Looks like I’m in the minority here, as I thought that it was a relatively well-done Barbie-themed makeover. I’ve seen a lot worse! 😂 I am sure that whatever little girl had that dresser enjoyed it a great deal. Someone else might have enjoyed it in that condition for a while yet, given the Barbie-mania this summer! Still, as always you did a lovely job restoring it to its natural wood condition. Especially all those painted grooves! I would have given up in despair for sure. No need to apologize for the cricket sounds. It’s actually lovely to think you have that nature there while you work. It underscores how peaceful the work can be. Thanks for sharing, as always.
Dear Barry! You are so loved my man! Your honesty, integrity and humility are a true testament to your genuine humanity. We are so blessed that you share yourself and your work with us! Thanks, George from Florida
I think that the reason these older wood dressers and chests are not in demand is because they are usually in shabby, fixer upper, worn out condition. Most people do not want to do the work to bring them back and, unfortunately, the hours put into fixing them does not yield enough profit. So it has to be a labor of love for whomever decides to make them beautiful again.
Beautifully done! It looks like the dresser is breathing a sigh of relief. It has an understated elegance that would fit into any decor. Enjoyed the process 👍
A mug of coffee, a bar of my favourite chocolate and an episode of Mad City Modern. What more could you ask for? Another awesome video Barry. Thank you. 🙏🙏🙏
The before is so so beautiful! They did a great job painting it. Sad to see it go but still beautiful! Great job! I just really dislike how people are calling it ugly. It’s not, lots of people would like the before as well.
Barry, as usual, a phenomenal job restoring this dresser! You changed a ruin into a masterpiece! I've no idea where, or to whom, you plan to donate it, but that piece would work fabulously in a foyer to store sweaters, coats, gloves, etc. and the mirror to "check yourself out" before leaving, in a dining room as a buffet, or, as it was originally meant, in a bedroom. Astounding transformation! You've given it back its pride!
Barry, words can’t express how much I enjoyed this restoration. Yes I found the Barbie👍 and I loved the cricket noise! I found it hilarious that just over a year ago I actually watched a man “restore” a dresser using nearly the exact same colours including the Barbie motif! (I wonder if it was the same piece)?🤔😂 Anyway, I am especially fond of your calm narration and exquisite editing. I live for the close ups and you never disappoint. Thank you once again for sharing your passion with us all .
I notice you have a lot of vintage/retro items in your workshop: typewriter, cassette player/tuner, analog tv/VCR combo, double cassette boom box player; these items for me brings back so many memories!
Amazing job Barry...you gave this piece of furniture back it's dignity...I don't think anyone should ever paint mahogany..soothing music and your calming voice made a video to watch so enjoyably...thank you again sir
I think I saw Barbie reflected in the mirror from the wall with the posters. You did the best you could and it looks great. I think it’s a great neutral brown suitable for most homes. I wouldn’t have ever looked at the Barbie dresser and said, now I want that for my kid. 😮 But now i see something I would definitely want for my home! 😊
Oh Barry, that first pass of taking pink paint gave me chills! Great job! Again, your attention to detail puts you way above. This educational piece, as you called it, can sell!
You might know all the imperfections that are still on the piece, but I think it turned out beautiful. I would definitely display this piece in my house. I would use it for linens.
Barry you’re back! I was so excited to see a new posting. I have watched and rewatched every post I can find of yours. I’ve always loved vintage and antique pieces. Every day an old piece of furniture or a lamp or tool gets restored is a great day. Thank you for making so many great days. 😊
Barry, don’t apologize so much. I did it my entire life and it undermined me. Not just at work but in life. It’s a desire for unobtainable perfection. Sorry to lecture but you do too good of work. Plus you share your knowledge. I especially love the history pieces. If they restored shop pieces like this could be done by students and either kept or donated. 22:57
Oh my goodness, Barry. She’s a beauty! Your vision for a piece and skill set has really expanded. You’re so humble…one of the reasons I subscribed- so like-able and honest. Your patience with the work some these pieces take in amazing. I’m a forever fan.
Sometimes you are too hard on yourself like in this piece. It turned out beautifully and I'm sure anyone of your viewers would be proud to own it. Glad to have you back and hope to be seeing that green dresser soon. Beat wishes to you Barry.
Sometimes I can’t believe how much work you’re willing to put into a project. You also put a lot of work into your filming, I can tell. Thank you for all that! I saw Barbie in the mirror reflection when you were stripping it.
If I saw this in an antique shop, it would be coming home with me. For the challenges you were faced with, this looks beautiful! Came accross your channel while looking for furniture DIY inspo and was pleased to find it. Not sure what is more interesting, you or the pieces you are restoring!
I actually appreciate both the Barbie dresser and the restoration, the restoration is gorgeous look back to the original. However the Barbie dresser was clearly crafted with meticulousness and attention to detail, and was probably a piece that was actually commissioned rather than trying to just some amateur repaint a piece of furniture to fit a room.
Barry, this dresser turned out beautifully. I tend to like a satin finish on most all wood furniture, just a personal choice. I tend to think with a hint of shine to the finish, it brings out more of the beauty of the wood grain. Well done!
Nice job! Came from a family of Master Carpenters and cabinet makers, antique furniture refinishers, artists and decorators and at 72 have done my share of finding jewels on the side of the road and refinishing them so I appreciate the work you put in. Kudos!!
For me there can be a place for painting furniture. I know some that the materials its made from mean a restoration is not feasible but if a bit of paint means it lives on away from the dump (landfill) then that is a better option. For those like this that can be restored with a bit of imagination and skill then heck no leave the paint in the tin. Looked amazing once you had finished it. I would also say that for awhile that Barbie style made a little girl very happy I am sure so while not something I would do maybe the person that did that did not have the skill needed and this was something within their scope. Never judge someone's work without knowing the reason behind it.
I think the Barbie makeover was appropriate for the time period in which it was made over, where wood was considered extremely boring. Just as I think now it's appropriate to get it off and let the mahogany glow through!
