    It should be illegal to offer 8 GB of RAM for a "Pro" laptop in 2024.

    I can tell you without even watching this video that if my Mac was running the iPad A12X that would be plenty of CPU for me. It doesn’t take too much to run stuff in the terminal, do what I need to on the web, make spreadsheets and Pages docs and occasionally make video. Currently have an M1 & M2 Mac. The biggest thing is Ram. 16 GB minimum If I don’t want to pay close attention to usage like on my M2 Air.

    I want to get my first Mac and I am interested in M2 Pro 14” 16Gb and 512Gb SSD, the base model, but I’ve been reading that as it’s only a ssd block (not 256-256) the speed and data transmission is not like it should be and goes slow in some cases. That is true at the level that it bothers or there is lag if you have several tabs open in Safari, streaming app,... editing photos just time to time. I don't want to spend that money and then find something that I didn't want. Whoever has it, could you help me? What is the experience like on a day-to-day basis? Thank you

      From my understanding the uses you described rely on ram not ssd speed. I think ssd speed is more for file transfers and stuff like that.

    My problem is I like to have large internal storage and once you start adding that the processors or ram just become similarly priced or for 200 more you can bump to next upgrade e

    The only thing I like to mention is for my fellow AI and ML colleges the M series are good but they are a little bit pain when you want to run related tasks since the libraries are not there yet to make use of arm GPU idk maybe thats the thing in my case eventhough I am really happy with my m1 pro 16 inch macbook sometimes I wish I got a windows based laptop since it is easier to work with realted libraries like pytorch or tensor to use GPU

    I have an early 2015 MacBook pro with intel and wanna get the MacBook Pro m3 pro. I do a lot of web browsing for work using a lot of chrome extensions. Is M1 or M2 enough for this work load? It’s not heavy work like editing and stuff like that but I would eventually like to start editing my own videos and stuff

      I upgraded from my 2015 15" maxed out macbook pro to a 16" m3max (40 core gpu) with 64gb memory. I can max out my machine with statistical analysis for scientific papers and also max out the chip when using ai denoise in lightroom. for your use all apple silicon chips should do well. even m1 is a significant performance boost over your current machine. But go for 16 gb of memory (at least). Of corse the newer chips would be performing better in video editing but as far as i know even the base m2 has a hardware video encoder/decoder (not sure if the m1 base chip has one too). so the m2 should do ok in light video editing. the m3pro definitely is a great chip. it is more efficiency oriented with 6 performance and 6 efficiency cores. The m2pro had 8 performance and 4 efficiency cores. so the cpu performance of the pro chips didnt greatly improve from m2pro to m3pro but the new architecture (3nm) lets the m3pro have about the same performance with less cores and be much more efficient with the new (3nm) node and more efficiency cores it also has better power in low power mode than the m2pro.

    Mac's pricing is driving me crazy. So I just got a Macbook Pro M3 with 16gb Ram two days ago. I mostly write, but also use Adobe InDesign / Photoshop and Adobe Cloud really uses a lot of memory even when I'm not actively using it, 16 gb ram seems adequate, but for $20.00 more, I could get a refurbished M3Pro w/ 18gb Ram- I'm in the return window, I don't know if I should get it or stick with my shiny new MacBook Pro M3. I've already returned a 13 inch refurb MacBook Air that was 8/10 core, 16gb ram, 512 SSD - it seemed like the battery was draining too quickly. Any thoughts on this?

    • @supak00pa82

      I would go with the M3 Pro simply because you'd be getting 2 more GB of ram, plus the extra processing power

    • @fmax6000
      @fmax6000 2 місяці тому

      In addition to the extra RAM, CPU cores and GPU cores, you get hugger memory bandwidth 150Mbps on the M3 pro compared to 100Mbps on the regular M3. And also better video encoders, decoders. My M1 Pro 10/16 with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD, even has faster SSD and higher memory bandwidth at 200Gbps and it still screams fast and chews everything I throw at from programming to video, photo editing and especially AI. I have tons of tabs open all the time, maybe 50 on Safari and another 50 on Firefox. I don’t use Chrome at at as I don’t trust it and I don’t want Google services to bloat my machine. This invention is a history changing compared to PC and x86 architecture. Super silent and cold. Chews everything, it’s been 2 years few months. I’m only eyeing a Mac Studio with M3 Ultra with extra RAM to speed my AI processing. But I might wait for the M4 with the rumors that it will have even better neural engine.
      My friend, max out the RAM as much as you can, RAM is key for everything. And try not to opt for the base storage although Apple is back to using 2 nand chips in the base configuration. The machine should last you 5-10 years easily depending on on your requirements. It’s bulletproof.

  • @Superbus753
    @Superbus753 3 місяці тому +1

    Well i can max out my cpu and gpu on my m3max (40gpu core model) 64gb memory when doing statistical analysis for scientific papers but also when doing photo editing in lightroom and using ai denoise. so it is not only for super professionals but also for entusiast photographers. (video editing might be different as there the dedicated encoders work miracles also on lower end chips)

    I presented a large PDF file through MS Teams on a MacBook Air M2 with 8 GB of memory to a customer. In the middle of a presentation, I got an error (like memory overflow), and the thing came crashing into my preso, and I almost lost that customer. The next day, I ordered a MacBook Pro Max from Amazon with 36 GB of memory. I didn't call the max configuration because it had a 200-dollar discount on this configuration and didn't give me the option to upgrade. I don't know if I will use all that power, but it is here if needed.😊

    • @MonsieurGuy
      @MonsieurGuy 3 місяці тому +2

      Unfortunately the chipsets are powerful, but 8GB ram really isn't gonna be long lasting. 16GB is the minimum for longevity, it's a crime how 8GB is still the base

    • @jns2001
      @jns2001 3 місяці тому +1

      @@MonsieurGuy 8 GB in 2024 is criminal. The world evolves, and Apple continues with this insane business proposition: how much will it cost to have 16 GB as a minimum? It's not much for them, but they prefer to continue doing it, as most customers don't come online to expose their frustration with 8 GB.

    Hi Arthur, can you help me with this decision?
    Yesterday I bought two MacBook Pro models:
    1. MacBook Pro (14-inch) - Apple M2 Pro chip with 12-core CPU and 19-core GPU, 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM (2023) - $1850
    2. MacBook Pro (14-inch) - Apple M2 Pro chip with 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU, 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM (2023) - $1350
    I also have a question:
    Which one should I keep and which one should I return? (Which one is more valuable?)"
    The difference is 500$ is it worth it!

    • @prats990
      @prats990 3 місяці тому

      My 2 cents - what would you use this for?
      If the work load is super heavy then those extra cores would come handy.
      I think you got a good one for 1350.
      For my workflows coding included and testing programs with bunch of chrome and safari tabs, i would keep the 1350$ model.
      I would just buy external ssd for my read and writes.

    Apple is making M series fast and faster display in second. It Apple development trend. It doesn't matter where it goes. It depend on what your need in your job require in speed. What matter is the price to pay for your job can afford. It a decision to consider what is what for.

    ⚡M2 is not just slightly better than m1. Its cache design improved a lot. I have seem it tested by compiling smaller project like a Firefox android app, and it is faster than m1 PRO. Yes, faster than m1 pro not just slightly better than m1. Like a company, a well organized one can be more productive, when the workflow is improved, the additional workers are not proportional to the increased in productivity, although it does not apply to every type of workload. And a lot of people say m2 is even more power hungry than m1, which is true but only under extreme load. In real life, even heavy loads have light tasks in between, and for many people, under medium to light load, m2 consumes quite a bit less power than m1. So I wouldn't say m2 is barely better than m1.
