    As a background in professional sound engineering since 1984 I would say - the richness of your speakers can be improved a lot by mounting them flush on a surface with _much_ more air volume behind them. With those tiny bracketish frames they can not get enough air to move according to the needs for music - more as a telephonic voice.

    • @christobacon1
      @christobacon1 3 роки тому +4

      I need to check those speaker specifically but I doubt that would make a difference. I mean it would normally but from what I've seen in the video, they're closed in the back so additional air volume would require the back to be removed to do anything to sound quality which may not be possible to do. Also, even if that was possible to do, there's literally no bulkhead thick enough to do that so it would need to be done by sacrificing storage space which is a premium abord a boat.

    • @robertgarbe6348
      @robertgarbe6348 3 роки тому +2

      They are probably vented and the enclosure pretty much only enhances the very low base, not worth it.

    • @robertgarbe6348
      @robertgarbe6348 3 роки тому +2

      Then I am confused even more, as an enclosure or a big cavity would be totally unnecessary.

    I sure hope you are safe from lightning strikes. You have everything electronic. My first sailboat a Pearson Electra sloop, Alberg Design, was a good blue water sailboat, but in the 1970’s there was no Internet, no GPS. My boat had a compass, 1 12 volt battery, a Marine Band radio, paper maps, and a 20hp long leg Mercury outboard mounted to the transom. Plain vanilla sailing in those days!

      @@pemerson56 Sorry to hear that. Do boats have a capable lightning rod setup from the top of the mast to a ground plate on the hull? I had a bolt hit my TV antenna and it blew out all my audio/visual electronics and pulled some 10penny nails out of pine studs 😳 surge suppressors may help. I had a number of visitor information computers in centers at National Parks for a few years. All had good surge suppression and grounded outlets. The buildings were hit routinely, taking down everything except my computers. I did have one or two suppressors toasted, but saved the high value stuff!

    Mads… regarding the nav station, you may consider making a partition in that large opening to mount your monitor. Ergonomically, you may develop neck-soreness from looking down at your monitor display. Better yet, make an adjustable bracket to allow monitor height adjustment so both Ava and you can be comfortable. Respectfully, Tim

I hunt, fish, skydive, scuba dive, ride motorcycles, race dirt track cars, of course sail, but in probably the most illiterate person when it comes to computers and technology.

    Call me a Yacht Snob, but installed stereo systems on boats is a huge pet peeve of mine. Music is very important, you should absolutely have it in whatever fashion you can, but installed systems are cumbersome with wiring and power not to mention how quickly they become obsolete. I'm a big fan of the JBL portable bluetooth speakers. You can have just one or ten, you can use them in any space on the boat or off the boat at beach parties, and if they become obsolete you can you upgrade without any installation hassles. Best of all, you'd be amazed at how good they sound.

      @@advancingaustralia2913 agreed also. Got a Bose and a B&O both are not perfect but excellent at least and you can move the Wifi B&O pretty much anywhere makes having diferent zones for music on a boat pointless. Batteries last longer than you would be listening to music so duration is not a problem.

    For your monitor I think you should look into trying to flush mount the thing or at least recess it as much as possible. You would gain so much space on the desk which I would think is more interesting than angle adjustment especially since the bracket you bought doesn't have any of that.

    I think your best bet for the extra remote is in the cockpit. If you need to pause the music mid-sail to get someone's attention that's inside, it's a lot easier to reach for a dedicated button instead of trying to get to the right screen on the chartplotter or get your phone out.

    Wow Eva, Thanks for taking me on a revisit to Madurodam. I served in the US Army in the 70's and 80's
    and I was posted to West Germany for three years. Whenever I could wangle a four day Pass I would try and take a trip somewhere. I decided one weekend to take a Bus Tour to Amsterdam. No, it was not for the Hash Brownies.
    I may have mentioned all this in a previous posting but one of my favorite places we visited was Madurodam.
    I am sure they must have updated it since i visited in the early 80s. Did it still have the Harbor with the big oil tanker that caught fire and the hoses on the mini fireboats put it out? I think there was an airport too with moving airliners.
    It was too bad you had to go see it alone.
    They did not have those cool interactive exhibits when I was there. By the way I bought those same mini shoes. They are a small sample of Delft porcelain I believe. I bought mine at the Delft Museum in Amsterdam.

    Made purchase a couple flashers to put about 4 feet ahead of the fishing lure your using, the flashers will attract the fish to your lures and give the lures a jerking motion like the lure is something alive swimming. That triangle piece is a diver you put ahead of your flasher and lure to make it dive deeper in the water when your trolling it behind your boat. You should invest in one of the new braided fishing lines that have a small diameter but I high breaking strength.

When you do the winter upgrade, maybe you could look into a mount that will fold down and lock into place, and then extend up to eye level while you use it. Spiffy!

    Great video. Not sure the Mac mini is your best bang for buck! What was the story with the black water sensor? Did you figure it out? How is it meant to be connected? So you have link to it please? sounds like an option for my fuel tank which I can't access from the top to install a standard sensor. fair winds

      On a boat it's essential to minimize power consumption. The M1 Mac mini provides a combination of high performance and low power consumption that's far superior to Intel hardware.

      Well.. I’ve had my latest MacBook Pro for eight years now and I work as a cinematographer and use it daily for video editing and tons of other stuff. It only shows small signs of wear and still chugs along without complaints. So my take on this is that even if the macs cost more they will last a lot longer than the cheaper competition. And best of all, OSX is included in the price and I never have to use windows ever again!

      There is little difference in modern PC and Mac, outside of the OS..
      What said the M1 Mac Mini with 16GB Ram punches above its class.
      - Avoid the M1 Mini with 8GB Ram
      My 2013 PC runs just as well as my 2013 Mac.
      Both are dwarfed by my new Mac and PC hardware.
      (all are used daily - yes my office looks like something out of NASA lol)
      My advice to people is learn common troubleshooting when switching OS. There is a learning curve...

      Why go with an AC powered computer on a boat when you can get the exact same system in a laptop?

    Does the chart-plotter allow for playlists off the USB stick?
    That was a feature I always wanted and never really found in the various soundbars I have tried in my workshop.
    I gave up on soundbars and went to ear buds due to royalty issues on youtube.
    Some white packing foam cut into a U and dropped behind the monitor should take out the wiggle.

    You’ll get a great welcome in the UK. Have you decided where to go? Plymouth may be much less expensive than the Solent/ Southampton / Hamble area, whilst having lots of marine facilities. Falmouth area similarly , but much further west.

    So Mads, what happened to the DIY generator with the itty-bitty Perkins? -and the dryer portion of your washer dryer combo? I am also guessing that since you are now in the UK, Ava's visa extension didn't come through? I know; lots of questions... :-)

    I'm liking your nerd station. You said your going to recess it a bit but I reckon set it back as far as you can on that other wall which I think is the back of the saloon. Just take that whole panel off, mount it and make a timber trim or frame. For now though a couple of rolled up socks will stop it moving.
    I've got minimal electronics on my wooden boat not because I don't like to geek out but I found a moist salty environment and electrons don't mix well and for me, if it can go wrong it will but I'm guessing/ hoping the newer items are more resistant.
    What sort of lightning protection have you got? Loving the show and your enthusiasm.🏴‍☠️

    Oh and also, thought it was funny how the two narratives ignored the other. I thought you were going to do some sort of Seinfeld ending tying them together at the end! 🤷🏻‍♂ Also, can the monitor telescope up a bit to reduce neck strain?
