Last night I watched 'Thirteen Lives' for the third time. Only a handful of films throughout my 65 years have I done such. Why? As a Paramedic/Firefighter plus a Rescue Diver (though absolutely NO rescues such as this ~ so, in NO way anywhere close to their caliper and expertise), I watched with gratefulness at the extreme training & competence that is involved! Within our vocations, there is always so much that could go wrong. And the unfortunate reality is that 'wrong' occurs more often than what we would desire. ~~ Trained with skills that most have no clue. Trained to pull off the most amazing of outcomes. So much time involved. Considering hundreds, if not thousands of potential scenarios. But ... there will always be ... a situation that has never been approached. Yet, even in those circumstances ... the years of consideration ~ and of preparation ~ can provide even a possible solution ... that may result in the most excellent of outcomes. So, my hats off to Ben Reymenants and Maksym Polejaka, to Rick Stanton and John Volanthen, Richard Harris, and all that were involved to make such a positive outcome a reality! ~~

It is true that Rick Stanton and John Volanthen were the ones who found the children, but it was Ben Reymenants and Maksym Polejaka, in collaboration with the Thai Navy Seals, who navigated and installed the safety guideline through the most complex sections of the cave after Rick and John had given up on the kids and abandoned the rescue mission.
It was only after Ben brought Rick and John back to the rescue that, through a stroke of luck, the British divers eventually located the children in the cave. This happened because they were laying the safety guideline in rotation with Ben, Maksym, and the Thai Navy Seals.
Rick Stanton did not publicly acknowledge Ben Reymenants and Maksym Polejaka for their crucial role in finding the children until three years after the rescue. And John Volanthen has never given any credit to their invaluable help to this day.
As they say, half the truth is often a great lie.

Finally you share the untold story. The British got all credits, although they are heroes but their ego is a kind of arrogant guys that didn't have courage to mention Ben and Maskym abd keeping telling the same story. They have never mention Ben Reymnants and Maksym Polejaka. In fact, they have never passed the chamber 3 and showed up threes days when Ben, Maksym and the seals have already open the way to the kids. Very sad this thing og ego.😥

@@lilig7469 The British divers (Rick Stanton, John Volanthen and Vernon Unsworth) have also and/or insulted, downplayed, and made false accusations against other rescuers who were absolutely essential to the successful outcome of the operation and showed ZERO appreciation for their crucial contributions.

Absolutely and Raymond as I have seen, in documentaries, movies, interviews, these people have not even mentioned Ben, Maksym and the Seals!!! As everydbody knows, when a group of people decide they are superior to the others, the results are always the same. However, the video Untold story has been called the attention of many people including the "comunity of cave divers". The insults and false accusations only confirm the untold story. I am very grateful to watch the Untold story video as a suggeston of UA-cam.

It was not just a luck of the draw the Brit duo were the ones who located the boys. The dive to chamber 9 was extremely difficult, just ask RAdm Apakorn who suspended any Seal dives to the boys location after only 3 of the 7 divers he sent to chamber 9 made it back to chamber 3. The 3 who returned had to cannibalize all cylinders with air from the 7 in chamber 9 because they all used 3 of 4 cylinders just to make it to chamber 9, and remember they were following the guideline laid by Rick and John. The 4 Seals who remained, including Dr. Bhak were stranded with the boys with no air to dive back. Apakorn stopped any more Seals going to chamber 9 because none could make the round trip using 4 cylinders, any more Seals sent would have added to the people stranded in chamber 9. There is no way the Seals could have path found their way to chamber 9. Rick and John accomplished the pathfinding using 3 cylinders each for the round trip. Ben, Pae, and the Seals consistently underestimated the complexity and difficulty of doing the search. In fact, Ben and Pae had a plan to let the Seals make first contact with the boys for PR purposes, this demonstrates how much they misunderstood the difficulty. Then, RAdm Apakorn, probably influenced by Ben and Pae's views, benched the Brits after they found the boys and said the Seals would take over from then. Again, this shows Apakorn did not know how difficult the dive was and how much skill the Brits had. But, after his Seals went to chamber 9, with only 3 returning, Apakorn realized the Seals did not have the capacity to dive to chamber 9 and return, let alone try to dive the boys out from there. When Saman died on 6 July, Apakorn suspended all Seals from going beyond chamber 3. Now, it had to be the Brits along with Dr. Harris/Challen to accomplish any dive rescue. The search and rescue was anything but luck. It was successful because of the skills (planning and execution) and competence of the 13 divers who extracted the boys and coach from chamber 9 to chamber 3. This was recognized by the King of Thailand who gave each of the 13 divers First Class royal orders, the highest orders given. Ben and Maksym were also honored with 5th Class orders, not as prestigious as 1st class orders.

They are all heroes but There is an untold story. Ben Reymenants (from Belgium) and Maksym Pokejaka (fom Ukraine) were the very first divers to enter in the cave AFTER chamber 3. Both divers tied the ropes up to Chamber 9 very close to Pataya Beach. The British basically "stopped" in the Chamber three and showed up three days later and took over. Ben and Maksym were swept away. However the Thai seals know the truth. " As soon as someone is identified as an unsung hero, he no longer is"

Incorrect. Vern was in the first as well as Navy seals but had to get out quick as it was flooding
