Kindle Scribe Review - 6 Months Later
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 чер 2024
- Long-term review of the the Kindle Scribe, Amazon's first ever e-ink tablet with a 10.2 inch display that you can write on. We'll take you through the major software updates the device has received since launch that most reviews won't have covered. Plus, we'll take you through whether its worth getting as a note taking device, what the reading experience is like on a larger tablet.
We'll also discuss why you would go for a Kindle Scribe over an iPad or Android e-ink tablet, how it's price compares to the Remarkable 2, how this Kindle performs against something like the Kindle Paperwhite and Onyx Boox, the downsides we've encountered with the device and who we recommend it for.

03:43 "pountain fen" 🙂 Trying to decide if I need one of these, and this video was extremely helpful!
You are sharp
Also the way he said sub-SEEquent got me shook 😭
Came here to call it out as well 😂😂
We have all been there, still funny!
I honestly don’t know why your channel doesn’t have at least 500k subscriptions. Your content is short, simple and very informative. Keep it up!
Thank you and glad you enjoy our content. Hopefully we’ll get there one day!
Suck up 😂
@@6MonthsLaterthe pountain fen 😂 3:43
I just realized how small his viewer base is... Thought it's way higher... Such a shame
Because his videos are ten minute ads
So glad I saw your video, got it for my daughter as a school book and notebook replacement. It may not have android, but as a note taking device it is truly awesome. Love the turn on speed, love the low lag, and the great price. Many thanks for your review. Great for any student going to school, and wanting to replace all of their notebooks.
@ead601 Just wondering how it’s held up for her? Also was it used for high school or college? 😊
These devices get more tempting as the years go by... the future of e-ink will be glorious
Amazon must be smoking Crack to sell this kindle for 300+ dollars. You can buy an IPad thar does WAY MORE than a Kindle for the same price. It should cost at least $150 minimum
@@Aj-me8mo iPad also is part of the "attention economy". Aka it has distractions.
You are obviously, a very good teacher, and I like your actual and practical functionality 😊 straight forward systems and teachings are not sew easy,to come by😊
Great video and review! I laughed when you said “pountain fen” at 3:48. 😅
You did a great job laying out all the features for us!! Well done.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great review! We all make verbal slips.
"Pountain fen" made me giggle 😅
amazing video...I was quite in doubt between this and the Remarkable 2. You solved my doubts! Thank mate for the great job!
So did you get the Scribe or the Remarkable 2 after all?
@😮😊😊😊9😅😊😅😊😊😅😊😊9AJAZZist
I am in awe at the details of this guy’s review. Great job! After watching this u would feel like buying the product
3:44 pountain fen. That has made my day, haha. Great review as well, made my decision to get one. Thank you.
Make the shortcut button your eraser :) It's even faster than flipping it over. Never turned back!
Perhaps my only purchase that gave me more than I expected. I knew I could back Amazon to do it right.
Excellent stuff. Simple and well made with some great b-roll! You’ve got a great relaxing tone which happily made me watch all this very informative video. You smashed it 😊
(As a fellow, and relatively new, UA-camr you’ve given me some food for thought when making vids.)
Wow, I love how writing sounds on it. Putting this device on my wishlist. 😁
My galaxy tab s8 has those writing sounds, I love it
Better get an iPad with a paperlike screen protector, you get the same writing feel but with endless more capabilities. I think the price for this is really too much for what it offers. Bein its basically just a kindle for only reading, with added note taking application, but nothing else. If you could do more with it than just creating a new note and write something down then ok. But 300$ extra just for pen an note is too much.
I write a lot! I have multiple notebooks for different subjects and before it gets too out of hand, I’ll buy the latest version of the premium scribe as a Christmas gift for myself. I’ll have it just for writing only and import backups to my apple notes.
What a fantastic and thorough review! Really appreciate it! :) -g
Thankyou for such a great review
Excellent review. Thank you
Can't thank you enough for this excellent review.
