It's one thing wondering round the gardens for free just looking and pondering, but having a guide giving you fascinating facts and history for just £10 is well worth it. Will definitely give this a try. Thanks for a great video.
£10 is a great price to me. It’s nice to see the gardens getting the recognition it deserves. Whoever is in charge of the upkeep has always kept them up to such a beautiful high standard. 😊 Edit- I also think the tour option allows for more of a family experience, so if you have a couple of older/elderly people in your group, or someone who doesn’t like theme park rides, instead of being left with the bags all day they can enjoy something different.
Really enjoyed this vlog. I've never been to Alton towers, but I've known of it since Nemesis was being built the first time. I've always been fascinated with how the park was built on the grounds of an old castle. To have a guided tour of the castle and gardens is definitely worth the time and current price. One thing that jumped out was the amount they spent as recently as 2010 to renovate the conservatory. That tells me they understand the importance of keeping the structures in tact. Also really liked the music selection and some of the camera shots you took. Not the least of which, looking down at your feet and the stairs as you climbed the tower along with the music was a great touch. Excellent vlog , I've learned to expect nothing less from this channel!
What a great video, its the little things that mean the biggest part in a theme park. The history of Alton towers is absolutely amazing and it fascinates me seeing and hearing all of the stories of the towers and surrounding areas. Crazy to think that the towers and the grounds used to be somewhere that someone lived. God, could you just imagine living there with your butlers, what a spoilt lifestyle 😂 The gardens are amazing and im glad to see them still spending a lot of money on refurbishments and maintaining the heritage. Its the one thing that disney doesnt have, a real life castle in the middle. Thats what makes its so unique!!!! Thanks both for another great video, hope you both had an absolutely amazing wedding. Best of luck to you both and heres to the future 🍻
Incredible to see the beautiful gardens and ruins, and hear the history of Alton Towers, £10 is excellent value. Thanks for sharing Mr and Mrs Sanbrooke.
I've been saying they should do something like this for a while. The money really needs to go back into the Towers and the gardens. Maybe they should take some inspiration from the likes of Blenheim palace /Hampton court etc for this. From the videos you can clearly see that the towers are not the condition they used to be. But also be nice to see these expanded to different days. Great video again and congratulations!
i live 3.5 hours away but have loved this place since i was little. now i’m an adult with an annual pass and i’m definitely going to do this tour next time! the history is what makes alton towers special to me
I was watching this thinking ‘I bet Shawn doesn’t need a guided tour. They could pay him to do it himself!’ 😂 Loved this though. I think it’s a bit cheeky charging people, but at least it’s open! A long time coming!
I don’t think it’s “cheeky” at all, especially considering that unfortunately it had been vandalised when public had full access to the Towers. These buildings and monuments should be preserved, hopefully the additional revenue will go exclusively into restoration closer to its former glory. It’s not just the Towers itself either, the entire gardens is Class 1, so it should look it. The vast majority of this tour can still be enjoyed for free.
Definitely worth the money for 2 hours. I'd definitely do it if I lived closer but it takes hours on public transport and hard to ride everything in a day without 2 hours on a tour. Definitely is a lovely thing to do for people since free to roam has now been stopped.
Go for more than one day then. I’m in Glasgow (Scotland) and have managed to visit using only public transport. Though first day I managed to hit most the big rides without even trying, so if you only wanted to go for the day you could experience most the resort though I feel you must accept that it’s always going to be a bit more rushed in comparison to if you go for two or more days. Personally when I’m travelling a good distance I want to make the most of it, so it’s always worthwhile making the time taken to get to the location as a separate day. This will greatly reduce any stress and make the entire trip more enjoyable.
I’m so pleased the towers are back open and like the idea of a guided tour however if they want to charge £10 on top of admission it should either be just before park opening or after park closure so that you aren’t taking time out your day on the rides which you have already paid for in admission for something else, half of which (the garden section) you could explore on your own in park time
Great video. Long time since I have been in the house, so it's great to see those wonderful views. It's just a shame how the house & gardens are looking now. Great price for the tour £10. Agree with you guys that money you pay for the tour could be used to help with restoring/cleaning the house & gardens.
I think this is a brilliant idea especially for parents if they're letting their teenagers run wild on all the rides (my grandparents used to take me, grandad was definitely not going on nemmy!) so it's a nice option for something to do especially since getting into the gardens that are openly available have stairs and tricky places that aren't accessible for those with mobility issues!

Bit of a odd question but could you do the 4 park challenge again for the nation roller coaster day? I keep watching the video you did with Alex from 5 years ago which is crazy thinking that it wasn't that long ago 🤣 and would be great if you attempted it again! 😄
@@OppenheimerVR I was working it out, reckon it would be easiest starting at Alton Towers (since it’s TPW local resort) then head to Drayton Manor, Legoland, Thorpe Park and finally Chessington World of Adventure. They could even go for a Guinness Book record as it doesn’t look like there’s anyone that’s got “most theme parks in a single day” to make it even more worthwhile doing it.
The problem still remains though, if it’s a 2 hour guided tour that’s a substantial amount of time out of the park and with general summer queues - park opening times need to increase further.
The park should really be using the off-season to take out dying plants and clearing overgrowth so they can start putting new plants in around the start of the season

