Fridas mezzo soprano voice shines in this song, she looked gorgeous too. U can tell the boys were leaning to musical theater musically mid in their career, and of course the song is a show tune in the Mamma mia musical. As usual Benny is a genius, tapping in to his classical music influences with a great piano performance in this track
I was 6 year old, I doesn't knew english, living behind the Iron Curtain. I was on a winter holiday with my parents, and in a Hotel they was a music machine. Once someone put in this song, and I loved so much, after that I asked everyone everytime to put this song in. I was never ever with same reaction to any other music before, but this so much catched my 6 years old soul, I fallen in love with ABBA (even I don't think I knew their names).... From that time I think that was a revelation for me, to hear so much musical and vocal perfection together with that dramatic c-minor sounding (not usual in the world of pop, but ABBA of course much more than just a pop group).... I think this song was my first meeting with the real Art, that music can be more than just the happy children's songs. Thank you ABBA to this first experience!
I love the costumes. I've been to the museum, I've met Benny and have corresponded with Björn. Görel is super nice (the manager). I agree it was a fun lyric by Björn. And I love the cabaret style.
Strangely, this song only reached #56 on the US Billboard Hot 100, on the back of their #1 hit Dancing Queen. However, in most other parts of the world it was another huge hit for them. I recommend ABBA, Why Did It Have To Be Me, live in Australia 1977. Iconic performance by Frida. You won't be disappointed.
@Marvin Morawski The chorus is pretty much iconic, the title immediately conjures up the melody. Many people who lived through the 70s knew the chorus, it almost became too familiar in many places. It has a dystopian theme though and the video reinforces that.