It is quite promising how the Kindle versions develop. Still decided to go with a new Paperwhite signature edition as replacement of my old kindle. The Scribe can certainly be nice, if you really use the features and - for many - if it finally gets a handwriting to text function. And if you can live with the weight. I guess it might annoy me. But for others like me who will not make much use of the functions it is too pricey. I just want to read, I hope that when the new Paperwhite turns old in a few years there will be an updated version of the Oasis.
I really want an upgraded version of the Oasis as well. I kind of miss my page turn buttons when using the Paperwhite SE
Just received my kindle scribe today ,I'm absolutely blown away by the clarity hi resolution screen , I last had a onyx boox note 10.3 5 years ago , I lost it , ( hope to find it and sell it ) this and note 10.3 is like night and day!
Can you navigate on browser on this device? As in, literally browse the internet, go to a web page and read
amazing video well put together thank you 🙏🏽
Great review
Thanks
Thank you for sharing your experience. I've read multiple reviews about the fabric folio fraying after a short while but yours still looks brand new. Have you been traveling with the folio or just kept it at home?
Just kept it at home, so that may be while it still looks good.
3:44 The Pountan Fen? ;)
Anyway! Good review. I've been dancing between this or the reMarkable, but the prices always get to me
Brilliant review - please maintain your objectiveness - your reviews are one of the few that I’ve came across that don’t feel driven (sponsored) by some sort of corporate entity
The pountain fen lol. cool review btw, thanks for the vid
Brother your channel is a gift
Thank you
It would be interesting if the device had a speech to text , and a read aloud feature as well.
It does have that feature! I forgot to mention that in the review. You can learn more about it here: www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201829850#:~:text=While%20reading%2C%20tap%20the%20center,hear%20the%20text%20read%20aloud.
@@6MonthsLater - I'm guessing he meant exactly what he said: Speech to Text. This would allow you to dictate notes by voice. Like you can do with text messages on modern phones.
awesome video for the scribe rookies like me. at 3:44 you said “pountain fen” and had to relisten because i thought i was having a stroke.
Amazing review great great thank you
I'm considering getting this for my school notes (to replace my notebooks). My question is, how many pages can one document have? Can I use the kindle to replace notebooks in each subject? (I'll have three this semester upcoming)
Great Review
thanks trying to figure out if i should get this because it’s on sale for prime day
Are you able to download textbooks? Does it do well with it?
Thank you so much for the video. I have iPad but glossy screen and reading does not work well for me. I was unsure whether take Kindle Scribe or Onyx Tab but it seems for me Kindle will be better as I want to read books during commute and take notes from time to time.
I woudl recommend just getting a perlite screen protector. Then you have the paper non gloss look, plus the paper feel exactly like this. All the benefits of both worlds in one. For the price of over 400$ this kindle is overprices for what it actually offers.
Fantastic video
Great review thanks. Anyone here got both the scribe and remarkable 2? Just wondering if you do which you prefer?
Pountain Fen? (3:44) Other than click-baitey spoonerisms and the distractingly odd way you write the letter e this was an excellent video. Informative, no fluff, great match of video to script.
I'm planning on using mine for daily reading & note taking during grad school, is 32GB enough?
I have one and like it, but it is rather expensive for most. I despise the Amazon covers for Kindles and would like more choices in cases, preferably something hard with a kickstand.
You think this is expensive the alternatives are even more so. reMarkable and Boox devices can easily top £500 or more.
@@andrewmontague9682 Concur. I really only use my Scribes for reading and don't require the additional capabilities that the others offer.
This is my friend's second Kindle. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxOnUR4NaproSbBbD2sdI4XcDZ58Jz8GOx The first one which is about 5 or 6 years old quit charging because the bottom connector went bad. When I saw they upgraded to a USB C connector I knew it was time. I think the old USB Micro connectors are a PIA. Her new one is great. It synced right out of the box and connected to WiFi immediately. The thing is perfect! Sooo mine will arrive tomorrow. (Been reading off an old Fire) What bugs me are the reviewers that give this product one star because it didn't work out of the box or they were too dumb to figure it out. If it doesn't work send it back and get another one. It couldn't be easier with Amazon. Giving it one star because it didn't work says nothing about a good one that does work. I bet a bad one is one in a thousand or more. Give it a break...just get another one.
