To answer a very old question asked here: Yes, the CPU is, in fact, upgradeable. There are extremely strict requirements on this and certain models are EFI restricted, but it is very much possible in many models. If you're capable and patient enough to dismantle and reassemble your iMac nearly entirely (as well as brave enough to void your warranty if it's still active) the CPU can be upgraded with very rewarding results. I will be posting a video soon of this procedure - actually used this
Mine gets really hot and I don't think the fan is working at all. It's had the purple and green graphics card issues. I am debating on fixing it since it's older, but it was awesome when it worked well. My emc is 2390. Where is the video to take off the screen?
Hi Thanks. I recommend after reballing or reflowing the solder to manually set the fans at a minimum of 2000 rpm and with small desktop fan at the back (at speed 1 perhaps or 2). For the late 2009 iMac ATI Mobility 4850 GPU, what kind of thermal pads is need to replace the thermal pads (for the chips that surround the GPU chip?), how thick and what brand? Thank you. Have a great day. God bless. Philippians 2:13
Hope you reply. My iMac 27in (Late 2009) just about 30 minutes ago got green lines and froze and restarted and is now getting pink lines at boot and will just turn back off. After researching it seems to be the Logic Board or GPU. Lucky me, warranty expired. Isn't that nice... :/ $3000 down the drain. I was wondering if I could do that put thermal paste and reheat the with a heat gun to fix? Please any ways i can get it working?
You'll have to replace the video card most likely. On some models it is replaceable and others it isn't. Give our repair department a call at 866-726-3342, option 2, and they'll let you know what it'll take to get you up and running again.
This is either not the A1312 or not the 27", because that's what I have (A1312, EMC 2429) and it doesn't quite match your video in all aspects. Consider this alternative: ua-cam.com/video/6B4iCYSWlWM/v-deo.html even tho it's also not perfect and has its flaws.. especially toward the end. Yeesh.
Thank you!! Thank you!! This is by far the BEST step-by-step disassembly video for the imac 27 on youtube! And I have seen a LOT!!
On the back of the iMac logic bord their are only 2 connectors, the SATA kabel and the power supply right ?
Thank you so much, your video helps me to repair IMAC which I don't dare to do it before and save time and money.
Hello. After you take the front glass out and the monitor is it ok to plug it in to see if the fans are even working? Im suspecting mine aren't.
TIP: Before you extract the logic board (adding SSD?), remove RAM first. The logic board will re-seat much easier.

Is it possible to remove the left speaker without removing the logic board?
No, unfortunately. the logic board has to come out and then the left fain to get the speaker out

@TheDonAtlantic - No it is not.
