I've seen an incredibly similar 4 plate door from some random guy called Klemens Torggler who was an arty type I followed for a while. It didn't use the small triangular plates though, it used some weird multi axis pivot in the centre to achieve the same effect. This design using 6 plates and standard hinges and bushings makes an aful lot more sense; it's far less complex to build as no joint moves in more than 1 axis of rotation. Assuming the Warwick guy has a patent for this 6 plate design he was the right guy to ask permission from. IDK though, could have at least mentioned the Torggler door.
This is a great wood project book ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxkPIWb22DigCqxmlXerCyUF4HCl6eSU2L . Most of the projects use the pallet simply as a source of reclaimed wood not as a recognizable pallet so even if you didn't have a pallet you could make these projects with any reclaimed (or even new) wood. The instructions are excellent. The style is charming and would work with lots of different decor. There are quite a number of projects that involve tiling of teh wood pieces which is a really cool idea and can produce beautiful pieces when working with aged wood.
I've seen several of these on YT, some from China. But I have no idea who designed the original. That Torggler guy sounds like a plausible source, but it's nothing I've investigated. Looking at his site it looks like his door, which he calls Triangle, isn't exactly the same design as the one in this video. The 'Triangle' door consists of just four triangles, and it's not obvious from the pictures on the site exactly how the center hinge works. It might be shown on one of the videos but I'm not really that interested.

Mike Honcho dude I feel your pain man. I have gotten my thumb stuck in the space between the door and the doorframe on the hinged side of the door and then someone closed it as hard as they could. Fucking painful. They didn’t realize that I had my thumb in there and just wanted me not to go inside the room.
Had 3 fingers jammed in a metal door with that pressure pump for 7 seconds in school. No one gave a shit as I screamed in pain until my friend and a school nurse helped.
I'm intrigued to know how well this operates from the OTHER side. The side where you can't see the door at all when it's open, and where the handle (if there is one) is absolutely right on the frame when it's closed.
He demoed it from the other side. It really doesnt work very well. He pushes it halfway open, then wiggles his way inside the room before he can open it further.
Think there might be a way two make it convertible were it could work both like either a normal hinged door or a folding door depending whether you push or slide.
I feel as though when the door is opened their should be a magnet on the wall so then it stays in place but if it stays in place when opened we’ll just a suggestion
Hey there, if you use a lav mic the sound is stereo and always on one side. To fix it when you render de video you can set the video to mono and the sound wil be fixed!
Since you've got an X-carve, why didn't you get a sheet of quarter inch polycarbonate or acrylic and mill out the semi-clear shapes from it instead of messing with epoxy? It would have been cheaper and probably also looked better.
This would be perfect for a shed or a closet as is. I don't know why people are complaining that it is a one-way door, plenty of doors are one-way. Great job.
HEADS UP!! (Update, I added subtitles to that section!) Some folks are experiencing audio issues at the 1:50 mark. This is only occurring on some devices, not all. I have no clue why this is happening, but the audio is there for that segment, I promise.
It's not playing sound during the explanation on Motorola phone. Of course it's the most important part explain how it works. I did try turning captions on but it did not put any words on the screen either. The click for the subscribe and Bell are super clear, then the sounds comes back. Odd.
The problem is that one of the audio channels (left or right) have inverted polarity on that segment, causing the audio to be cancelled when summing to mono which some devices do. This is also the reason the audio sounds weird on speakers (and somewhat on headphones) during that part of the video.
I can confirm it's not working for me on Windows 10 in the latest version of Firefox or Chrome, in regular or private browsing modes. Iphone is good though
PIVOT. Serious overkill but very impressive. I don't have the skills nor space to build such thing out of metal but might build one out of plywood for a cabinet door. Thanks for the idea and the shout out to the original inventor, Warwick Turvey, was a nice touch. Shows class.
You had the same reaction I did when you first saw this door being opened and closed, but I loved how you immediately set to making one. And shared all the steps to doing so, including asking permission!
I can just imagine in some action film some guy is gonna start closing this door in slow motion and the main character is just gonna dive straight threw it before it closes
Usually when I see videos on my recommended page fit into one of two categories: high quality videos from very recently, or low quality videos from years ago. Today, UA-cam has surprised me with a high quality video from years ago. Nice content. 👍
Heads up, I had Mono Audio enabled on my device when experiencing the loss of audio. Disabling this fixed the issue and I was able to hear the audio. Turning Mono Audio back on made the issue return, so if people are experiencing this issue, make sure that Mono Audio is disabled on the device. You can do this on Windows just by opening the start menu and searching Mono. For Android, it should be under Accessibility settings within the Settings application and for iOS I can only guess it's under a similar section as with Android. Hope this helps. Edit: I tested this on my Android Phone and it is the same issue with the Mono Audio. I think, based on hearing both audio channels through headphones there's something that messed up that audio. It's hard to describe without saying that it feels like it has a bit of distortion. I think, and I'm no expert, that some of that audio was already made to be Mono and so overlapping Mono settings on top of the Mono audio just messes with the channels and pretty much mutes all the audio besides some artefacts withing the audio..
Also I can still hear all the added in audio (bell rings, basically all SFX sounds added in the editing process) just can't bear his voice. Sounds distorted, really quiet even with my volume all the way up
One of the speakers plays an inverted version of the other one. A mono device will merge both the inverted and normal waveform and cancel eachother out. Kinda how noicecancelling headphones works.
The only thing that I see that is weird for me with that door is that opening up from the other side is weird and it ain't smooth
it could be easily fixed by welding the top or bottom rod, and attaching a motor to it.
Another potential solution would be to incorporate two-way hinges into the design, that way it can be opened inwards and outwards the same way. Naturally, this would require a specialized doorframe, because that wouldn't be easy.

