I agree👍🏼 The only thing that's starting to disappear in the US are old GEs like this C36-7//ND5 chugging. Also the Leslie is starting to slowly fade away from class 1 railroads too sadly.
@The Real Patticakes Correct, these are Leslie RS3L's. They were all retired a few months ago, Nanjing will never be the same again without that note! They have been replaced by licence built HXN5's (GE ES59ACi) which have a copy Nathan. Still sound good, but I much prefer the Leslie's..
They're really part of my childhood. Every time I hear these Leslie horns reverberating around the city, I can't help recalling my childhood when my grandpa and dad took me to the railway sides to see ND5s. Sadly more and more of them are running out of service, and even so, here comes news saying that they will soon all disappear from Nanjing within half a year. There are only around 10 ND5s in service now, and only 3 of them are the original model imported in 1984. Everything changed so fast that when I realized that I needed to record their last days in China, everything was too late. Sometimes I can't stop my tears when I recall the good old days beside these ND5s. I'm so thankful for your recording these fantastic clips showing their last rides in China. I feel like my childhood really comes back to me.
@@georgeross6304 I can't answer that completely as I've not been to the USA! In China they have had a series of "speed up" initiatives over the years and I guess being a completely nationalised system helps greatly as well.
Nice video at the Zhonghe Bridge crossing. The Nanjing-Wuhu railway has changed so much over the years. Before I left for the US in 2012, there were a lot more crossings and stations where you could spot trains. My personal favorite back then was the Guanghuamen Railway Station where you could easily see train passing and waiting in the station. Due to my work limit, I only went back to China once in the past 8 years and really missed all these trains. After watching your video, I just checked the current status of the railway. Sadly, I just saw a post saying that all the minor stations are now completely fenced and almost all crossings are now removed, except for the one at Zhonghe Bridge. The train schedule also changed dramatically and HXN5s are now taking over almost all of the ND5s.
That is very sad, but I'm not surprised. I head the ND5 are now very limited service, but I hadn't heard about the small railways stations. I am glad I visited when I did, ND5's everywhere!
@@KCR59 Yes, about 100km's single track with many passing loops. it is a very busy line and sometimes you can find 3 or 4 trains in the same direction 10 minutes apart. It will close soon sadly.
@@KCR59 I visited here twice in December 2017 (combined ~6 hours) and once in October 2018 (~2 hours). In my first visit there were more good photo locations. Now one of the river banks is closed.
It's cool that they're equipped with Leslie RS3L horns. Reminds me of trains here in the US!

These aren’t official real RS-3L horns. They’re direct one on one copies of RS-3Ls, and have a heavier thicker casting.
0:31 awesome horn
Those engines are fast! If it wasn't for the crossing bells, most of the scenes would sound like they were taken on the Santa Fe in the early 90s!

Is this the main line?
Thanks Zhao! @ Jamie, yes this is the mainline from Nanjing to Wuhu.
@@petesworldrailwayvideos Pete, why China's freight train seems way faster than America's??

What's the time interval of two ND5s?
It can be anything from 10 minutes to an hour.

why china freight horn same america train horn, its same product?
It's American Built, GE Used Leslie RS3L Horn That Typically Conrail's Locomotive Horn.
In us they are known as Dash 7 same locomotive

This Railroad Crossing is close to sounding like the one in South Korea.
American sounds in China?
Yep, who'd have thought it?
