Kevin, quick request..... Would you kindly make a night ride video of the new Rattler? "Not" riding in city (with street lamps), but rather in the country so that we can get a sense for the lighting. High and low beams riding down a country road a night. It may help myself and others who dislike the old 35 watt incandescent bulbs. Kind regards.
Here- Here, 35 watt incandescent bulbs are like dinner bells to a pack of Coyotes, but to a couple of drunk Indians fighting beside the general store, it's just a puppy. Good Luck with that. Once Roxanne leaves her stumbling man behind, it is behind you she'll be mounted. The circle of expectations is enough to drive any man insane. Might as well upgrade now. It's better to be known as 'rides with blinding fury' than 'rides like moon light' referring to Roxanne's rear end sticking out the back of your Rattler. Makes sense. A brighter bulb will blind the family of Indians. They'll probably throw some empty beer cans at ya, but it's a better proposition than the ladder.
In my area, there are a lot of people selling 50cc Genuine Rough Houses. Though it's not the same motor, Im hesitant on buying an Genuine scooters. I bought a China made scooter in the past and sold it right away. Not to say that yours won't last, but I'm sticking to Japanese and Italian ones. Thanks for the review. You helped me make up my mind.
Yeah, that last Chinese scooter you bought cost you $1400? or less? I've seen those Scooters, and they are complete crap... the motor looks like the same motor they sell to put on a bicycle. Thin cheap plastic, assembled with self-tapping screws, the gauge of wire used for lights and electrical components way too small, the worst fit & finish you'll see. At the end of the day, most of what you buy has parts from China. Not all of China's products are bad, just do your research first.
I'll bet you the knocking sound in the fuel injector. As they spit gas into the combustion chamber the come on ond off very quickly ( I'm sure you already know this.) As they do you can hear a clicking noise.
Very well could be. That or perhaps just some resonance in the exhaust. I haven’t been able to isolate. Once I figure out how to get my head down there while riding I can find out 😁
I was about to chime in with this explanation as well. It could be because it's a single cylinder engine, that injector sound could seem far more pronounced than on a car engine for example.
Chinese-ium ... never b4 heard that term BUT: "tofu construction" many times. Tnx 4 this revuew. 4 mee: i need larger diameter wheels due 2 poor quality roads here & the motor & CVT sounds would bee a deal braker.
I been researching scooters in this size range for a few months now. I knew the Rattler was not a PGO like the Buddy and Hoodlum 170i scooters. I been lean on getting the Hoodlum because the it is bigger and has the gas tank up front saving more room for under seat storage. I do like the Rattker design better. Luckily a dealer that Carrie’s Genuine Scooters and Honda just just opened near me. The Hoodlum is in the same price point of the Honda ADV and PCX 160’s so I would check them out also. I am down sizing from a 2006 Suzuki Burgman 400 because it is to heavy for me at my age and some arthritis in my hip to balance at a stop. I am 5’ 10” also but at 300 lbs. still haven’t sat or rode any of them yet but look forward to riding a smaller scooter that are supposed to be more fun to ride. Love you reviews on bicycles and now scooters.
31:15 appreciate the detailed overview. I just bought a 2021 rattler it's so cold here I haven't had a chance to drive it yet but I like it and I'm looking forward to it🎉
I have the red one, I have had it for about 2 1/2 years... YOU have an issue my friend, my engine does not sound like that at all, mine is very quiet compared to yours, and I have no knocking, rapping, pingging, or clatter. Also, my CVT is super smooth, with no clunking, whining, or abnormal noises. I like the fact your dealer hooked up the rear turning signals, my dealer only left the front ones hooked up. I can't entirely agree with the ride, it's not as smooth as some other scooters including the Hooligan. Most genuine scooters are built in Taiwan, but for whatever reason this one is built in China and I was a little concerned until I saw the build quality... YES, china can make some really good quality products, and I guarantee that Genuine scooter company would not sell a product that doesn't meet their standards. I paid roughly $3k for mine, the only cons I have are the ride and horn, the front suspension works great, but that mono-shock in the back sucks! Looking for a dual-rate spring adjustable shock I can put on it. The horn, I can put any 12v horn in its place. I'm also 5'10 and this bike is perfect!