@@ObsessiveGeek it can be restored as many country houses have been. Being listed doesn't prevent work from taking place. The best way to preserve a building is to give it a function
@@jonathonpotter1059 I never said it can’t be restored, though they cannot do any adjustments to the building which would absolutely be necessary to adapt it into a functional hotel as you suggested. As it stands it’s functionality is a walk through historical landmark, this IS a function regardless of your feelings on it.
I'm glad the towers are open. Even if it is £10 pp. I went to alton for the first time 2 years ago and we couldn't go inside the towers and I was gutted.
I agree with you the money raised needs to go back into restoration of the ruins and gardens, they need to remove the vegetation that has grown in the ruins and the orangery to prevent further damage to the buildings. I thought the orangery had received some funding form English Heritage for repairs. The Canal like you said and bandstand also need tidying up. If they repaired the bandstand and the large ground floor rooms in the ruins they could have some concerts in them. They are asking people to pay twice as you already pay to enter the park so it should be used for restoration purposes i would be disappointed if they did not.
I hope very much like Windsor Castle the Towers get fully refurbished to show guests how the Towers used to look when the Shrewsbury family lived there

@@ObsessiveGeek You must be thinking of 2020's prices honestly. I was there in May this year - The hot dog outlet by Wicker Man where we got food was £13 for a basic plain hot dog, or more if you want to add on extras or swap to a "premium" German sausage. I was also relieved of £5.25 at the same stall for a medium Costa Cappuccino. Charlotte keeps an annual review of prices at the park, check back to videos from April-ish on here and you'll find it.
@@mastergoose2k4 Yep, just watched the 2024 prices video TPW did recently. Kinda weird they don’t seem to have a meal option, it’s just additional extras now. That is a lot, though they are better food options than this to be fair that are meals at a similar price range - I feel like you’re better just going into a sit down restaurant rather than quick service stations.

As it stands it’s functionality is a walk through historical landmark, this IS a function regardless of your feelings on it.
Great video. Would love to see if there is an alternative for the earpiece as this may be a sensory issue for some people 😅
Thank you, not as far as I’m aware of
I'm glad the towers are open. Even if it is £10 pp. I went to alton for the first time 2 years ago and we couldn't go inside the towers and I was gutted.
It’s good to see them back open as part of a guided tour. We really enjoyed it!
Awesome Video Guys 😄😄
Thank you!
I hope very much like Windsor Castle the Towers get fully refurbished to show guests how the Towers used to look when the Shrewsbury family lived there
Would love to see even a few rooms get fully restored!
Oh im 100% booking this on my next visit.
11:34 omg that screaming kid 😣
Great video Shawn and Charlotte 👍👍😃😃
What a interesting 🤔 tour love it 🇦🇺👍
Very Interesting vlog, something I’d like to do at some point 👍🏻
Thank you!
Now you know you’re in Alton Towers when this music comes on 15:54
Actual music is at 15:45
Now that’s a view 11:13
Im booked on the 2pm tour on 27th. Just wandering will i need to buy a lanyard to hold the reciever you get given.do they clean the ear peices or do you keep earpeice after tour?
Have fun! Everything you need it provided and you have to give it back at the end of the tour!
Tour looks great will have to do it just a shame people feel the need to vandalise the towers it’s the center piece of the park
Unfortunately so, as it’s such a beautiful building
The goat not wearing a coat 8:47
I want to go there so bad😭
Hopefully you can visit soon!
@@ThemeParkWorldwide it’s just that I live in Tennessee and I’m 14 so there is a problem. Some day when I’m older I’m gonna make it a dream to visit the UK
Imagine if they did a ghost tour during scarefest 😲
Are u gonna do a planet coaster 2 series? Would be lovely to get a series like the good old days on that!
I definitely will be!
Hey @theme park world wide question about Alton towers and toure
I was a huge fan of the flume and his horrific duck. I can see the tunnel is still in place so each time I pass it I feel the urge to hope over the fence and just have a look if the duck is still there
To avoid a ban from Alton towers any chance you could use your connection to find out or even might visit the lost tunnel of Alton towers /-?
Unfortunately the tunnel is completely closed off
They lured the bear out of the cave using cheese. What cheese did they use? CAM ON BEAR 😂😂
Oh no 😂
🤫
Brilliant vlog
Did the tour guide in the gardens mention if the light walks will return for scarefest and Christmas
There was no mention of it
Yesterday at thorpe park i saw you and got a picture! Also were you vlogging if so when will you post it?
It’ll be on the way this week!
Hey I love your videos! Do you have any plans to go to Legoland or Paultons park soon?
We’ll be back at them both during the season at some point
I think that it's Awesome!
Having a party for my birthday ❌
Watching TPW instead ✅
Love this, have an epic day!
Shawn, I keep getting sick. My nose is runny and blocked, I’ve got a cough again, and I keep sneezing. I had a sore throat last week.
Get well soon!
@themeparkworldwide are you back at alton towers today July 16th as we are visiting for the 1st time today 😀
Have fun!
11:20 god I wish we could have days where small children aren't allowed in the park
It was quite noisy, but it’s all good fun!
Cheaper than a hot dog in the park, so I'll take it...
Love this! There is only 50p difference after all!
Hotdog **MEAL**
Hotdog itself is cheaper.
£10 for a 2 hour guided tour
£9.50 for a plain hot dog
Food is a joke - cheers Aramark.
Any news about a day for Hex re opening yet? 😅😊
Nothing yet sadly
@@ThemeParkWorldwide such a shame.
Its goodly priced but I feel like if its in the day then its not worth it because some people want to ride rides first
Do you have to pay park entry as well and the 10 pounds is on top of that. Or can you just do the tour. Have a few that do not do rides but would love to something like this.
Thanks for the vid some intresting facts there
The £10 is extra on top of entry. Thanks for watching!
24:09 please don’t tell me that’s actually the proper name for what i thought was a holding brake😭😭😭😭😭😭😭crying
It’s a holding brake, however it can also be referred to as a precipice. Love the hold 😍
@@ThemeParkWorldwide I just googled the word and now I understand my English isn't as good as it should be considering I've lived here all my life lol hahahaha
When is your next visit for alton towers? Im going on 18th!
It’ll be early August now!