Wonderful song, this is one of Frida’s best vocal with I LET THE MUSIC SPEAK. Other great songs from ABBA are MOVE ON, HASTA MANANA, HEAD OVER HEELS.......there is so many of them. You also might like DOES YOUR MOTHER KNOW.....great videoclip.
I LOVE your reviews of the ABBA songs! One of the strengths of ABBA is definitely that they made an effort to sing clearly so as to let everybody catch the lyrics.
Abba were always influenced by musicals. They did a mini-musical The Girl With The Golden Hair on The Album (1977). And after Abba, of course, Benny and Björn moved on to the musical business with Chess.
ABBA used the video clips as a way of promoting their singles worldwide. Even though music videos were very much in their infancy back then, there was a lot of charm and creativity in the ABBA videos which really emphasised the songs. Lasse Halllstrom created the iconic profile and close-up shots of the band which were used in many of the earlier hits.
ABBA actually invented the concept of releasing music videos with every single because they were successful in so many countries, they couldn't travel to each one to promote them.
But the looks at the camera, the zooms, some of the sudden quick 'dance' turns, the poses, do have an aggressive import to them. The impression isn't of them just lounging about in kimonos.
I also love Ring Ring album.Frida sang more like her own voice at the beginning period of ABBA.Songs were distributed more fairly.ABBA were young and sweet.
'Money, Money, Money' was the World's 13th Best Selling Single of 1977. This is despite it failing to reach the Top 40, in the USA and Canada. I know that it was released in November 1976, but most of its Global Chart Weeks were in 1977. Had all of its Chart Weeks been in 1976, then it would have been the World's 7th Best Selling Single of that Year. With 'Fernando' 2nd, 'Dancing Queen' 4th and 'Mamma Mia' 16th. ('Dancing Queen' had 8 more Global Top 10 Weeks, in 1977. It would have been the No.1 Single of 1976, had all of its 23 Top 10 Weeks been in that Year. It had 15 Global Top 10 Weeks in 1976, (6 Weeks at No.1), and it reached No.3 - for 2 Weeks - in 1977. The 8 1977 Weeks, were mainly due, to it getting to No.1, in the USA and Canada, that Year)...
yep 1976 was their most successfull year and though many consider Agnetha the face of ABBA, it was all Frida's turn to have all solo vocal parts that year and most in 1977. Many forget about that. Fernando, Money Money and Knowing Me Knowing You... Frida's leadvocal, Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen shared and The Name Of The Game with scarce lead vocal share. Agnetha did not have the lead from 1975 SOS until 1978 Take A Chance On Me.... I always wondered why in later years it was mostley Agnetha taking the lead especially the last to years 1981 and 1982, no world wide ABBA release with Frida's lead vocals...
@@dreasbn I wondered about that too. In 1982, it may have been because Frida's first international solo album and singles were released around the same time as ABBA's last two singles. Perhaps they didn't want to cause any confusion since Frida was already featured in the charts with her solo material. I remember here in the Netherlands ABBA's The Day Before You Came and Frida's To Turn The Stone were in the top 10 simultaneously. But in 1981, I think it was a mistake to not have When All Is Said And Done as a worldwide A-side as a taster for the upcoming album. This was the first time since their breakthrough that no single was released at all until the new album was already out.
@@Emmenem68 yep indeed but then again there were just 13 months between Super Trouper and The Visitors and to be honest that did not bother me as much that they did not exploid Super Trouper a bit more. Our Last Summer could have been a single or Lay All Your Love On Me at least a proper single release.. One Of Us was a big hit, so obviously the right choice, but When All Is Said And Done for sure should have been the follow up. They did release WAISAD and The Visitors in the US THOUGH Frida was on the charts with Something's Going On... so it might be a reason but then again.... I thought it was more or less the local record companies decision at the time and not ABBA's.... Head Over Heels was the big mistake from the start. I did not expect the song to do very well and was not suprised at all it failed to crack most Top10... it was bland and playing too hard tongue and cheek and it was not... I even like Should I Laugh Or Cry better.... which is a song i'd love to see "remixed" with accoustic setting instead of that cold synth arrangement...oh yes.. i got carried away..
Curious fact: It is a very-well known fact that Benny and Björn are quite the perfectionists in the recording studio and they usually guided Agnetha and Frida how to perform a song, with contributions from the girls themselves. When it was time for Frida to record her vocals for Money, Money, Money Benny was pushing her so much that she got angry and her anger shows in a couple of parts when she sings the song.
It was meant to be released as a single but record company opted for does your mother know instead. ..it would definitely have been a no1 for them.....
@@frankly-he1kf sorry, nope it was supposed to be the follow up to Summer Night City and already performed on Japanese and later UK television in December 1978, but then Chiquitita came along and was quickly picked as new single in January 1979 as worldwide (not the US though for whatever reason) release and performed at UNICEF show in January 79 , followed by Does Your Mother Know in spring 1979 alongside the release of the album Voulez Vous.
You commented on the Karate suits...hilarious!! Those were their signature Kimonos that they wore on their appearances on the Dinah Shore show, Midnight Special, and the Mike Douglas show. There were cool and silly at the same time. Now onto a more serious matter: you must listen to and comment on “Hole in Your Soul” (studio version, not the live version). Agnetha hits a screamer of a high note that you will feel all the way down to your testicles....and this was decades before auto-tune!! If you are looking for Abba’s quintessential up-tempo joy-fest, this is IT!!!
Ironic how you pointed out the dramatic and theatrical sound of this song since it’s one of the highlights from the Mamma Mia! musical. In case you’ve never heard of it (which I doubt), it’s a Broadway jukebox hit musical completely based on ABBA’s greatest hits but with an original plot. It was adapted as a movie in 2008 with Meryl Streep in the main role and later got a sequel in 2018. Check it out! Which reminds me that you’ve surprisingly still haven’t reacted to the song Mamma Mia by ABBA which is maybe their most famous song after Dancing Queen.
ABBA is so awesome. Watch ABBA the movie it’s called I think..... live singing on a tour. Agnetha still had long hair I just can’t remember where it was at. It was the entire concert. It’s on UA-cam. I’m not talking about Mamma Mia. But that is a great movie. All about ABBA SONGS.
This song peaked #03 in UK during 4 weeks (it was big but remember that they had 9 number one Hits in UK , 2 songs that peaked #02 and, including this one, 4 songs that peaked #03). The song did make it to #01 in Eurocharts Hot 100 (was #01 in France, Germany and many other European countries). This song was also #01 in Australia, New Zealand and Mexico. Sadly in US only peaked #56 (the song was TOP 1O in almost every worldwide country except US and Canada).

