but it’s like it’s now reaching my deepest soul.
How cool is that?!!
Claudio, you are amazing!!
I feel deepest respect for these guys and you to be able to create an play something like this. Just epic.
Thanks a lot for this wonderful tribute to this album and this clever lesson of music . You're really a great musician . Congratulations
Just realized, that the dark side of the moon is an analogy to life: starting with the heartbeat as Intro... then you... breathe... (birth) The last tack is the great gig in the sky. Which is what our soul is searching for, spiritual development. truely amazing album. Maybe the greatest of all time (till now).
"The great gig in the sky" is always my favorite track of Pink Floyd and on my top10 musical pieces in general.
Amazing music Dark side if the moon.
Thankyou for stripping it down like this, I am learning so much from your videos.
This is Gold!!...watching from Los Angeles, please do more of this! 👏🏻🌟🎼💙😌
Thanks for this @Doctor Mix. I grew up on Pink Floyd. Really enjoyed this break down.
Once again the master speaks!! Keep doing what you are doing. When working with our band a million years ago, I used to work out the arrangements much the same way. Figuring all the chords and such. Even though I'm not playing much anymore I still learn new tricks to my music knowledge!! Thanks!!!
That was great, I quite like the idea of album analysis like this. This album was so ahead in many ways.
These deconstruction videos are brilliant. They unravel the complexity of music. They make me appreciate the music more :)
Even better the second time around. I watched the premiere as my plane was landing in the Caribbean :)
Thank you so much, Claudio! My favorite album reviewed by one of my favorite musicians! What a great start for the day. Thank you.
big fan of you ! the way you feel music explain what music is for living beings.
A wonderful and unique look at one of the classic albums of all time. Thank you!!
Nice video! I love your videos! Keep up to the good work Doctor Mix!
I always like when a knowledgeable musician (you) pulls apart and opens up interesting work. Its both educating and interesting, Thanks
Fantastic and fascinating, more of this please! My all time favourite album (I remember it being released) had so many copies of it, and still play it. Really interesting listing to your comments / deconstruction.
a re upload seamed to work Claudio, I need to bring back the fact about how good your studio looks! keep up all the great work my man!
I love this one. And I love the fact you went ahead doing this one with vinyl. Truly one of the the greatest albums ever produced.
Wonderful video. Great analysis. And even a true, real vinyl experience, complete with clicks and pops. Just an amazing album. The chord changes are what's missing from a lot of modern rock. OK, almost all modern rock. I LOVE this album.
You're doing a technical Rick Beato type analysis! Love it! 👍🏻
Straight up awesome! Love this channel! Thanks for all your hard work!
I love this format WAY TOO MUCH thank you
I love Pink Floyd! Thank you for this video Claudio!
Great review and Expression of the Pink Floyd's master artwork! Thank You Very much for your invest of time, groove, heart and music - and of course THE JAZZ in all of it! you bring it near to feel it and its Enthusiasm!! Thank you Doctor Mix!! I ❤️ IT!! best regards, Frank Liebe
One of the most beautiful and iconic pieces in music history! Genesis also has very interesting chords or arpeggios (like in the Colony of Slippermen). Grazie per aver condiviso!! You're great!
That's a pretty controversial statement about The Great Gig in the Sky. The vocal on the track is one of the all time greatest IMHO.
I've developed a real appreciation of Rick's keyboard playing and harmonic choices over the years too. He was underrated.
If nobody has mentioned it 'Dub Side of the Moon' by Easy Star All-Stars is an amazing reggae version of this album, (way better than I would have ever guessed from the concept)
I really enjoyed this! It's a great album and you sure know your stuff! Thanks for this
One of my favorite album !! This album is a paradise of sound ! Thanks to make a video of this fantastic music 👍😉
I'm not into rock either but I knew there was something special about this album. Thanks for showing us that it was jazz!
Enjoyed your video so so much... Thanks, it was an awesome experience to hear this record with you.
Rick Wright’s influence in this album was huge. It’s a tragedy of history that he gradually lost confidence and Roger froze him out, rather than helping to rehabilitate him as Dave eventually did.
Totally agree, Pink Floyd is one of my favourite bands of all time, Roger maybe not one of my favourite people though. He certainly has talent but the way he treated some of the other band members was pretty cruel in my opinion. His ego got the better of him, it’s unfortunate but he did exactly the same thing to Dave as well.
Dr Mix thanks for this insight. Awesome video. You have endless information to share.
Absolutely loved this deconstruction of Dark Side of the Moon.
its the masterpiece and I have the orginal master recording in LP of it also the cd and sacd - its a album for lifetime and i know it since it came out - i also make my own tracks and videos of it - you can always discover something new even after listening hundreds of times...i like the raggae version of it too - thank you for play this :-) Claudio ... . Pink Floyd rules ! the beauty of it is how they were able to put technology and emotion together - it leaves you breathless while listening, that was my first impression when i first heard it and i still love it today. R.I.P. Richard Wright..you are not forget
this was some really beautiful analysis. i was glued to this video from start to finish
Glad to hear it!
Awesome video, love it! More! I absolutely adore this album!
Finally you talk about Pink Floyd, my favorite band of all time ! I will enjoy this for sure, especially with Us And Them on intro ;)
Brillant Analysis! I have listen so many this record that never stop listen about Jazz influence on this record! 👏
Doctor Mix full of forensic Jazz Chord Analysis party tricks!!! Much Love!!
For me the best album EVER………………….it has everything on it. Bought it when it came out in 72 and still play the tracks today
The Dark Side was my first bought record. Now I own still the first one, have a second one to play and a third to be kept new.... Also a CD, the remastered version.... And now your splended explanation of the jazz side of the moon. I will now listen this record for a few weeks from now. Big Thanks, Dr Mix!
I love this album, and I love the way you use to talk about it... Thanks a lot.
and, your english is perfectly clear for the Frenchy I am ^^
I probably understood only very little of what you were demonstrating and analyzing here but that was magical and fascinating to watch because A I am a big fan of Pink Floyd and B because of your passion to music, knowledge and great ability to deliver complex concepts in a fun and interesting way! 🙌
The Dark Side of The Moon is the Best Album Ever and you made a great work on this! Congratulations!!
oh yes!!!! that's why doc mix is different by any other music channel. keep on with these kind of contents ;-)
This is one of my favorite albums. Take care. Stay well, safe and happy!
Thank you so much for this wonderful analysis! You made me travel to my youth and taste all those chords again but now with more technique, flavor and emotion. Thank you Claudio.
Whenever I get a new piece of audio equipment, this is the album I listen through it. It's my reference point. The core thing that all of my musical world revolves around. There's simply nothing else like it.
Thanks a lot Dr Mix, one my favorite albums of the 70's, please can we have more like this what about Roger Hodgeson's song called School, thanks, (Grazie) I was in Milano Italy in February 1991 for 2 weeks only on a working trip and just love the culture and food.
Uno de los mejores análisis de dark side que he visto. Gracias
Epic Claudio, my favourite album for over 45 years!
This is the best video of this channel. Congratulations, bro! Richard Wright was the soul of the Pink Floyd. Hugs from Brasília - Brazil