Thanks Much !.......good stuff.
What would make me def. Buy this is if it had live notes/whiteboard feature for meetings! Then it would be perfect!
You can email a PDF. You might be able to work with that but it would be a bit of work.
@6MonthsLater I appreciate your informative review, thank you. I'm currently searching for a device that allows me to read PDFs and take notes on them, while also being able to store them on a cloud-based platform like OneDrive or Google Drive. My main reason for wanting an e-ink tablet is to protect my eyes. I don't find Scribe Cloud as useful as OneDrive or Google Drive. So, what do you suggest for me?
Try an e-ink Android tablet from a brand like Onyx or maybe look at those made by Remarkable or Kobo to see if they can backup to OneDrive or Google Drive. I’m not as familiar with non-Kindle ones but it’s a category we’re looking to get more into later this year as new models come out - Josh.
Got a question! If you rotate horizontally to write notes, when you rotate back to vertical to read them. Does the screen/notes go all wacky or no change?, What I mean, do they get fixed and can't rotate
When writting notes, I prefer more horizontal space, but when I want to read my notes in another ocasion, I prefer to hold the kindle in a vertical position
The only rotation is 180 degrees for if you hold it upside down. There's no portrait-to-landscape option.
pountain fen 3:43
Exceptional video, solidified my desire for one of these.
I have, and still use, the Kindle Touch with text to speech. When Amazon removed text to speech from Kindle, they lost a customer. Reading some of the comments, I saw that this Kindle does have text to speech, but, for me, the features do not justify the price.
You can do text to speech on the paperwhite. You need a bluetooth speaker and it's in the accessibility settings.
Highly informative. Thankyou much. ))
Do you think that a 7.8 inch scribe would be even better? It seems awesome, but the size is a limiting factor for me in the reading department since I read mostly in bed with one hand I think would be taxing after a while!
That’s where I’d point you to a Kindle Paperwhite. Perhaps they’ll enable the ability to write on the smaller sized Kindle at some point.
no, but a 12.9 inches color one would be perfect
A 7.8-inch Paperwhite would be ideal for me.
Yes. It gets a little uncomfortable after a while with one-handed reading.
Nice review, thank you! 6:10 - markings are not synced to kindle library, but what about regular text highlights and notes? I use android phone and iPad, and highlights/notes are perfectly synced. Will that work for Scribe too?
I believe yes.
3:45 "Pountain Fen" lol love it, i do it all the time
Did he say Pountain Fen at 3.45?
Just made me chuckle :)
Love this but I'm more amused you write your 'e' that way. You also said "pountain fen" at 3:43. Haha, cool!
Sounds like this thing has incredible battery life. I am sorely tempted to buy.
they are on sale right now !!
@@kennameyers2182 They are on sale quite a lot I noticed. I wonder if Amazon is having trouble selling them.
3-4 months on a sigle charge? I have one and I have no idea how you could do that, maybe switching on everything?
Thank you for the video. The one thing I wonder about is the extra weight over the Kindle paper white. 95% of my use would be reading.
I usually read in bed, holding the device with one hand. The scribe is indeed a bit heavy after a while and I've switched back to the paperwhite. I would say the scribe was the superior reading experience but the weight is just a touch too much.
My favorite part of this video is seeing someone with similar hand writing as me to use the product. My hand writing SUCKS and it was horrible on an ipad mini I use to own. I got rid of that tablet a while again and have had my eyes on the scribe for a bit. I love the iPad but wanting a focused reading and note taking device and the scribe hits it. Think I may order it now
As a reading device it lacks the ability to remove books from the home page to the library where the collections are. Organizing your books is important so the home page isn't being cluttered with new books you have purchased or books you have read but don't need them on the home page any longer. The Kindle App on the iPhone, iPad, and Fire have the capability to remove the books back to the library and into collections. Amazon software writers please help the reader have the control for a more pleasant reading experience.
The writing pen does not work right. Major problems. I can not believe they are shipping it with these problems. I'm returning the one I bought. What a circus.