Regarding the 'karate suits' (actually kiminos), I don't think there was any meaning behind them wearing those ...they were just one bunch of many there various 1970s costume sets they wore ...but possibly, if nothing else, because they're actually kimonos, rather than 'karate suits', maybe a tie-in could be like silk lounge-wear that was also indicative as a luxury item in the 1920s and 1930s, as seen in movies around that time.
The 3 word besides money money money, gimme gimme gimme, is On and On and On, I do I do I do. With 2 words we gave honey honey, andante andante, ring ring
Summer Night City live is another proposal for evaluating. Much better and more engergetic that the studion version, though the sizzeling hot promo video is cool.
Thank you for these awsome and highly analytic reaction videos. Can you please react to "Anthem from Chess The Musical (Tommy Körberg) Polar Studios original 1984 Benny #ABBA #Broadway #ENO" Music and text from Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus from ABBA song buy the phenomonal Tommy Körberg.
Always thought this song missed a few dynamics. As it is it’s great but it’s morally iffy with the whole money = happiness vibe in the lyrics and generally lyrically flat. I think when the key change happens the character of the singer should start to question if money can solve all her problems in the lyrics.
Try these ABBA Songs - 'Move On', 'Lovelight', 'Andante Andante', 'On and On and On', 'Like An Angel Passing Through My Room', ' One Man One Woman', 'Honey, Honey', 'That's Me', 'As Good As New', 'If It Wasn't For The Nights', 'Kisses Of Fire', 'Should I Laugh Or Cry', 'Cassandra', 'Dance While The Music Still Goes On', 'Bang-A-Boomerang', 'When I Kissed The Teacher', 'Dum Dum Diddle', 'Tiger', 'Hole In Your Soul', 'Soldiers', 'Slipping Through My Fingers', 'I Let The Music Speak', 'The Piper' , 'Put On Your White Sombrero, I Am The City', and 'The Way Old Friends Do'...

Which reminds me that you’ve surprisingly still haven’t reacted to the song Mamma Mia by ABBA which is maybe their most famous song after Dancing Queen.
He reads the Wikipedia article of each song before he make reactions video, that's where he gets some of his inputs?
It's very obviously theatrical in itself, the video also shows this, it's depicting a character.
Dereck, would you please react to Abba's metal covers, such as Money Money and Gimme Gimme Gimme
??
You have to do mamma mia ! And watch the movie too !
You should react to some Pet Shop Boys videos!! They have a lot of catchy 80's hits :)
I like the "B" side to this single too. With main vocals sung by Bjorn.👍🙂
Speaking of dramatic videos, react to Knowing me, knowing you please. It’s an amazing song too.
Hi there I made a video on Knowing Me , Knowing You please check it out ✌🏽
Check out the single done by Frida, there's something going on...
Amazing, they are the best, Please do Voulez Vous!! and The Winner Takes It All - thanks xx
Frida is gorgeous,adorable,sweet and cool.
Hi Dereck, I'm your follower. I'd like to know what you do nowadays. It's June 1st and still watch your vídeos.
Dear God. I still have a crush on Frida. Sorry Benny, but your ex is hot!
PS: Always loved the use of key change in this one.
The chorus is carried by Agnetha's voice - the others creating a secondary harmony. Stunning!
The time where word "clip" and "MTV " even doesnt exist
Hey Dereck. Love what you are doing. But -yes. Please listen to 'I wonder' xx
React to Thank You for the Music , Under Attack, Happy New Year, The Visitors,(no video) I have a Dream (Spanish version too) , Our Last Summer,(no video) The Piper (no video) hole on your soul.
@Josue-Joshua Cordova They performed "Hole In Your Soul" live at Wembley Arena, in November, 1979, during their European & North American Tour.
@@AzoreanZionist I meant to say The Piper has no video. Hole on Your Soul live performance is among my favorite.
@@josue-joshuacordova3847 Ok 👍😀
ABBA- ANGELEYES. REACT PLEASE

I recommend reacting on the ABBA songs played on church organ by
Principal45 on UA-cam, pure joy!

Money Money Money is a little bit devilish...ABBA Great - ABBA forever...
Lyrics are girls secrets, they shouldn t say it out loud! Today such lyrics are outrageous because they are very anti P.C.
