One of the best 90's sci-fi action films ever by the great Dutch producer Paul Verhoeven.
Arnie absolutely kills it in this film great performanceby him.
    A modern classic masterpiece now.

90s is the best era of Hollywood ever. This movie is a perfect example of it. It has the Philip K Dick amazing sci-fi story paired with the 80s action-humor. How can anyone not love this movie. Super cool and weird story keeping you guessing, and Arnie being his big beautiful self spitting cheesy one liners and whoopin ass. Man I wish Hollywood would pull it's head out of it's ass.

Saw this film on release week and my mind was absolutely blown by it. The musical score, the special effects, the action, the twists and turns and the one liners. All Arnold at his film making peak. He'd conquered the World of Bodybuilding and he was conquering the Action Movie genre of the time. Still one of my favourite Arnold films to this day. Thanks for sharing bro. 💪🏼

I graduated HS in 89 and I had friends who worked at the Universal Cineplex, so for the next 2 years I saw more movies than any other time in my life. Sadly, most were garbage, but every once in awhile, a stand out film came through, and Total Recall was one of those movies. This film gave me Hitchcock vibes from his best films, while taking place with a weird Sci-Fi backdrop, this is easily one of the best films in the genre.

There were a number of movies in the 80s and 90s that I personally considered "quantum leaps" in movie special effects and this was one of them. Great movie. Spielberg movies like "Poltergeist" and Zemeckis' "Back to the Future" trilogy and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" would be on that list too.

Then watch Predator, if you haven't already. IMO that's the best movie AS has ever made. I think that's what aliens would really be like. Not peaceful and curious, but deadly.
The next best movie is True Lies. I know it's not an eighties movie, but it's still one of AS's best, IMO.

    • @stang5755
      @stang5755 Місяць тому

My personal top Schwarzenegger film will always be The Terminator, but Predator is a *very* close second. Happens to be my old man's top Arnold flick too.
And indeed, for about a good decade there was just hit after hit, especially up to and right after Total here. Though it should be noted Arnold had a big hand in production of this one, including getting Verhoeven as director.
True Lies is a great one as well.

The storyline is from a short story by Philip K. Dick. A great sci-fi author. Here are some other works of his that have been turned into films or TV series. Bet you've heard of a lot of these.
    -
The Man in the High Castle (TV Series)
    Electric Dreams (TV Series)

    Films:
    The Adjustment Bureau

    Total Recall *****

I like the clothing style Arnie wears in this movie. His jacket and pants are the same color scheme that he wore in 'Commando' (which happen to be similar to my high school colors).
4:46 Here's something I've never understood about movies. Take a look at this scene. See what the weather looks like. We've got one guy wearing a sort-of-short-sleeve, sort-of-sleeveless shirt right next to a guy wearing two long-sleeve shirts. Only one of them is dressed appropriately. What's with the inconsistency there? All the rest of them are wearing long-sleeve shirts too, so maybe it's just to show off Arnie's arms.
7:33 What does she mean when we says "standagrate some alien stuff?" I've never in my life heard anyone utter the word "standagrate" before.
10:50 I used to think Judo didn't involve any kind of strikes since it's a "soft" style based on takedowns, but it turns out there actually are some striking movies in Judo. Contrast with Taekwondo which is a "hard" style focusing on impact strikes (but with a few takedowns mixed in).
24:08 Exact opposite of a Patton style of leadership. Patton wanted people to display independent problem-solving skills.
28:31 We find out later that he kinda does.
30:33 Why does that seem so familiar?!
46:22 "That's a new one. Blue sky on Mars!" ~Ernie

It took the longest time before I found I had the movie completely wrong. After he goes to Rekall it's all in his head. The light coming from the sky at the end is his brain being cut into since he went crazy with the artificial memory.

The director says in commentary that the white light at the end is Doug being lobotomized :O Everything that happened in the film was discussed by the workers at Rekall, including the girl on the screen, they mention "blue sky on Mars", and the guy saying that "he's not gonna want to come back" which is all foreshadowing for what happens.

@angryspudsinc.599 Fake memories do not send you to a Matrix-like dream world, you live your life believing a falsified past event in great detail. Quaid doesn't remember going to Rekall, they erased the memory of him visiting them after they accidentally uncovered Hauser's personality. Remember, they didn't implant the fake memory yet, and they never did, but Quaid doesn't know that, and the movie tries to target our gullible nature.

Cool idea with the oxygen reactor bit....however IF you could split the water molecules down you would end up with 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom and you would need another process entirely to capture all or most of the hydrogen and add nitrogen so we could actually breathe....pure oxygen wouldn't work and I'm pretty sure 2/3 hydrogen would have bad effects on us.....not to mention be extremely flammable (think the hindenburg on a planetary scale lol)

The Martian atmosphere is extremely thin, and it's not breathable... Er here is what Google AI has to say about it:
"The atmosphere of Mars is primarily composed of carbon dioxide (around 95%), with smaller amounts of nitrogen and argon, making it very thin and significantly less dense than Earth's atmosphere; this means the air on Mars is extremely thin and not breathable for humans, and the sky would appear hazy and reddish due to suspended dust particles."

This story is too unbelievable to be true, I think that in reality Quaid is a vegetable still strapped to the chair at Recall, and he chose to remain inside the delusion forever.
One of the main clues: nobody in his right mind would ever choose Mileena over Sharon Stone, c'mon...
