Buffalo 66' is one of few feature films to be shot on reversal stock - it was an older 35mm stock used to shoot American football games in the 60s, by the late 90s very few labs had the chemistry to produce this kind of film but Gallo was so tenacious that he decided to shoot on it before he secured a lab to produce it meaning that those involved in the production of the film couldn't even be certain that it would ever see the light of day. One of my favourite films of all time.

In Lithuania - where I'm from - we had a tv show called 'Film Snob Nigh'. It was on every thursday night at 10pm on the Lithuanian National Channel. "The Irishman" was the only last mob movie since Martin Scorsese wanted to come back to make another mafia masterpiece and since this movie came out in limited theaters and streaming on Netflix, I was surprise that this movie felt like a good comeback with three incredible granddaddies of De Niro, Pacino, and Pesci and taking back where Scorsese made every mafia scenes including business, having conversations in every Italian restaurants or cafes, having a bowling, and making characters feel guilt for doing bad kills and business felt very interesting in this 3 hour runtime. There is some context to the dinner scene. The phone call clues us in on what Billy's parents are going to be like before we meet them.
It seems like every one of my favorite directors has a movie coming out in 2020. Looks like it’s going to be a great year for movies, especially blockbusters.
"Marriage Story" is actually a great movie of this year and it's more of real people's reality relationship that they've been going through for their marriage and whether or not they still be together or just separated in different certain ways of life. Both ScarJo and Adam Driver are incredibly good and they seem very real to have their performances to be in emotional and kept their roles as they portrayed as real life marriage couples. The best part reminds me when my family have struggle problems especially my two sisters who kept a long relationship have huge issues and for me, just trying to set my reality with myself and trying to prove better in my life so is where Driver literally screaming and outburst with an incredible performance and I felt sorry for him because of his long life career and having problems with her ex wife just felt kind a work if they can't stand for themselves and tear down apart if they couldn't handle their opportunities of praising life. It felt real and watching these two have different approaches to get away from marriage, can be real for most parts of getting married or being with somebody. I actually find it interesting and sure, some people will not know about this movie (if they have Netflix or not) should recommend this movie. No liar reveals and we know its a dramatic film with problems of love life and it's done so good. Yo I hate when society created the entire memes and complain about movies that are great which they don't know, it's a such a waste and why do people still praise "Joker" compare to other Internet these days? Just keep it real people, it's a marriage movie and I think it's a great movie if I don't complain about this or what.
The problem with "vote with your wallet" is A: Most average people have a casual interest in movies at best and will generally go to theaters for casual "night out" popcorn experiences and B: Disney, through mergers and aggressive campaigns of mass marketing and shady practices against independent theaters effectively forcing them to do what Disney demands, has created a monopoly in Western media. Your average Joe after working your average job does not go out to the movies for engaging, introspective art. He goes there for casual entertainment. Disney has a monopoly on casual cinematic entertainment. Disney has proven to be increasingly willing to squeeze out independent films from theaters to maximize profit. "Voting with you wallet" only works in a healthy market environment where competitors have equal access to consumers. Disney has monopolized that market and to be honest, needs to have their monopoly broken up. But given that they are a media company which primarily produces entertainment that may take a while as more pressing issues regarding corporations poisoning the environment or producing unhealthy foods or using sweat-shop labor take precedent over a corporation that makes Marvel and Star Wars movies.
I really liked Adam's answer to "What made you lose faith in humanity." Throwing out "tribalism" can be a meaningless platitude sometimes, but where he went with it really resonated with me.
I also for a minute wondered while watching the latest Michael Bay masterpiece whether he was parodying himself, after the 600th explosion happened in the movie. I then laughed to no one in particular and said out loud "no, that's not the case he still actually thinks explosions and shots or girls tits and ass are badass and cool and are what make a good movie"
Dune, Tenet, Last Night In Soho - 2020's looking good now that my favorite directors are coming back. (The other half of my favorite directors had projects this year: Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Too Old To Die Young, Irishman, 1917, Anima, Hobbs & Shaw, Midsommar, Us, Marriage Story, Under The Silver Lake, The Lighthouse)
A huge reason he doesn't go through with killing the guy is the image of his parents at his grave going through his head. His parents have always created negative situations throughout the film and his life but ironically because they were so terrible it made him not do the thing that would've ended everything. Scott also hands him a shot and Billy does this half smile for a second and tells Goon/Rocky how he seemed like a nice guy and reflected on all the times they were rooting for Scott.