It always amazes me how much personality you can see in some pieces just by removing the paint. I mean the paint job was actually pretty good, but the natural wood just makes this piece so much more special to me. I've been watching these restorations and woodworking videos for a while now, and it's always incredible to see the beautiful wood color coming out from underneath all that paint. I like painted pieces as well, it just depends on the piece and the condition. You sir did an amazing job here, I love the final product and I'm loving your channel. Keep up the great work, and best wishes from Brazil!
I think the grey wash stain brought out the age of the piece without making it look tired or making it look too modern. In other words, I think it was a perfect choice here. (super thumbs=up)
Barry, you did amazing on that piece of total chaos. I think it looks beautiful, and I think anyone would be proud to have it in their home, I know I would. Thanks for your attention to detail and your patience along with your wonderful talent.
Hey Barry, so glad you are BACK!! You have been missed and this was another great episode. The end result is very beautiful, elegant and understated. I love the cricket sounds in the background. Hi from Toronto!
Your voice is so soothing. I actually use your videos to help me sleep if you made a series of videos reading random things, I'd play them every night.
It's a lovely piece that would look great in a child's bedroom in a farmhouse, where people appreciate wood but don't want to spend too much when the child is still young and liable to be a little rough on the piece. You've done a beautiful job.
You leaned in a little more modern than usual with the gray tone finish, Barry, and it turned out beautifully! I liked your technique of using a chisel to pry against when removing the staples from the back of the mirror. Those little tips and tricks are the kinds of things that you learn from a grandparent or parent, seem so obvious and you can't believe you didn't see it before.
It's so pleasing to watch you work on these pieces. Your voice is calming to listen to as I learn from you. I always learn something. I was surprised to find the Barbie in this video. I'm usually so focused on what you are doing I miss those things.😅 Thanks again.
I love the way it turned out! Remember to always rinse off the oxolic acid… when it is dried if it gets into the air it can really damage your throat and lungs!
Barry, you are the best! My parents had this same style of Hepplewhite furniture in their bedroom, and it’s awesome to see someone who appreciates the beautiful mahogany grain and all-wood construction details, such as the dovetailed drawers. Thanks for bringing this piece back to its former glory!
The piece started out as a nightmare piece, and you turned it into a very respectable dresser. Not many people would have worked that hard to right the wrongs done to that piece! Well done!
Hi Barry. I think that piece turned out beautiful. It was a lot of work removing all that paint. Gotta have the patients of a Saint to do all that. And you Sir exude patience. Your videos are so calming and relaxing to watch. Love your channel💕
I understand we all like different looks in furniture, painted or bare wood… but l have to say, it’s a glorious site to see when you breathe new life into these old wood pieces. In my view, you always do such a wonderful job with the challenges you face in your projects.
Ah, finally - the long awaited Barbie project! And of course, it doesn't disappoint, well done. Hope you enjoyed the film, too. Let's hope this used to belong to a little girl that simply grew out of the theme at some stage, rather than an adult with ... issues. And anything with OOAK in the listing is a massive red flag to me. As it stands for "One Of A Kind", it usually means somebody is trying to charge a premium for whatever atrocity they commited to a decent piece of furniture...
Another lovely piece. I enjoy learning your creative approaches to work with the challenges each project presents. BTW where do you find all of the beautiful brass figures?
I’m not Barry, but I’ve watched enough of his videos to know that he has been collecting those brass figures for a long time. Many have come from thrift stores and estate sales and the like. He does have some splendid ones, doesn’t he? 🙂
This was another one of your remarkable restorations. Another UA-camr slaps a coat of paint on every piece of furniture that crosses her path then brags how much money she made. In the episode I watched, she bragged that you and she were friends. Thank you for restoring furniture.
OOAK means One Of A Kind. It means someone spent their time, money, and energy into making something truly unique. Honestly, I feel bad for the artist who customized this dresser. It looked really good, and they were most likely hoping this would go to a little girl who would appreciate the Barbie theme, but instead it goes to this man who said "Nah, I'm gonna ruin the dreams of little girls and revert this dumb thing back to a nOrMaL dresser!"
She was a furniture flipper who cut corners and slapped some paint on a vintage dresser. She told me it wasn't selling for $50 and gave it to me for $40. I was there. Were you there?
I love the beautiful 'old' real wood furniture. I have pieces from my grand parents that make my heart sing. I still take care of this furniture as my grandmother always did. Such memories!
😒I assume, it wasn't done up like that for long. As a fan of unpainted wood furnishings, that ... nasty magenta-pink ... did something odd to my stomach. The end results were beautiful. Thank you for putting the effort forward to persevere this piece.
I like the colour you achieved; the dresser looks really good now, and it has regained some of its dignity. I hope that if the new owner repaints it, they use a more sympathetic colour scheme.
What is wrong with paint or pink? Those paint scrapping people are not only boring, just messed up . ‘No colour allowed! Ew, a colour? Get out of here! ‘ destroying pretty things to make them more ‘gritty’. This is what ‘classy’ means to them. I have no idea if they are a provocation or genuine, like this guy for example. What a joke.
Regardless of the reasoning, this dresser is beautiful. That cricket is looking for friends and possibly lost so he is calling out to someone. You do great work Barry and I hope that you have a fabulous day.
Good to see you again Barry 😊 I can relate to your three categories too. Sneaky trick with the Barbie 😅 I too have a cricket in my shop that keeps me company when I'm working in the evenings 🦗🦗🦗🦗 Love watching all of your content. Keep it coming brother!
Even though this was a learning project for you, you still saved it from the certain doom of a landfill with that color combination. Someone will be a very happy camper to have a restored dresser with mirror. Your choices of background music were quite nice - soothing with a zen feeling. Thank for another visit to your shop, and cheers from Oklahoma!!!
Thank you for “restoring” this piece! Love your attention to detail. Recently watched a person who was restoring a MCM dresser only to see her paint it again! That’s an hour I’ll never get back again!

