Love “Down Stand Me Down”, I love to put it on before I go to sleep and listen to it in its entirety. It’s fascinating, I agree that it was the “Pet Sounds” of the 80s.
I agree with Helen about the bonus tracks added to the 1997 Creation records reissue of Don't Stand Me Down. I also disliked that the brilliant 1985 album cover photo was replaced for both of the compact disc reissues.
(27:48m) Sorry to be pedantic Helen, but 'The way you look tonight' wasn't on the 2003 Director's Cut version, it was on the 1997 re-issue. I love TWYLT, but agree that it doesn't fit as part of the DSMD concept. However, I disagree with Helen's assessment of 'Kevin Rowland's 13th Time' - I think it makes a great revised opener for the album and is a welcome addition for me.
Well Chris, yes this is masterpiece of the eighties but not the only sonic all proper instruments and no synths LP, got to include Spirit of Eden as well. Saw Kev's Dexy's last night...still go it but I wish Billly (Kevin) and Helen could be with him.
Beautiful talented woman, so easy to listen to.
I'm so glad "Don't Stand Me Down" exists.
And, I'm glad "This is what she's like" exists.
Even if the world wasn't ready for it at the time.
After all this time, it's great to hear such an intimate insight into one of the best albums ever.

Never would have guessed Steve Martin was a Dexys influence! Thanks for sharing!
Don't Stand Me Down was/is a masterpiece.
Listen to This should have always been the single... It's one of Dexy's finest.

Yeah, Helen doesn't know what she's on about does she...
