A drinking spot is always a good idea and ive noticed it keeps the humidity inside the enclosures much longer with less risk of mold cause the sub doesnt need to be as damp to get to the right humidity %
Close to tears. Poor guy. And I do think that trapdoor species is hard to keep. Sorry Petko. Maybe a tiny water dish for the Hapalopus sp. columbia large. Getting moisture from the substrate or just humidity usually works, but I find some spiders just like an open water source - I think she may just prefer it that way, to the point that she'd rather dehydrate herself.
This why I always include a waterdish, even (especially) for some of my smallest spiders. Without a waterdish I feel constantly worried that something like this may happen, where the spider maybe didnt drink from the droplets/substrate. Also, I have seen my spiders many many times drinking directly from the dish. Often directly after a molt, they just go straight to the water and start drinking, it´s kinda amazing to see that.

And to know how much attention you paid for the best possible outcome. So sorry for your loss, both of them.
Usually this species are not really into eating when there is light. I have one before and I just leave the roach in her enclosure and the next day it's gone.
Oh Petko I'm so sorry. You look like you need a hug. I'll give you virtual hug! I hope your weekend goes better. Stay healthy and safe. Again I'm sorry that really sucks.
My Borneo Black slink died two days ago. I’m not really sure what happened the only thing I can think of is the air in the enclosure became bad or maybe he died of stress. The slink was very plump when I pulled it out of the enclosure. I tried to feed it a day before it died and it seemed very spicy but refused food. The reason I think it died of stress was because I made a stupid error. I looked at a care sheet which I only do to find out if there arboreal or terrestrial I don’t take anything else from the care sheet. The care sheet said the species was terrestrial and I found out later it was actually arboreal. I designed its enclose for a terrestrial and it burrowed under the piece of cork bark I had in there. So I figured maybe since it couldn’t climb and was stuck in the ground it was just super stressed and died but I don’t know. If anyone knows about the Borneo Black species please let me know. I want to get another one but I want to make sure it survives this time. Sorry for the long comment.

Water dishes have saved my tarantulas. I had a T Gigas in a similar death curl situation. I moved her face into the water and the next morning she was 100% revived! From then on I kept her a water dish and she uses it. Some of my T’s fill them with substrate but I just throw it away and replace the soda bottle cap. My family saves them for me so I never have to clean them out. I also have some tattoo ink pots for tiny tiny T’s who can’t fit a bottle cap in their enclosure. It’s easy, convenient and helps create a failsafe from dehydration.

It looked on the video like it had web all over the bottom of it so maybe it had a bad molt, webbed up it's abdomen to fix the issue and now won't eat because of it? I don't know, all speculation. I've just never seen a tarantulas abdomen look like that before. Definitely keep us up to date because that's very interesting.
Yeah same, even saw my versicolor sling. After refilling the waterdish and misting one corner, (s)he came out went straight down and drank for minutes. Cutest thing really.
@Anthony Pellham I so relate. I am actually an arachnophobe, but found spiders so fascinating as well. I currently own 5 tarantulas, mostly slings. It is still a challenge sometimes, taking care of them, but I really want to conquer my fear of spiders.
He still has the misting system over Felix, in the wild chameleons experience cycles in humidity throughout the day. In an open setup like his with a misting system, its actually closer to their natural environment than a closed off enclosure with constant humidity. Although I agree that it would be worth while to monitor the humidity around his enclosure over the course of the day and vary the misting to best replicate natural conditions.
I always thought you needed to maintain a fairly high humidity at all times too. I don't know what climate this type of chameleon comes from though. Like in the tropics, yes there's cycles of humidity, but the relative humidity is always high, while indoors it usually doesn't get much over 60%.
everytime he opens the door the room is getting dried off a little, the misting system might just be able to level this out, but not getting it humid enough for little Felix. Go think about some lamellas in front of the door.
Even if an enlosure is misted, some just need a waterdish, use bottle caps for smaller ones and little glasses for larger ones, look at Exotis lair for an idea
He wont. He'll learn when they all start eating each other though. The fact he is using regular sized enclosures that he uses for 1 T, for 5 is absolutely insane

What your hapalopus did is exactly what my GBB did a few months ago except my GBB was a sling and sadly never came back. Started refusing food i thought it was normal, molted continued thinking everything was okay and then after refusing food every week for 3 months my little guy just curled up and died. Kind of re-breaks my heart thinking on it and I go right back to blaming myself even though i'm almost positive my husbandry was damn near perfect. What makes it even more strange is he was a magnificent eater up until those last 3-4 months which just keeps a new keeper as myself kind of stuck.
It may be a good idea to have a separate Mutual Enclosure for breeding certain spiders ... She seemed to see the presence of him as intrusive , so she left her home to find another ... I am super sorry for your loss Pecko

