    Hi mate. Just thought I'd let you know I much prefer your videos with the commentary than your silent vids. I like hearing your thoughts as you go. Regardless, I've still subscribed to your second channel. Keep it up mate. Love your work.

    I like the handle like that and the knife shape. Good stuff.

    It's cool to see you going over your older recordings and explaining what you'd change! A lot of the content I see in this space shows very refined work, which is great, but which doesn't show often walk through the ways that you've improved your technique over time. It's great for a learner like myself to see the iterations.

      Next week. I ran out of propane mid this week and wasn't able to get some to finish forging my knife until yesterday so I was unfortunately unable to reach my deadline.

    Were they definitely zinc galvanised and not nickel plating? Nickel plated nuts might be cool to use to add an extra layer of contrast between the nuts and steel powder

    • @JPsBladeworks
      @JPsBladeworks  57 хвилин тому

      Yes they are on average zinc coated here.

    New to the channel and love your work! I love that idea of a production chef knife. 🥰

    • @JPsBladeworks
      @JPsBladeworks  Годину тому +1

      That's something I've been wanting to do for a while but I wanted to grow a following first. I want to make a high quality chef knife at a reasonable price for people who want to enjoy a good knife but not pay a ridiculous price. Made here in Florida and not just bulk ordered from China like most buy 1 get 4 free companies on social media these days.

    Maybe this is a dumb question but how do you know what materials are going to be good for making a knife out of? I've seen you do fish hooks and ball bearings and saw blades and all kinds of stuff but do you know ahead of time how hard it's going to get and what it's going to look like in terms of contrast vs. the steel powder?

      He used a high carbon steel core. As long as that is the blade edge you can use anything on the sides. He basically did a canister san mai.

    • @JPsBladeworks
      @JPsBladeworks  Годину тому

      Yup with a high carbon core the outer cladding can be just about anything that works.

    Very cool! JP, How do you like the Central Machinery Buffer? I’ve been wanting to move up from using a bench grinder with a buffing wheel on it, and I was wondering if the lower cost buffer holds up in function?

    • @JPsBladeworks
      @JPsBladeworks  Годину тому

      It works well. I have had no issues with it in the few years I've had it.

    It’s a nice knife if you made it bigger it looks like a competition chopper which btw has to pass many tests which I’m sure you know

    • @JPsBladeworks
      @JPsBladeworks  51 хвилина тому

      Of course. The shape is there but it is far from being able to do what a competition chopper can.

    i believe the forging god require us smiths to nick out fingers on every knife for our blood sacrifice to them lol

      If it don't cut you is it really a knife? Maybe that how they used to get the soul in the sword in Japanese katana back in the day? 🤔

    I was expecting a honeycomb pattern, but I was wrong it ended up being spread out circles

    • @JPsBladeworks
      @JPsBladeworks  50 хвилин тому

      The shape is there but it is super distorted. You can see the corner but they are very rounded over from the stretching.

    I've mentioned this at least once before, but you need to lower the video volume when hammering. It's way too loud.

    • @JPsBladeworks
      @JPsBladeworks  49 хвилин тому

      its already pretty lowered. Any more and that beautiful ding with be gone.
