Kevin Rowland, Wolverhamptons finest! Born just yards from where I live in Wednesfield. We used to see him at the Wolves games home and away in the mid to late 80s, always on his own but always gave us a sheepish wave when we used to chant 'Geno-Geno-Geno' wherever we saw him!

Used to go to Sheffield Wednesday matches dressed in a woolly hat and my dad's NCB jacket aged 15, bumfluff tache et al in the early 80's and endured plenty of ironic 'Geno' chants!

Just brilliant. I still love the 1st album after all these years, and I don’t think I’ve seen these songs performed by the original line-up before.
Raw, tight and soulful. And the intensity!

I seen Dexys perform this in 1980 at a club in Liverpool called Gatsby’s where they performed all their up coming Searching for the Young Soul Rebel material, I loved that gig that much I’ve been slightly disappointed ever since and I’ve seen everyone, Kevin’s haunting soulful voice full of angst and despair echoed millions of youths lost in the cracks of Thatcherism and the horn section was fierce as was the Hammond organ

lee harman I second that. Awesome you got to see such a performance. I’ve personally just got into them the past month. Always known come on Eileen of course all my life and loved that track. So glad I’m getting into all their stuff now. Personally for me I love the two albums after searching for the young soul rebels as well... do you think if the band didn’t leave he wouldn’t have changed the sound? I thought maybe that would have happened anyway. Are the performances not as good on the albums after this or is the change of sound you didn’t like? Personally I enjoy it all. Would love to hear your opinion!

Cammy's Comet All their albums were brilliant.I think Kevin would’ve changed direction anyway because you can only keep up being a force of nature and against the injustices of the world for so long or you’d blow a gasket and be no good to anyone, inevitably we get older and cynical once we realise we’re only swimming against the tide politically, as theres no real democracy. So out went the cool On the Waterfront style Marlon Brando esque donkey jackets and beenie hats and in came the Gypsy look complete with neck scarfs and dungarees, I view the second coming of Dexys as a completely different band and vibe, especially having seeing them on The Southport Theatre in 82, rather like the Jam becoming The Style Council etc. Only a few like Madness remained the same. Thanks for your question

Magnificent. Kevin Rowlands is an absolute genius. Just found this and it takes me back to the Davenport Theatre, Stockport in 1982. What a concert.

This is not from the tv-show Måndagsbörsen (which was recorded än broadcasted on mondays), but from another contemporary tv-show, called Bälinge byfest, which was broadcasted on fridays.

Play the video and watch at the bottom right of the screen, 19 seconds in from the start, I actually put the correct name of the show, but for some reason I must have gotten mixed up when I typed the title into UA-cam, its all correct now.