Aw that sucks man but I think you should persevere with seladonias, they're one of my favourite species and even if you don't want to ever have a sling again you should totally keep your eye out for a more mature tarantula! (Or get a few slings)
oh poor seladonia 😢 Martin at BirdspidersCH channel has really good info about seladonia care if you ever get another also if you can put spiders to intensive care if you find them in bad condition and they will often recover. a small deli pot type container lined w/ moist paper towel and a water bowl put in a v warm environment (at least 30°) is good recovery conditions for stressed spider
still, big thanks to you petko for inspiring me and all other people on my country the philippines and the whole world, keep doin what you do best love Lotsss

1 of the major things I have always been told is to always include a water dish, sure a tarantula can drink water from the side of a enclosure I've always been told to just include a water dish as well plus I've only had my tarantula for a few months and yet seen it drinking several times.
@@dakotahsmith8320 Mine's done that and also tipped over the water dish. I've seen mine use the water to actually make a burrow where it carries the dirt out and to the water dish plonks it down in it then carries it back down into the burrow.
I received an H. Gigas like that. Completely lethargic and weak. Flipped it for a couple days dripping water and mashed food on it's mouth parts. It regained some strength while I was diligently caring for it, he sat with me at my desk for two days while I was studying for finals. Unfortunately, I had to get back to work and it deteriorated again. It arrived injured or sick and despite my efforts it didn't make it. I understand sometimes this happens, especially when you have a lot of tarantulas but it really sucked.
Anyone that keeps livestock will inevitably have dead stock, sooner or later, be it animal or insect. It is unfortunate but that is the way of things. Love your bearded dragon. I see them sitting on fence posts at home. Also get a LOT of Tiliqua Rugosa, (stumpy tail lizard). Sometimes they wander into the house. Also have Gould's sand goannas up to 160 cm long,( yes, 5 ft or a bit more) that are always raiding my egg supply! A few brown snakes, small scorpions too! It's wonderful place to live. The desert has such a diverse range of creatures. Don't blame yourself for the demise of your spiders. It happens to us all eventually. Greetings from Dimboola, Australia.
Place mouth part only over a shallow water bowl its the same thing i done with one of my trapdoor's cyphonisia sp barychelidae and it worked. I have photos and a short video to prove. Edit note her abdomen was like a prune or shriveled and barely moved one leg when gently touched with a soft brush she was in death curl to. and is currently doing well.
Maybe try giving her a soda cap full of water to drink from? She might not like drinking from the substrate and that's why she's getting dehydrated.