Unlike other painted furniture we have seen on this channel and others, whoever painted this one did a really good job.
I agree. I was surprised by the quality of the paint and vinyl Barbie makeover and pleased by the restoration. Well done.
Yeah, it’s not for everyone but I’d definitely put the “before” in my kid’s room
Sarcasm? Hope so!
Yeah, the before actually didn't look too bad, but seeing it back in it's original state was still nice to see though.
That paint job makes me want to eat a whole box of Good & Plenty candies.
Looks like I’m in the minority here, as I thought that it was a relatively well-done Barbie-themed makeover. I’ve seen a lot worse! 😂 I am sure that whatever little girl had that dresser enjoyed it a great deal. Thanks for sharing, as always.
Yeah the before was definitely not badly done! Still a lovely transformation though
Sorry....but UGHHH!
Chances are, it was made for a grown woman. Or at least a teenager. It's a little too 'glam' for a little girl.
Ditto
If I was 12-13 y.o., I would love to own this vanity :D
Barbie should be proud to have this in her dream house!
Haha

I dont know why you say that Barbie dresser has no resale value as I would certainly buy it xxx beautiful job, Barrie ❤
Thank you!
Beautifully done! It looks like the dresser is breathing a sigh of relief. It has an understated elegance that would fit into any decor. Enjoyed the process 👍
Thank you so much!
Ooak is an acronym for One Of A Kind
i never would have expected a furniture cleanup video to have such relaxing music, that with your little cricket buddy made it so much better
😊 thank you
This is a day and night transformation. The Barbie theme was cute, but you’ve restored this piece to its original glory.
A mug of coffee, a bar of my favourite chocolate and an episode of Mad City Modern. What more could you ask for?
Another awesome video Barry. Thank you. 🙏🙏🙏
This made me smile
Sounds like you know how to live well @Cutler65!
The before is so so beautiful! They did a great job painting it. Sad to see it go but still beautiful! Great job! I just really dislike how people are calling it ugly. It’s not, lots of people would like the before as well.
Yes thank you
I agree. It was a nice character piece and was done well. Any Barbie super fan would have loved it.
It turned on beautiful / handsome even. Whoever ends up with it is a very lucky person. 👍🏻
Thank you

