If I didn’t already have the Oasis, I’d get the new Paperwhite because financially it just makes too much sense. However, as an Oasis owner, I love the ergonomics of it too much to exchange that for better battery life on the Paperwhite. I’ve tested out my cousin’s new Paperwhite and I just can’t go back to that. Love my buttons and the handle on the Oasis! (I have a back case on it and keep it in a sleeve so I don’t get “cold” from the aluminum). ETA there’s currently a Black Friday sale that puts the Oasis at basically the same price as the PW Signature, so definitely worth it.
I actually sold my Oasis and got the PW, I couldn't get used to the form factor and aesthetics of the Oasis. Edit: Also why isn't anyone talking about what awesome deal it is to buy the Kindle PW Kids edition....it's the same device only with an included case and 2-year guarantee.
My problem with the Oasis that no one seems to bring up is the placement of the ambient light sensor. It’s between the buttons, so it’s always covered up by holding it defeating the purpose. I found that the 2021 Paperwhite has corrected this issue and the laced the sensor at the top of the device. But the power button is at the bottom of the device making it annoying to read in bed laying the bottom of the Kindle on your chest. Amazon really needs to spend like 15 more minutes baking these devices and they could easily have the end all be all ereader.
I bought my first Kindle a Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition. It came as a set with the Paperwhite, a official cloth Kindle Paperwhite case and a wireless charger. So for I love it! Having a hard time deciding which I like better my Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition or real books. Definitely like the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition better than the Kindle app! It's great to get back into reading again, even if it's in a different format!
Isn't your Oasis battery life less because it is older than the paperwhite which just came out. After months and years of usage the battery life goes down over time on all devices. A fair comparison would be to compare the battery life of both devices purchased at the same time.
Anything with more physical buttons is a plus for me. I wish there was a switch that you could flick it from touch screen on/off. (I know you can do this in settings)
A button to turn the screen on and off would be amazing! I used to speed-read with my finger under the text but you can't do that because obviously, you'll touch the screen. Now I use the tip of a plastic retractable pencil to guide my reading and works really well and doesn't interact with the screen.
In your previous video you said that oasis gives you about two weeks with 1-2 hours of reading. Does that still hold up ? If yes then I’m getting the oasis. Kindly let me know. Thanks
Yes, it does. Battery life will vary but it’ll last longer if you keep the wireless and Bluetooth off. Here’s what Amazon says about it “A single charge lasts up to six (6) weeks, based on a half hour of reading per day with wireless and Bluetooth off and the light setting at 13.” I don’t think it will last that long, so my assessment is more accurate. When you get it, let me know what you think.
@@kindlentech316 Thanks.. not really bothered by what Amazon says- my travel isn't frequent. Even if the Oasis gets me through a full week on one charge and the battery remains like this for another 5 years... I will be happy :) I got my Voyage 4 years ago and it still gives me 2 weeks even today !
It is a constant pain for me how quickly my Oasis uses up battery. I like holding it but the buttons are +/- because the reader can tap with thumb and move forward or the other side with a finger to move back. I do have a cover that has a big rubber band for several fingers and a little stand built in that works great. I'm sure such a cover is available for the Paperwhite. As Jillian says, if I didn't already have the Oasis I would buy a Paperwhite Signature Edition.
I prefer to read without holding the Kindle, which involves laying it on a surface, and the flat form factor of the Paperwhite works much better for this. I also sometimes make use of cases to hold a Kindle rather than holding onto it directly. I like your idea of using something like a mechanical pencil to move along the page while speed reading. One drawback to reading ebooks is that I have to avoid touching the screen until I'm ready to turn the page. Instead of using a mechanical pencil, I have a flashlight in the form of a pen with a stylus at the top. I can use the flashlight tip to run along the page while reading, and I can flip it over to use the stylus to turn the page.
Yes it has !... the wi-fi charging is very slow, while the C charger is really fast...the more LEDs more battery useage. The Oasis has always had faster battery draining issues. The Paperwhite wins hands down, with a much better battery.
With the paperwhite four now available used for around $50 I wonder how well a cheap blue light filtering screen protector would work. The 8gb Oasis is available used for 160 so I would go with that except I dont want to have to think about being careful with it. It seems like rubber and plastic would be a lot less likely to break than a glass screen. Anyway, ill see what black Friday brings.
Hi Andrew. Ya, you can get some good deals on the used market. I'm going to make another post as soon as the Kindles go on sale so keep an eye out for that. Take care.
The Kindle Paperwhite 4 and all other e-readers do not have the blue light of computer, tablet, and phone screens. It's the selling point for an e-reader device. The only thing the Paperwhite 4 will not have is the "warm" light. Having said that, it's still not that cheep (at least, not "new"). The Kindle Paperwhite 4 still retails new for about $90.00 (USD).
I'd been thinking of upgrading from my old gen 3 Kindle (which still works great), since I really wanted one with a light. I also liked the buttons on my gen 3 to turn the pages. I hate smudges on my screen and with a touch screen, it's impossible to avoid (I keep a lens cloth in my phone case for that reason). That said, if I'd bought one it would have been a last gen Paperwhite. The Oasis was just too pricey to consider. Fortunately a good friend had ended up with two Oasis models and sent me one as a gift. It's last gen which as far as I know just means it doesn't have a light warmth adjustment which I wouldn't have used anyway.
isn't the oasis meant to be used with a battery case? i saw that in another video that mentioned this. with the case, the battery life is closer to what you'd expect from an e reader
I have the oasis version before the warm light. Do you think it is worth it to now go for the new ppw? Mine has 3g and if I don’t turn that off it uses a lot of energy.
Hi John. The new PW does have an amazing battery and the same screen as the Oasis. But no buttons. I still like the Oasis, but it’s not nearly as good of a value as it was before. So if you don’t mind losing the buttons then definitely get the PW.
@@kindlentech316 thanks for the reply. I have ordered the signature edition today. It will arrive in January. My oasis will find a new home soon. I will donate it to a good friend of mine.

I love the Oasis. You won’t go wrong with it. Battery life isn’t great so if you read a lot, you’ll have to charge it once a week. Wait for the Oasis to go on sale 😁
I love the Oasis buttons, but the battery life was awful. I gave back my Oasis after one year of batter problems and bought the Paperwhite. Quite uncomfortable to hold for me after the Oasis experience, but really good except that.
There on sale right now and an extra 25 bucks if you have kindle unlimited. I bought both to test and return the one I decide not to keep but I can’t decide which to return!! 😂

Use them both for a week or two then send one back. (Just make sure you sign out and reset the device beforehand.) I’ve used different Kindles for months and I always find myself going to the Oasis first. But other readers love the PW. Battery life is much better on the PW, but the form factor on the Oasis, to me, is far superior.
@@kindlentech316 Thanks Eric! I love your reviews. I just wanted to be sure I didn't miss a newer Kindle Oasis model. I will give the PWSE a try when it arrives. I'm hoping a newer Kindle Oasis with USB TYPE-C, a 7.8" screen and possibly color, 🤞🏾, comes out next year. Anyway, great job!!!