@@snoolee7950what are the problems? Please describe this circus?
@@pithygrapefruit The pen writes when it is not touching the tablet. so it looks like watercolors from a 3 year old. there is no stop to the writing. totally unusable. someone said the stylus (pen) from a Samsung? phone pen works, but I am not going to chase it. Amazon needs to fix it. Shocking. I was really surprised.
Bro, your handwriting.........
bro.. your network...
i like it lowkey
…is better than my handwriting! Thinking about the Scribe to work on my penmanship.
This looks Necessary Josh 😀.
Thanks 😊.

Can you dictate on this device? Like audio message that converts into the text?
does it have a issue with displaying a pdf magazine?
do you know if you put the pen on top of the black strip the non screen part it will turn it off and as soon as you grab the pen off it, it will turn it back on to continue writing.
I've just ordered a Kindle Scribe 64GB with premium pen today. I use a lot of notepads so thought i would try digital. Lets see how it goes
How’s your experience been versus your experience with using notepads? Any issues with the premium pen?
@@MrSDCali o didn’t end up using it as i returned it to Amazon unopened. In sticking with notepads. I’ll need 400 notebooks to break even so didn’t seen value to me
Wait - does the eraser tool actually erase the background when taking notes? If so, that's not cool - I would only want it to erase the text and leave the background lines there.
It does have a web browser, so can't we just read the article on it rather than paying for the push to kindle app? Just curious. Haven't purchased it yet. Planning to do so soon.
I've had so many Kindles, I don't own any of them now. All had feeling of "something lacking" and tries too hard to "sell you something" through connecting to Amazon Cloud everytime you tried to do something. On the other hand, I enjoy reading using Kobo though it's not as quick and responsive as the Kindle. Everyone is different so this might work for most people while I enjoy reading mostly but need the large screen to read PDFs with backlighting. Comfort lighting is a big plus that makes you feel like you're actually reading a paper book. Just my two cents.
Is it any different for you to use it being a lefty? I see the space to hold it is on the right side.
It can be held either way up and rotates appropriately.
I'm from India and I've been wanting this for a long time. They have not launched it here 😢
Can you use you mobile hotspot??? For the Wi-Fi stuff how dependent on Wi-Fi is it ?
I've had this device for 2 weeks now. It is missing some basic settings like how long to wait before going to standby, or how to enlarge system fonts. The blacks are not really black but grey and when you read a PDF is it painfully visible. The default contrast is not as good as it was on my previous kindle which is a very old model. I wanted it to read PDF files and I find the process tedious. The two finger enlargement actually is hard to control. The text goes to very big very fast. About the notes. Did you notice the author keeping his hand above the surface while writing? That is because if you have more than one page, it tends to go backwards to the previous page if you rest your palm on it. The writing experience is great really the feeling of it and the speed of the marker. But overall for me this device is too expensive for what it can offer. Look at the details when you decide.
Exactly my thoughts too.. wonder if there is any other device or solution where we can rest the palm while writing? Else its not worth for me to write so awkwardly
@@bhushankaduful It may not be an acceptable solution but many drawing pad users wear a two-finger glove.
Hi I just need to replace my Macbook due to eye strain. Are there any E-INK tabs or computers that are acceptable for internet browsing, emails, etc.?
Cool review thanks but…at 3:43 is pountain fen a real thing?
Does it support to writing notes directly on Epub files?
I stopped watching around 6:00 cause I’m sold. Gonna but it! Thanks for the great video 👍
Hello! Can you upload files from outside the Kindle (ePub, txt, word docs)? I don't want from example to buy a book from Amazon, I already have it on my laptop...can I export it on Kindle Scribe?
How does this verse against the Kobo scribe or the supernote?
I am an online Math tutor. Can the Scribe be linked with a Surface Pro so I don't have to write on the screen of the Surface?
My only question would be can you support your hand on the display? From what I've seen he holds his hand above it while he writes but I don't really find that comfortable so does anyone know?