You undersell yourself. You did a good job restoring this sturdy piece, making it usable by a much wider spectrum of customers.
Barry you’re back! I was so excited to see a new posting. I have watched and rewatched every post I can find of yours.
I’ve always loved vintage and antique pieces. Every day an old piece of furniture or a lamp or tool gets restored is a great day. Thank you for making so many great days. 😊

Great job! BTW OOAK stands for One Of A Kind - a term used often in the world of doll collecting.
Thanks for the info!
We missed you!! Glad to see our favorite furniture refinisher-storyteller is back!

With the dreamy background music & tight camera framing, this is like a meditation from start to finish. With bonus cricket chirping! 😜
I really appreciate this

It looks very nice in the end 😃
though I actually think the Barbie paint job looked pretty well done and definitely would’ve wanted it when I was 13

The barbie paint was actually hella cool
abswolutely
It looks wonderful!
Thank you
The Barbie movie is actually really great! It has an awesome message and a "feel good" feel.
That's what others have said
It looks SO much better when you finished!!
I’m still 😮 that it was taped, not painted! Well done you😎
Your voice is so soothing. I actually use your videos to help me sleep if you made a series of videos reading random things, I'd play them every night.
I love that idea!
Wow! You did such a lovely job! You made that dresser go from trash to treasure!
Thank you! 😊
I think in the end the piece looked terrific. You do amazing work.
I simply love watching you work, Barry! You give me such a sense of calm and appreciation for your craft ❤
It's a lovely piece that would look great in a child's bedroom in a farmhouse, where people appreciate wood but don't want to spend too much when the child is still young and liable to be a little rough on the piece. You've done a beautiful job.
That is awesome looking! You totally saved that dresser. You have excellent vision I wouldn’t have looked twice at that.❤
I think you did this piece proud!!! I love it.
You did such and amazing job on this piece! It’s beautiful
Such great feedback as always

Barbie at 10:25! Amazing restoration, as always. Ugly duckling to beautiful swan. I wish you had an online store for furniture you've restored.
I appreciate this

Barry, this grey sitch surprised me, looks better than I thought it might.

The dresser turned out beautiful. I saw the Barbie reflected in the mirror. I love the stories you tell.
Gosh, hopefully the next owner doesn’t paint over this beauty or apply sticky paper on it. Your hard work efforts made this look 100M times better.👍⭐️
Thank you!

I hope so too!
Regardless of the reasoning, this dresser is beautiful. That cricket is looking for friends and possibly lost so he is calling out to someone. You do great work Barry and I hope that you have a fabulous day.
Love this
Good to see you again Barry 😊
I can relate to your three categories too.
Sneaky trick with the Barbie 😅
I too have a cricket in my shop that keeps me company when I'm working in the evenings 🦗🦗🦗🦗
Love watching all of your content. Keep it coming brother!

Beautiful job Barry.
I think this dresser turned out beautifully. Well done.
I enjoy all your videos, and I really like how you number the episodes. It helps me keep track which videos I've seen💖
Thank you. I’m working on updating the numbers
Your skills and patience amazes me.
Holy cow! This is stunning. You saved this piece from the dumpster for sure!
I like the way this came out. I think it looks regal and whoever buys it will be very happy. Good job, Barry!
Thank you for “restoring” this piece! Love your attention to detail. Recently watched a person who was restoring a MCM dresser only to see her paint it again! That’s an hour I’ll never get back again!
Your attention to detail is magnificent. Showing the detail so close up, has helped me really learn how to do it for myself. Thank you so much!
Awesome, thank you!