Was going to say, I have a water dish for all my Ts. Especially if your going in there to mist all the time. Dish keeps water longer
Keep your head up. Nature works in weird ways. Love the videos 👍
Good video. Keep doing videos watching from Arizona
WATER DISH. I can't tell you how many spiders I have watched drink from dishes
Noah Blades all of mine will only drink from a dish
Yeah same, even saw my versicolor sling. After refilling the waterdish and misting one corner, (s)he came out went straight down and drank for minutes. Cutest thing really.
@Anthony Pellham I so relate. I am actually an arachnophobe, but found spiders so fascinating as well. I currently own 5 tarantulas, mostly slings. It is still a challenge sometimes, taking care of them, but I really want to conquer my fear of spiders.
Agreed.
Absolutely! My B. Albopilosum drinks from her dish all the time, she always comes over after I change it to check it out and take a sip ☺️
You seriously need to transfer P. metallicas in a bigger communal setup. And you should use a water dish in Hapalopus sp. Colombia large's enclosure.
Petko why the hell did you do a sexy time to be released on Friday the 13th. You should have known this would happen 🤣
Petko, I'm afraid Felix needs more more moisture.Perhaps you must check humidity in the new, and beautiful, dark den.
Like in the tropics, yes there's cycles of humidity, but the relative humidity is always high, while indoors it usually doesn't get much over 60%.
as Felix's terrarium isnt closed, the loss of humidity is logic
@@Neolordzeal id imagine that hes done a lot of research ?
everytime he opens the door the room is getting dried off a little, the misting system might just be able to level this out, but not getting it humid enough for little Felix. Go think about some lamellas in front of the door.
Even if an enlosure is misted, some just need a waterdish, use bottle caps for smaller ones and little glasses for larger ones, look at Exotis lair for an idea
So sorry for your loss Petco😢 Better luck to come👍
give her water. she needs a water dish
I think you should move the Metallicas to a bigger enclosure sooner because they look pretty big for that tiny communal enclosure.
AGREE
He wont. He'll learn when they all start eating each other though. The fact he is using regular sized enclosures that he uses for 1 T, for 5 is absolutely insane
@@Screamingtilltheend Well Petkos never been an amazing keeper, he doesn't learn when spiders die. Bet he still won't give his ts water dishes after his pumpkin patch incident.
@@OfficialMuffiin Tbh he's just a UA-cam keeper, gets whatever will get him views and doesnt house it appropriately. He has definitely declined in the last few years
what are these replies?? so rude and ignorant. the best way is to suggest, everyone in this hobby is still learning.
14:54 "Slowly... slooowwwwly..."
15:04 "LATER, LOSERS"
"2x RIP"...ok I've only seen one
"Hubba hubba time"...ooooh here it comes
I have 2 of those I just got them shipped and 4 more is incoming as of now they are tiny slings
maybe a water cup in the dehydrated one's enclosure? at least until it eats... or try different type of food maybe it doesn't like the roaches
Thank you for all you do Petko
It could be impaction. It shows the same lethargic nature and premature death curl
Poor guy, he didnt deserve it. He was totally ready to deliver.
Hello Darkden sorry about the spider he had a great life for sure nice to see felix and pesto amazing ..thanks so much darkden.....
It may be a good idea to have a separate Mutual Enclosure for breeding certain spiders ... She seemed to see the presence of him as intrusive , so she left her home to find another ... I am super sorry for your loss Pecko
Thanks to i got ideas on how to take care of Ts!! I got my first brachypelma boehmei i bought last last week and today I'll get my cyriopagopus hainanum!! More love to this channel!
I was hoping to get a suggestion on a book I could order. One that gives full details on a large variety of tarantula species! I have raised several insects and pets but feel a call towards the tarantula now! Any book reviews will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
So sorry for your loss Petko. Im super sad you you :(
Aw that sucks man but I think you should persevere with seladonias, they're one of my favourite species and even if you don't want to ever have a sling again you should totally keep your eye out for a more mature tarantula! (Or get a few slings)
oh poor seladonia 😢 Martin at BirdspidersCH channel has really good info about seladonia care if you ever get another
also if you can put spiders to intensive care if you find them in bad condition and they will often recover. a small deli pot type container lined w/ moist paper towel and a water bowl put in a v warm environment (at least 30°) is good recovery conditions for stressed spider
You are an Amazing UA-camr keep it up man 👌🏼
Ohh ,poor little didn’t even have a chance to fall in love, bless him
still, big thanks to you petko for inspiring me and all other people on my country the philippines and the whole world, keep doin what you do best
love Lotsss
How unfortunate...Good luck for the future!
Cork is a highly absorbant material, when in tube form it maybe prevents moisture getting to the spider despite the moist substrate?
That Machala is gorgeous 😍 Really sucks about the tiny guy 😭 I loved the coloring on it!
I like to take a break from the worlds problems and come to the dark den.
We can see your sadness about the bad news and the fatal sex time... i suffered too... But your videos make me want to have at least 1 tarantula! Love your videos!
1 of the major things I have always been told is to always include a water dish, sure a tarantula can drink water from the side of a enclosure I've always been told to just include a water dish as well plus I've only had my tarantula for a few months and yet seen it drinking several times.
Right I got a cobalt blue and have a water dish mine seems to dirty it up every time
@@dakotahsmith8320 Mine's done that and also tipped over the water dish. I've seen mine use the water to actually make a burrow where it carries the dirt out and to the water dish plonks it down in it then carries it back down into the burrow.
@@FC360Di will say i was lucky my female was cheeper then the rest mostly due to the fact she was missing a leg but good news she grew it back
As sad as it may be to lose a spider, I feel like "fatal sexy time" should be a shirt or bumper sticker
Greetings from Dimboola, Australia.
why dont you put bottle caps or small cups whit wather in them ?? as a drink source
So heartbreaking, Seladonia was so beautiful. I'm sorry hun.
Usually I put a bottle cap with water in my hapalopus enclosures, and they just do it fine
Exotic Lair has water cups for most if not all of his tarantula's, I think you should try doing that too.
Try not to fee chrickets to your critters alot of them contain parisides call nemitodes something that are toxic to trantulars
Let’s all have a moment of silence 😔I’m sorry Petko. 🙏🏻
same thing happened with my pumpkin patch sp. large at the same exact molt size she passed away sadly good luck man
Giving fresh prawns is a great way to rehydrate and reviatilize spiders that do no react to live prey..
T. seladonia need a piece of cork bark with lichen on, they make trapdoors on the cork using the lichen.
This video was fantastic! Definitely a roller coaster but I couldnt help but laugh at the end 😆
