  • Here I show the techniques that is used when knitting the Moby Sweater by PetiteKnit. The techniques that are used in this project are often used in other structure knitting as well. The hardest part of this kind of knitting is following the diagram. It takes some practice to read these flawlessly. The techniques themselves are not difficult, but using the right one at the right place can be a real challenge even for those who have knitted a lot. Take your time when something is new, you learn more when working slowly. Do a do-over if something gets wrong the first time. Patterns created by PetiteKnit are wonderful to follow and they are without any typos or miscalculations. The Moby Sweater is classified as difficult, but I will argue that it is a good start for more complicated structure knitting because of it's quality. .

I'm really confused about the first 8 rows. The first 2 say to knit in the pattern until the last 41 stitches then 3 & 4 knit to 2 beyond the TS. So I end up with 38 stitches left either side. For rows 5 & 6 do I just knit to the 38th stitch? Because then that throws the whole chart out so I always end up with 4 more stitches on the chart than is on the needles 😭

This part of the pattern is the shaping with short rows - GSR. You knit the stitches until the turning stitch (TS) then turn and knit the wrong side and turn on the other side aswell. The TS moves towards the end of the needle in both sides as the short rows are worked. The chart builds out as the TS is moved towards the end and the beginning of the cast on stitches.

I have similar question - on the diagram, first 4 rows - do you repeat the pattern all the middle 32 stitches or you just made the stiches according the pattern and the rest is made in double moss stich?

The marked part is repeated, how many times is written under the diagram. It depends on witch size you are knitting. All the stitches is not in the diagram to save space.

How did you do the moss sts in round? I had 2 sts that was the same at the connecting point 😢

I think it might be because the start on the back or the front was purl instead of knit or knit instead of purl where the part with double moss stitch starts. This is in the side so you can adjust by one increase or one decrease. It won’t be visible.

Hello, do you start knitting the remaining stitches in double Moss stitch starting row 36 or before ?

Is this when you start knitting in the round?

@@Knit_tech I'm currently working the back yoke, size XS, I've finished the short rows, and I have 12 remaining stitches, 6 on my left needle and 6 on my right one. I'm wondering when should I start working on double Moss stitches for those 12 remaining stitches ?

On row 31 you knit according to the diagram, and continue in double moss stitch til the end of the needle. The same on the other side. This is commented above the diagram. This is such a beautiful sweater, really hope you'll be happy with it! PetiteKnit is one of my favorite designers.

Yes, it's also one of m'y favourite !
Another question, the German short rows stop at row 30, so on row 31 I knit the 6 remaining stitches in double Moss stitches on one of the two needle and on row 32, the remaining 6 as mentioned above the chart ? Thank you for your answer because I'm a bit stuck on it 😅
