With its stomping beat and chant of 'T-R-E-X', things kick into gear. 'The Groover' was the 11th Top 10 hit in a row for T. Rex in the UK - Marc Bolan's final assault on the Top 10 and in many ways, where his golden era ended.
10 singles in the top 4 2 kept off the top by novelty records Grandad and Long Haired Lover From Liverpool Bolan has some legacy and plenty brilliant albums to boot
@@michaelcameron2292 Yes Michael and I distinctly recall '2Oth Century Boy' which was the first single I ever bought being held off the No.1 spot by Donny Osmond. Those crunching power chords,, made it a stone-cold rock classic, and never should a track have sounded so obviously a No1 record...but wasn't

Some of Marc Bolan's coolest rhythm guitar work. The B-side, Midnight, had some of his most kickass lead guitar work. Here in the US we only special ordered the domestic 45 or lucked out and got Great Hits on import.
This record more than any other takes me back to the hot summer of 1973 and my holiday job as an attendant in the 'Golden Goose' Amusement Arcade in NewBrighton ..the arcade's jukebox was stuffed with fantastic Glam Rock from Bowie, TRex, Wizzard etc. but this fabulous chugging stomper really recreates for me (even more than Drive In Saturday) the feeling of that summer of glam. "..I said sing it to me , children..."
So grateful to see Marc’s original promo videos coming to the fore on the official account. This may have been the top of the roller coaster, but few have influenced Pixies (and Bowie by proxy) with such a deceptively simple tune...a groove like adamantium-coated Chuck Berry. KALMIYH. 💙
T Rex was the band I liked when I first got into music at the age of thirteen, and I still have a soft spot for Marc. I think this was the last of his great singles before the rot set in and he came out with tripe like Whatever Happened To The Teenage Dream and New York City. I liked listening to its b-side, Midnight, with its rather nutty guitar work, and trying to count how many times he sang "Last dance at midnight" - if that is what he was singing!
my mum was listening to this with her sister every time they were over when I was a wee kid and I grew up to love marc bolan and t rex and really got me into rock like i remember dancing around the living room in the 80s listening to marc bolan greatest hits and pretending to be marc bolan
Lana Alexander 😂 That's brand new to me, what do you mean by: Elvis Moves? I can't see any.Over the many, many years, I have never, at any point in time, recognized any Elvis Moves .Can you say at what second or minute you saw which of these, how you say : Elvis moves in this video? 😘
The glasses Marc wears were from a selection of 3 pairs he bought while on holiday in the south of France. He gave one pair to Mick O’Halloran’s wife - a few years ago she gave them to me! ALSO - check out the brilliant cut of The Groover on Bump’n’Grind as it has the full version and brings Marc’s guitars to the fore - it was great fun mixing it from the multi-tracks.
Yep, you are right. It's called having a style, a style powerful, sublime and unmistakable so all the little soul'd carpers, kooks, quibblers, blobs, squares each and all can go fuck themselves, because in rock n roll we all must fuck, and GROOVE.
May it be that this kind of jumping we can see at 0:47 is the same as the one commonly known by Angus Young and it was created originally by Marc Bolan?
I remember in the early '70s Bolan was like a God who could do no wrong.....then, this came out. The release was eagerly anticipated for weeks, and I vividly remember the widespread disappointment. His fans felt he phoned this one in, everyone thought it was a contractual obligation to deliver one single a year, and is the best he could come up with. The chanting of "T-R-E-X" at the start was especially tacky, an inexplicable dumbing down. It was never the same after, he'd lost his aura, and by the time of that awful crash, he was long gone anyway, sadly nothing of note 1973-77
He was still very popular until 1974. He had 3 top 5 hits in 1973. He was massive for 3 full years so he had a good run. Also just because his popularity slipped doesn’t mean he still wasn’t producing good music, between 1973 and 1977. Tanx was 1973 and was still successful it went top 5 the same as The Slider and it’s great, Dandy In The Underworld from 1977 his last album also. Also he had many good songs and minor hits in that time. His popularity was actually slowly rising again just before his death
Yes I agree. This was Bolan's last decent single, it all went downhill after this. It's a shame really, but his change of "sound" was a poor choice in my view. It was weak and lacked any punch
@@teawarlock Not at all, you're wrong! Bowie was and will always be a star by himself, no need to steal anybody else's identity 😅 David and Marc were very good friends, David helped Gloria for the upbringing of Rolan after his death 🥰
it's okay, man. you can be attracted to him. we all are. it doesn't matter where your sexuality falls, Bolan is like some weird, magical sex creature. it's okay, buddy. just don't fly into some weird homosexual panic and break your T.Rex records or some such shit.
@@jasongusmann1829 Right, lol..speak for yourself.......I think he meant it was kind of embarrassing to view..It's easy to understand why Bolan never made it really big in America....and it isn't because we're homophobic.........Between the teeny bopper Pop Star thing and over the top records and vids like these.....BTW I'm a big fan of T.Rex and Bolan , but honestly if I'd seen vids like these and other Brit TV appearances I wonder If I'd been able to get into the music as much....All we knew about him initially were the singles "Hot Love" and "Bang A Gong".....
Someone please carry us back to those golden times of happyness!
His last top 10 hit. He completely ruled the charts from late 1970 to 1973.
One of the best bands ever!!!!👍👍👍
A one man band. Marc Bolan rules, okay!

Pure t.rex genius this track should have been a no.1 instead of 4 .Marc had 24 top 40 hits that is some legacy from a great artist