Sounds like the valves are set too loose in the sound clip. I have a Vitacci 200i (170cc Lifan engine) that was a bit clicky until I adjusted the valves to clearance stated on the engine plate. Easy to access on the Clash. Mainly went with the Vitacci Clash because of the 14" wheels, Lifan engine, and $1700 delivered price. 3500 trouble free miles so far.
@@KevCentral Id be curious to know what the recommended clearance is on that engine. The plate on my scooter says .06mm to .08mm (.00236"/.00315") for both valves and they are pretty quiet. Initially I set them at .004/.005" and they were pretty loud.
I like the design and look of it,Kev. I'd go silver too. A bit more low-key. I like that shiny black surround on the display. Is there any light reflection problems from that black portion like sun reflection? Hope it lasts you!
I hope we get to see you do a review on the Grand Prix 300S. I want a scooter that I can ride with my friend who ride motorcycles, and it just seems to be what I really want in a scooter. Although, this Rattler 200i seems about there, but not quite fast enough, but I'm not ready to get a motorcycle yet.
It’s nice. I like the design and the good looks ❤yet being Chinese, it raises some flags. Did u mention the price? The noisy cvt drive so noisy it’s a turn off 😢
Great video. My local dealer sells Lance and Genuine. I ended up with a Lance Cabo 200i because I liked the look a little more than the other 200i options. I’ve been extremely happy with it. Does SYM make that engine for the Genuine versions as well? I moved up from a 50cc Yamaha C3, which I still have, but the power of the 200i to get up hills and keep up with traffic makes me never want to ride the C3 anymore.
Yeah. I love the amount of storage the C3 has. It’s just underpowered. I was thinking about doing a 70cc swap and other mods before just deciding to get a new scooter. I bought some cheap saddlebags for the Lance to make up for the loss of space.
Hi Kev! I have the same noise in my rattler as well. I did a valve adjustment on mine at 500mi and they were definitely tight but after adjusting that noise still did not clear up. Took it on a 300mi roadtrip last weekend and it handled cruising at 60 without an issue. Hopefully the noise is a non-issue in the long run. Do you get a lot of vibration through the handlebars? Mine seems to vibrate at a cyclical rate. Smooth then shaky about every 4 seconds.
Thanks for sharing. That makes me lean more towards it possibly being a normal sound for this bike. Someone else mentioned it’s most likely the fuel injection - which makes sense. As far as vibration - other than the slight roughness from the adventure-tread of the tires, no. If you’re having some shake (especially one that comes and goes) I would let the dealer look at it. My biggest complaint is the tires are cheap and have that cheap tire roll. I had what felt like an out of round wheel that was resolved by the servicing dealer with a balancing….interestingly, they didn’t note anything about the balance on the service receipt. If you don’t mind, contact me through my website and we can keep tabs and exchange notes as we go and/or if we run into anything that could be useful info for other Rattler owners.
They call it a "Rattler" for good reason. I like the scooter but not the price or fuel injection. Which to me is overkill on a small engines. Fuel ⛽ 💉 injection on a small engine, is like a Rube Goldberg contraption with 10 or 20 extra parts to replace 1 simple carburetor.
Kevin, you always make informative vids. Nice scooter.(quality), but I am a little disappointed that it is made in China and not Taiwan. Not a fan of their government....

Had this scooter last year . It’s horrible! The way they built the motor they put the spark plug in the bottom front of the motor behind the plastic and mine kept slipping off . Had it for 5 months and was broken down at least 10 times. This scooter does not have PGO quality.
Seems to be well made, but many people assume it’s a PGO like most other Genuine bikes. I hear there’s even a Buick sold in the US that’s made in China
I trust China for scooters. Think about it. Do you see a huge amount of people in the US riding them? No. There’s a ton of people in China who do. The competition between brands alone means it’s probably going to be nice since it’s a big market there.
Hey kev.. I have the opportunity to buy a brand new rattler 200i, in red, for $1,999.. good price? Going to buy or not upon your recommendation.. thanks for the video..
Nice, I looked at the Rattler about 3 years ago. I too liked the styling. The have made some upgrades since then. Good looking

Genuine has a good reputation, I hope they do not start selling inferior scooters because that will be the death of them.

There used to be a Genuine Scooter Rattler 110cc. It was two stroke.
Yep. That’s the Rattler Buck Ten I mentioned. The 50cc variant eventually turned into the Roughhouse R50. Legacy nameplate from Genuine.
The CVT noise sounds like belt slap. Pull the cover off and look for any slap marks.