I really did enjoy buffalo. I thought it was strange and weird. I do think it's very much reality-based fantasy. I think the reason she was so fine with getting kidnapped is that Layla is the definition of a manic pixie dream girl. Which isn't always a good thing but I didn't mind it. she was very fun to watch. I also found the main character to be irritating but I did enjoy him a lot. I have a love for characters who are written as bad people. I really love baggage and damage for characters. I think people relate to the bad much more than the good. Anyway, loved hearing your opinions guys!
51:04 or "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" where they reestablish the continuation of two "Ghostbusters" films (than the female version) and making it a back to back theory of all these kids must discover ghosts around the fields and a small town which will be epic and dark soooooooo….that's that.
43:02 To Alex: the answer is yes. If I were him, I'd sell it for two billions too, I wouldn't care. I'd put that money in my own life, my family and my kids, and their kids. I'd use that money on something personal too, maybe a small project, but more importantly, I'd be done with that ultimate creation. I'd be able to stop caring about it, after all the hate and decades of my life spent on it.
It makes sense that you or I would sell out for 2bil for those reasons, but good old George was already a kazillionaire making his decision quite confusing.
i'm from the current year, and adam driver was nominated for an Oscar for best leading actor in his role as kylo ren in Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker
48:54 Yes, that's exactly what will happen in this Star Wars industry that's done enough and we all knew it's probably not going to stop because Disney wants it to keep it safe and everything is too much. I wonder you guys going to talk about "The Rise of Skywalker" so I hope you're doing it next Sardonicast episode because this movie is beyond overplay nonsense.
Why not have a month dedicated to a director, like any month that's dry or uninteresting. Have a Scorsese month or a director you haven't been able to cover on the podcast.
The only issue with the Irishman digital aging is when Robert De Niro beats the fuck out of that guy he still moves like a 70 year old man. So it just looks like a 70 year old dude kicking the shit out of a much younger guy.
Jesus I can't believe you guys didn't talk about the rest of cast like Mickey fuckin Rouke, Rosanne Arquette,Jan Michael Vincent,And Kevin Corrigan as " Rockey"!!?!? I never yelled at the internet as much as this episode! Oof.
Agreed that Marriage Story is great. Such a shame and surprise that one of the best moments of the film has been called 'poor acting' and 'poor writing'. Adam Driver > Joaquin Phoenix for Oscars.
That entire argument scene was one of my favorite movie moments of the year. It was a scene where I'm not watching Scarlett and Adam fighting, I'm watching an actual couple arguing and it's so raw and uncomfortable. Adam's outburst alone deserves him an Oscar.
That one cut in Marriage Story where Adam Driver is leaving after being served and Scarlet says his name. Makes me think that Charlie just had a flick of hope.
I don't know about you guys, but I was taken out of the movie when the child had trouble reading the word time. I remember they said he was struggling in school, but I just found it really hard to believe this eight-year old can't read the word "time".
It's not unbelievable. One of my family members kid is 11 and he still can't easily read single words. Let alone a sentence. Learning disorders are tough.
Disney + is nothing new to see original Disney films and shows or streaming originals, but the site isn't that bad and I go back watch my better Disney films at the time whenever I wanted to see something good. Even "Star Wars: Mandalorian" was pretty good series and "Lady and the Tramp" remake weren't that bad, but a decent one which I can't come back re watching again.

Merry Christmas, Patreon kings and queens!
Woah, it's the king Leon from Letterboxd.
51:04 or "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" where they reestablish the continuation of two "Ghostbusters" films (than the female version) and making it a back to back theory of all these kids must discover ghosts around the fields and a small town which will be epic and dark soooooooo….that's that.
Vincent Gallo best role is being the white guy in the video of Jay Z's 99 problems
I love Buffalo 66 tbh. Granted I'm biased since I'm from Buffalo, but i think it's a really charming film
Michael Bay is the kid of person who has a bunch friends and those give him job. But you wonder "Who the hell would like to be friends of him?!"
He’s a master of squeezing money out of Chinese moviegoers. Of course he gets gigs
You guys HAVE to watch A Brighter Summer Day. Need y’all to watch more arthouse masterpieces
Now that we're 50 episodes in, it's time to question if this was all worth it or not...
Watched the Irishmen in 3 sittings and I absolutely loved it and I think it’s actually a good way to watch the film as long as you pay attention
Also thanks for putting the questions of the Q&A in the description, really appreciate it :)

To Alex: the answer is yes.
“Mike Gorf”, Pop culture architect, has spoken
It makes sense that you or I would sell out for 2bil for those reasons, but good old George was already a kazillionaire making his decision quite confusing.