It does have palm rejection and it’s works relatively well for me - Josh
I use psychology books which contain questionnaire and tables to fill in, I now understand that kindle scribe doesn't allow to do that. Thank you for your help
It's not really a like for like comparison as the devices are designed for slightly different audiences, but how would you say this compares to the Remarkable 2?
i think kindle is a better investment. It has the best capacity to dominate the industry
@@ch3ckm8 I bought one and I have mixed feelings about it. It seems for 5 months now there are no meaningful updates. We are still missing so much:
1. Can't see your annotations on other devices (including kindle ones)
2. Can't duplicate/move/delete pages in PDFs or between notebooks
3. Can't change templates between pages (really frustrating!)
4. No quick access drawer for favourite or recent notebooks
5. No tagging support and very limited searching / filtering options
6. Can't move PDF notebooks under Notebooks, they show up under Library/Books only, why Amazon!
7. Can't rotate selection with the lasso tool or draw straight lines
8. Can't keep current page on the screen indefinitely, it goes to its own screensaver
9. No conveniences like tap with 2/3 fingers to undo/redo
10. Can't create links between pages/notebooks
Etc, etc - the hardware is great but the software feels half baked still. It has really improved earlier on but seems Amazon is now neglecting this device :(
Pick a tablet like iPad Mini over Kindle Device, it doesn't support half of kindle book formats but the kindle app on iPad does.
how easy or hard is it to export PDF with written notes?
what other e-ink reader would be good for taking notes in pdf?
does the written word-to-text function when the device is in airplane mode?
How did you get the pen to make sound when writing? Mine does not
can you still write on the surface if your hand touches the screen? In other words, can I rest my hand on the screen while writing?
Yes.
Yes, definitely and it has the best writing experience of any tablet I tried so far.
Calibre to push files to Kindle is great.
For a very large device just for reading (needing large text) any suggestions?
I'd love to know why I can't re-share the annotated, written pdf to my own email!
Hi, I would like to buy this with pen because English is my second language so I would like to circle around some words that I do not know and write my own language next to the words on the novel book, that possible? After write the meaning of the words in my language, when I turn on the same page, can I see my own language next to the English vocab? Your reply will be appreciated.
Can you connect a keyboard to it? It would be a great write with.
Man this tablet has so many features but the screen/software combo just lags everything behind. I hope the Scribe gets cheaper
I imagine it’ll have a big Black Friday push this year. - Josh
It’s 30% off right now as a bundle with the charger and case!
@@Rigny_la_Bellejust bought one
Thats it, im buying it. For someone who wants to avoid buying more papers, this is the perfect solution
Did you buy it?
I have 3 note devices: Scribe, KOBO Elipsa and the BOOX Note Air 2 Plus And BOOX wins in the note and drawing area. Tons of menu options for drawing and writing and a ton of templates BUT the scribe has the smoothest most enjoyable experience
Have the Kobo Sage and have to say that one is very good. Sizewise is perfect.
Why do you have 3 note taking devices? That’s a lot of dough.
@@Nightsinwhitesatin645 Because each one provides a different user experience I'd imagine(: Kindles all serve the same purpose but I find myself liking to switch between various models. I like throwing an older, cheap kindle in my book bag for school, and I like reading on my oasis at night as it's a little bulkier and has warm light. I also have a paperwhite that I find fills in the gap sometimes.
@@Begonepeasanthow to say your are rich without saying it😂
Can this, or any other e-writer, handles lists so that I can easy remove done items, change the order priority of items in a list etc. It would also be nice to have notes on a list item that are hidden until the list item is selected. I currently use a supernote and like it in general but I spend my life making lists and lists are just handles like any other text which really isn't very useful to me. I've had a paperwhite for years and love it when it comes to reading - the waterproofing is particularly useful for when reading in the bath!
Is the screen only black and white? And if I'm going to make notes, markings in books, etc., won't I be able to highlight any words with red, yellow...?
This tablet might work for me if it has a USB-C port for a physical keyboard or headphones, or both with a hub.
It would be interesting to see if that works. I heard on the paperwhites they were supposed to have usb audio but I didn't get that working.
