In this video, I have some news to share with my faithful viewers. I recently found this old farmhouse table. I first attempted to remove the 3 layers of paint. My plan was to sand this table and refinish it. I soon realized it was necessary to completely disassemble this entire piece, and slowly rebuild it. I hope you enjoy watching the process. As always, thank you for your support. Barry

I know that creators like yourself have the right to keep their lives private, but thank you for sharing that you are in a relationship. I’ve always thought you have the biggest heart and deserve all the happiness. I love that someone can share your life and enjoy your creativity. Lucky person!

The thing I love about this little table, is that it comes from a time when nothing was wasted. It was cobbled together with different woods to serve someone’s purpose. I bet it was well used and hard wearing. Probably well loved too and appreciated. We have become such a wasteful society that it’s shameful what we throw away. I love that you have sympathetically restored this little treasure to live again, and I bet the original creator will be delighted with the result. xx

My husband will dig things out of the dumpsters in our community often, but he rarely keeps them. He takes them to one of the local thrift stores. It's awful how much furniture and functional bicycles get thrown away.

That walnut was a beautiful unexpected surprise. I could almost feel this sad little table sighing with relief, very nicely done. I think I would have filled the holes without trying to disguise them, more because they're dirt-catchers if not, but it's nice to see the "history" of the piece left intact when much of it wasn't... intact that is. I'm not at all surprised that this little homemade table is composed mostly of walnut! So much of my furniture is this type -- made by someone in the family with very little finesse, from trees that grow wild in Southwest Virginia, often mixing wood types. I'm so glad you were able to use most of the original wood and let it carry its history into the future.
The landscape at 0:25 looks like home, to me.

I’d love to have a piece like this in my home, nail holes and all. Just looking at it at first, green glory notwithstanding, I had a sudden strong sense that this little table had a long interesting story. I wished I could have reached out and touched it and connected. You did a masterful job making it a solid addition to a home again, a place to showcase a favoured plant or display a special book or photo. Thank you Barry for the respect you show for the work of earlier woodworkers and the beautiful wood.

My apologies for this rant. I thoroughly enjoy watching you restore and refinish the pieces you do.

What license did you have? I had a CNA license. I'm disabled now and I'm going to start refinishing/repairing small pieces for something to do. I live on a remote island in Southeast Alaska so most of my supplies are from Amazon and eBay. We have two hardware stores but they don't have a lot to choose from and many supplies they don't have period. I have a a few projects that I have on hand to get started. One is enigmatic. It's old, has four drawers with two little drawers on the top. The backer, the drawers, the car case are all about 1/4" and all have a rough side. It was clearly hand made but in contrast to the rough sawn wood it has what appears to be a turning 5 1/2 of six. I plan to glue another piece on and place a whole one next to it, and take it down with my chisels. I plan to paint it with a stone gray with gold striping. I have a large MDF entertainment center with some solid wood that I'm going to disassemble for materials and make some dividers for the drawers for my supplies. 5:05

Thank you Barry, for saving this poor, old, hall-table, which, if you hadn’t, would be firewood in anyone else’s hands. Trash to treasure yet again! It’s nice that you found somewhere to work comfortably and suitably equipped as you follow your heart. Now two cities have the benefit of your woodworking abilities! I have been quite a few places overseas, but only Norway, Oslo to be exact, that you showed today. My favourite places ever, were Chesky Crumlov in the Czech Republic and St Wolfgang in Austria. Two very pretty and interesting tiny towns to visit and relax in. It’s good to see you doing more on You Tube again!❤️😊🦘🇦🇺

We have a table that is been in my family since well before I was born. It needs a refinish. Just some tlc. The wood is in great shape still but the finish needs love especially on the top.

Oh MY! What an amazing outcome to this piece! You always do such a lovely job of restoring or refinishing pieces to their former glory and at times beyond what it was originally. On a side note, it’s interesting to me that there are so many of us former hospital or healthcare (HC) folks drawn to repairing, restoring and redesigning furniture. Maybe the reason is we are tactile practitioners in HC, refinishing furniture is too. We are drawn to fixing or repairing people and that transfers so well to furniture again. I spent 45+ years at the bedside and in administration implementing the HC IT solution based in Madison. Love that city and the countryside beyond. Anyway I so enjoy your videos and so glad you were able to find a new profession you are passionate about.

Wow, Barry. You really made a silk purse out of a sow's ear on this one. Absolutely stunning and hard to believe the "after" is the same table you started with.

What a productive salvage/restoration! It is a great size, and for what it's being asked to do, it has excellent utility. Thanks for answering the question about the new shop. What a boon to have access to new-to-you equipment! Also excited to hear you have a special someone.

Being born and raised in the mountains of Virginia, I am quite partial to my state. Even though you are only here part-time, let me welcome you to our family as you have welcomed us to yours through your channel! Virginia is a wonderful place for history, furniture, and love! Glad you you found all 3 here! Beautiful job on the table. Can't wait to see the next project!