As someone who has slammed his thumb in a door before cool door but I’m keeping my fingers away from that
Mike Honcho dude I feel your pain man. I have gotten my thumb stuck in the space between the door and the doorframe on the hinged side of the door and then someone closed it as hard as they could. Fucking painful. They didn’t realize that I had my thumb in there and just wanted me not to go inside the room.
I’ve gotten my fingers slammed in a van door it was not pretty. My fingernail came off and it was bleeding like crazy
I had to get 6 stitches last summer because they sliced my finger in a door, as my first major injury i was not ready for the pain lol
Daniel J well to be fair all your nerves end in your fingers and toes
Had 3 fingers jammed in a metal door with that pressure pump for 7 seconds in school. No one gave a shit as I screamed in pain until my friend and a school nurse helped.
Best door ever!
Thanks brother!
Larry Byrd damn someone’s upset😂

I think you meant to say " scrap "
Imagine having this in an everyday home. That would be cool
It would but what if your going through and you just get stabbed by two parts of the door saying a guest opened it first
It would but i kind of wouldn’t because you can only open it thru one side
Imagine not being able to lock or close your door from the other side
I feel like of everyone has this in the future it would be normalized, then people would think the "old" way is cooler
You can only open it like that from one side lol
Great novelty door and an impressive piece of artwork. Plus kudos to the designer. 😊

So it would be good for a wardrobe, closet or cabinets?
Yes
@@anthonyd.8067 yeah making it double sided ...
That is the coolest thing I have ever seen. I would love to see what else that ingenious guy has built.
I feel as though when the door is opened their should be a magnet on the wall so then it stays in place but if it stays in place when opened we’ll just a suggestion
true it medal
What magnet can hold such a heavy door effectively lol? Wouldn't it be very bulky then?
Actually, there are magnets that are reasonably sized and could hold it.
Also, you can just hide it on the inside of the wall to hide it.
I’m so confused what this man said
No magnet, its really heavy. Just a soft lock
Hey there, if you use a lav mic the sound is stereo and always on one side. To fix it when you render de video you can set the video to mono and the sound wil be fixed!
Why would you ask this question in a video that is about making an origami door... that’s so irrelevant...
@@angelmarcusaurora 1. It's not a question,
2. It's relevant, someone who's using a mono speaker (me for example) can't hear him talking.

Since you've got an X-carve, why didn't you get a sheet of quarter inch polycarbonate or acrylic and mill out the semi-clear shapes from it instead of messing with epoxy? It would have been cheaper and probably also looked better.
Technical people are so good at stuff
Good point
I bet he wanted to show people that’s all it requires is just some epoxy
Yes.
The epoxy brand was one of the sponsors as well.
This would be perfect for a shed or a closet as is. I don't know why people are complaining that it is a one-way door, plenty of doors are one-way. Great job.

WARNING: At 1:50, some devices are having audio issues, so be aware.
;-; I got it ;-;
Mine does, I'm a oppo ax5
Any idea as to why that is? My Huawei P Smart almost completely cuts out the voice, but not the audio effects/song.
I have an iphone... still happened 🤷♀️
Nah I think it's just the videos audio
HEADS UP!! (Update, I added subtitles to that section!) Some folks are experiencing audio issues at the 1:50 mark. This is only occurring on some devices, not all. I have no clue why this is happening, but the audio is there for that segment, I promise.
thanks man, i thought my airpods where broken.
I only hear the sound on my surround sound speakers at that point - I wonder if it's some weird encoding thing?
I love how the audio dies near the beginning
That happens if your device turns the audio from stereo to mono, since the audio phases are inverted.
An option to fix this was using a headphone or earphones
I can just imagine in some action film some guy is gonna start closing this door in slow motion and the main character is just gonna dive straight threw it before it closes

This sounds like destructive interference. How the _frick_
My mono audio setting was already off and I still have issues. I'm on Android, any other recommendations?
Also I can still hear all the added in audio (bell rings, basically all SFX sounds added in the editing process) just can't bear his voice. Sounds distorted, really quiet even with my volume all the way up
I didn't knew i have mono... what the hell...
One of the speakers plays an inverted version of the other one. A mono device will merge both the inverted and normal waveform and cancel eachother out. Kinda how noicecancelling headphones works.
Pivot... I had to watch all the way through in order to wrap my head around it. A very interesting project!
Phenomenal build bud!
