🎲 Game Rules ♟
In the base rules, each player begins the game with a hand of two cards and two ISK (money). Each player takes one action on their turn:
"Play: Starting with the player to the left of the dealer and going clockwise, players take turns performing one of the available actions:
Income: Take one coin from the bank. This cannot be Challenged or Blocked.
Foreign Aid: Take two coins from the bank. This cannot be Challenged but it can be Blocked by the Duke.
Coup: Costs seven coins. Cause a player to give up an Influence card. Cannot be Challenged or Blocked. If you start your turn with 10+ coins, you must take this action.
Taxes (the Duke): Take three coins from the bank. Can be Challenged.
Assassinate (the Assassin): Costs three coins. Force one player to give up an Influence card of their choice. Can be Challenged. Can be Blocked by the Contessa.
Steal (the Captain): Take two coins from another player. Can be Challenged. Can be Blocked by another Captain or an Ambassador.
Swap Influence (the Ambassador): Draw two Influence cards from the deck, look at them and mix them with your current Influence card(s). Place two cards back in the deck and shuffle the deck. Can be Challenged. Cannot be Blocked.
Blocking: If another player takes an action that can be Blocked, any other player may Block it by claiming to have the proper character on one of their Influence cards. The acting player cannot perform the action and takes no other action this turn.
The acting player MAY choose to Challenge the Blocking player. If they win the Challenge, the action goes through as normal.
Challenge: When the acting player declares their action, any other player may Challenge their right to take the action. They are saying “I don't believe you have the proper character to do that.” The acting player now must prove they have the power to take the action or lose the Challenge. If they have the right character, they reveal it and place the revealed card back in the deck. They then shuffle the deck and draw a new card. The Challenging player has lost the Challenge. If they do NOT have the proper character, they lose the Challenge.
Losing a Challenge: Any player who loses a Challenge must turn one of their Influence cards face up for all to see. If that is their last Influence card, they are out of the game.
Losing Influence: Any time a player loses an Influence card, THEY choose which of their cards to reveal."

@@josephndabu957 I believe you are able to do that, but cards out of the game are suppose to be revealed. And winning challenges like Bart did, that card is suppose to be shuffled in before picking a new card.
Sesshomaru474 I think that over complicates the game. Personally I would prefer to watch them simply say, “I’m so and so card so I’ll do this” whenever they want instead of having to do some challenge beforehand.
A few things.
1. If you get challenged and proven correct, you shuffle that card in before picking a new one.
2. When challenging a card during an assassination if the money has been paid it does not go back to the player.
3. Other players cannot block actions to one player. Example, Tiff steals from Steve, Bart cannot block Tiff stealing. Only Steve can.
4. When an influence card dies, because of assassination, coup or challenge, the player gets to choose which card dies.
5. The player who changes influence with the ambassador, they can grab their cards and then decide to switch 1 or both cards when 2 cards are switched. If only 1 card switch, the player gets to choose between their old card or new one.
Not just that, but from a meta POV, there are 2 counters to an assassination, a challenge and the Contessa; from Steve's reaction, he outed that he did not have a Contessa, so statistically his best move was to challenge Joe's Assassin, because if he claims Contessa he always dies to Joe's challenge (as seen in the video). Either way, if you challenge Joe's Assassin, either he isn't lying and you die anyway, or you make him drop the strongest card at that point in time (with only 1 Contessa on the board) or he's lying, you survive and Joe dies.

i love coup! i actually bought it right after i saw jkp played it on their first video. simple and quick games. however, i think they are still playing some of the rules wrong. i believe if the player that loses one of their influences gets to pick which card they lose. i also think you cant block other people's steals i.e. Steve blocking Tiff's steal from Bart. as ambassador, you pick two cards from the middle and pick which ever card you want to keep, you dont even have to swap.