Thanks guys now I don't have to watch 6 Underground because you just explained or tried to explain everything about that movie
9/10
Great podcast
They did give a spoiler warning, what did you expect?
God bless the guys who put the timestamps in the coments. You have earned the paradise or whatever your religion sels
Adam: The new star wars movies don't really ruin what already exists
The Rise of Skywalker: hold my beer
His point still stands even with the Rise of Skywalker
The way Alex says "Christina Ri-cci" is the most English thing I've ever heard
_So many time travelers in the comments_
i'm from the current year, and adam driver was nominated for an Oscar for best leading actor in his role as kylo ren in Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker
9:01 Wholeheartedly agree. And I don't even care that I took this specific timestamp out of context.
The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes for UNCUT GEMS is pissing me off to no end.
Why not have a month dedicated to a director, like any month that's dry or uninteresting. Have a Scorsese month or a director you haven't been able to cover on the podcast.
Buffalo '66 and the protagonist remind me a lot of Good Time and Robert Pattinsons character in that film
all i wanted for Xmas was my 3 big daddies
My three papa johnnies
My three little chitmuncks😫
Ahhh... Space Jam... Yet more confirmation that Ralph is a small person of taste
The only issue with the Irishman digital aging is when Robert De Niro beats the fuck out of that guy he still moves like a 70 year old man. So it just looks like a 70 year old dude kicking the shit out of a much younger guy.
Holy Fuck the mad man did it! Looks like we busting out our VHS copies of Space Jam boys!
A Brighter Summer Day is probably my favorite Criterion cover
Will we ever live in a world in which the boys aren't CONSTANTLY interrupting each other? Dare I dream the impossible?
It's almost as if they were humans having a human conversation
People interrupt each other in real conversations, you should get out more
talk about Uncut Gems!!!!! pls
4real
Manny Lo Rocket my film of the year. adam sandler deserves an oscar, the guy is barely recognizable. great script too.
Not yet out in the UK, so maybe once Alex has watched it they will.
Callum Ja god i fuckin hope so
Best quick review ever
All my local theatres in Melbourne (AU) are boycotting The Irishman because of its run time
Jesus I can't believe you guys didn't talk about the rest of cast like Mickey fuckin Rouke, Rosanne Arquette,Jan Michael Vincent,And Kevin Corrigan as " Rockey"!!?!? I never yelled at the internet as much as this episode! Oof.
This guys talk Star Wars like The Mandalorian doesn’t exist
>Shows Shining stair scene
“What kind of bad acting is this?!”
Have Alex, Adum or Ralph ever met each other in person before
Ralph and Adum have, not sure for Alex
Ralph, since the oscars are coming,i would like to know your opinion on Dance with wolves,The movie that won the oscar when Goodfellas was nominated.
I mean, the concept for Free Guy was a good idea, when it came out as a book in 2008 called "Mogworld".
So glad Adum shat on those twitter clowns
I enjoyed that intro.
Guys Adum is so smart what the fuck. I’m not surprised I’m just reminded.
@@michaelstrong5383 Agreed.
Joaquin Phoenix deserves it not for Joker but just because of his resumé
Mr. Robot! Season 4! That finale! You must talk about it!
Adam Watch Portrait of a Lady On Fire
That one cut in Marriage Story where Adam Driver is leaving after being served and Scarlet says his name. Makes me think that Charlie just had a flick of hope.
Buffalo 66 is such an underrated movie.
FUCKIN SPACE JAM LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! EVERYBODY GET UP ITS TIME TA SLAM NOW!
Talk about uncut gems next episode
I don't know about you guys, but I was taken out of the movie when the child had trouble reading the word time. I remember they said he was struggling in school, but I just found it really hard to believe this eight-year old can't read the word "time".
It's not unbelievable. One of my family members kid is 11 and he still can't easily read single words. Let alone a sentence. Learning disorders are tough.
Its like the kid in The Nice Guys for me.
Ryan Reynolds buried alive:
GET ME OUTTA HERE! I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING! OH FUСК!
Al Pacino has been in a Rollercoaster, from big movies in the 70s...... To Jack and a Jill.. To the Irishman.
Intro should've been "it's Sardonicast's 50th podcast spectaCUlarrrr"
Did you know it was possible to get divorced despite not being married? I sure didn't
?
"That final sentence didn't say anything."
Confirmed, QR purges his own mind of all memory moments after hearing anything that isn't fascist friendly.