I dont think Julia moderated this game that well. It made the game feel slow and not as exciting.. Maybe the old way they played was just better, who knows.
I feel like a host is unnecessary for this game. Julia should’ve been a player and too and maybe guide them while they play. Now they have to wait for her consent to do everything. 🤔
I liked the old way of playing. It was way more entertaining and coatic...people made alliances and killed randomly it was fun
Julia can't give out second chances...it ruins the whole game because now no one wants to challenge if they see the other person's reaction is to happily flip the card lol

Joe could've won if he would've took a minute to scan the table. There couldn't possibly be any Dukes left so at most Bart could take 2 coins which would give him 4 but Joe being at 3 would get to 7 faster. The only trick Bart could play is the ambassador card and hope/fake a Duke but he would sacrifice a turn to do so and Joe being at 5 already would only need 2 more turns to pull a Coup. Joe got a little too invested in his assassin role and paid the price at the end. Great game though!
My bad I thought Bart had 2 coins instead of 5.
Bart had 5 coins at least during joes assassination attempt. So even if joe backed off bart would take 2. Joe takes 2. Bart does coup
Even without the assassanation attempt and loss of 3 coins bart wins by literally 1 turn. With joe having 7 as he dies
this isn't true. Bart had 5 coins to Joe's 3. If Joe doesn't assassinate bart that turn he takes two coins it becomes 5. Then bart takes 2 and it becomes 7. Bart has a turn up on Joe.

@@gooney2846 Joe flipping the card isn't the judges fault your right, but it is the judges fault when that same rule isn't applied to everyone else from then on. If your going to allow Joe to do that then you have to keep it that way, or punish Joe by making him pick another card. Also TheMagicalSpork is right and talking about the same thing as the original person. Tiff changed her mind or was allowed to make a different move, causing her to have enough money to kill Josh in the next round. While Nikki wasn't allowed to change her move and so she got out. I'd be salty too I mean I'm trying to win a game and I get out because of a rule that only affected me? Bs.

julia is too nice to be the host. Just an opinion but I feel like she needs to stop asking the players multiple times if they're sure of their choice. What's said has been said and there's no take backs. she's basically giving them a second chance. I know it's not that deep and it's just a game but it would be more entertaining if she could just let go.
Honestly, we just need a different host. Someone who's assertive but fun!

You still played it wrong. Played better, but still wrong
- Abassador move was done wrong. You draw 2 cards and discard 2 cards. You get to pick which one(s) you keep.
- You can only block/challenge attacks done to you.
-If you use an assassin attack, you lose 3 coins. Even if someone blocks or challenges, you still lose those coins.
-When you lose an influence through a challenge, you first shuffle it back into the deck then draw. That allows a chance of getting it back.
- Technically the person who lost an influence gets to pick, that way they can get rid of the one they've already said while having another that no one knows about still.(although I like how you play it)
You played it much better than last time though.

It would be like if they played Mafia and just completely disregarded how its played and made up their own stuff. People who know the game would be upset cause it's done wrong.

@@johnlozier8332 they literally address the fact that they messed up last time and are trying to do better. Also, the rules aren't difficult at all. Literally all the rules to the game are on a single paper, in fact everything is on those cards they have. That card shows exactly how the game is played and how each influence is played. They did much better this time compared to last time and I get wanting house rules and stuff (like whoever kills you picks the influence you lose. I think that's a fun addition) but there are certain things that are rules for a reason. It's to help the strategy of the game.

Nikki does it all the times. It's incredibly obnoxious to watch. She bends the rules whenever she feels like it (suggesting and accusing literally after being killed off in Mafia) but gets asshurt the moment she's on the other end. These games are supposed to be fun with competitive honor like the way Joe and Bart play. Nikki is just a literal child tryharding about being competitive. I liked her when she first got on the show, but Jesus, as a long time viewer she has been getting on my nerves lately.

Thanks for fixing how you play the game. The only things is I'm not sure of in the rules is if the cap/ambass can block stealing from someone else (I thought can only block stealing from the one with the card, not blocking for someone else) and also, if you lose one of your cards, I'm 100% sure you have to pick which of your cards you lose. It's not chosen by the person who kills it. It's part of the strategy in the game.

Yeah, you sorta have to concentrate to follow the game and figure out what everyone is doing. I prefer mafia and the more party game like ones like Psychiatrist, cos I can put it in the background and listen to it while I work, I’m never 100% paying attention when watching UA-cam

My friends and I played it using the original version to get the hang of it, and after watching the coup games, we also took some of these rules (like the opponent gets to choose which influence to kill off)!! Also blocking/contessing for other people is sooo much better than only being able to defend yourself xD all these alliances are so shifty, hehe.. Thanks for all the smiles ^-^

Whenever someone loses an influence, they are supposed to be able to choose which influence the wish to discard (not random). Otherwise, it would be game ending for that player.
