      Better to use an MPV or van, the least you have to do is take the front wheel off and you can get two or more bikes in and share the fuel cost.

    I'm not sure if this is off the topic, but I start to consider a "first-aid kit" as a part of my mtb kit. 😳 Learned it the hard way. 😭 (Always thought about the tools I need to repair the bike if I ever crashed, but did not thought about the things I need to aid myself if I crashed along with the bike 😑). Also thinking about adding a bottle of liquor, might help while treating those injuries. 😅

      definitely worth carrying a wad of bandaids ... feet, hands under gloves, helmet, chin-strap ... 2nd day of any trip ... you'll want bandaids : )

      Essentials for Freeriders/dh/downduro; This packs down into a small aloksack, say the size of large pda phone...
      Hemostatic dressing or gauze, ACE wrap/medical tape. Swat tourniquet (so easy to use, no locking windlass so it packs down almost flat) also can double as a compression dressing. Finally a section of SAM splint just for wrist, arms, ankles (mold it and secure with med tape) Throw in 1 or 2 saline amps for washing out eyes or flushing lacerations. Fits nicely in my evoc hip pack. Oh and maybe add some band aids :P

    Liking the choice of transportation Doddy - lovely car's those A4 estates. I currently make do with VW Polo BlueGT just about gets me & bike (29r , I'm lucky as only 5ft 7" so use small/medium frames, take both wheels out) + spare set of wheels + most of the kit you mentioned in for a MTB XC race day....do have done roof bars + bike rack but don't use them all the time as it's s complete pain all the dirt the bike dumps on your nice clean car at times.

    Here's a little tip that I use when I go fishing and get covered in mud, fish etc. Get yourself a hand pump 5ltr pressure sprayer, I bought mine from Screwfix for about £15. Fill it up with your washing solution of choice, bike wash, I just use water with some Fairy liquid. Now with your brush, you can wash the worst of the mess of you, your clothes and your bike before you even put it all in the car leaving you with a lot less mess when you get home.

    Sure I'm not alone in forgetting every piece of possible kit at some point or other so a Dry bag with a full kit (my old stuff) in is always in my van, helmet, shorts, top, jacket, boots, gloves etc, you can have it ready packed and just get into the routine take it with you but only open and use if you forget something. Wet wipes, yep it's not manly but if you've done a long hard ride then it's nice to get a bit clean at the end and those cheap white bin liner bags for dirty washables can be spun and knotted to seal and keep car funk to a minimum.

    That Topeak kit is nice, but if you can't afford it there's plenty of off branded took kits that would help in a pinch. Sure the tools won't be as nice as Topeak or Park, but in a jam do you really care? I take a portable work stand with me too whenever I travel. I'd hate to drive several hours and not have tools or a means to fix my bike. Cheap but effective stands can be had at Aldi.

    this is great but when you share the car with someone (for example your loved one and i m not refering to the bike :P) then you can t have this amount of stuff+liner in the car all the time. Installing all this before every riding occassion would take too much time as well. I usually have a big ikea bag stuffed with tools and riding kit and old rugs for dirt protection then I can carry everything at once with the bike to the car.

    I'm surprised to see doddy put his bike in rear wheel first. I take the front wheel off and put the bike in fork first. This way my dirty wheels are further towards the back of the car. Also, the handlebar can vertically sit down into the rear foot well rather than taking up more horizontal space in the back of the car.

    • @user-yv2cz8oj1k

      Depends on the vehicle, with my MPV it's easier front wheel off and forks facing backwards.

  • @Waremonger
    @Waremonger 6 років тому

    Judging from the rest of the comments I guess I'm in the minority by thinking this is overkill. I go over my bike before I leave, put it on a rack and drive to the trail. If the bike has a mechanical issue while riding I fix it with the small bit of tools I carry in my hydration pack. If the bike is so messed up that I need a full tool kit to fix it I would just drive it back home and call it a day... I do think that liner is a good idea if you absolutely have to put the bike inside the car. @S B
    had mentioned using a shower curtain instead which is a great idea and probably much cheaper.

    • @geemail369
      @geemail369 6 років тому +1

      @@simoncardwell8436 Simply put: cloth n water doesn't do the job!
      But baby wipes (or cosmetic wipes) get rid of mud, muck, grime, grease, chain lube ... you name it, this stuff somehow conquers it all. I don't use'em to clean my bike (once loaded with dirt they're just scratching the surfaces) but for quickly cleaning hands, face n legs these wipes are *THA THANG!* ⚡️☄️⚡️

    Doddy, I have a pretty good kit in my truck for riding, but had a question I wanted to see if anyone had suggestions for. I drive a pickup truck in the US and have a tonneau cover over the bed. This lets me lock all my gear in (and not smell up the car). In the summer it isn't too bad. I open the cover after I ride and let everything get some air. Now that it is raining more (PNW) my helmet, pads, gloves, etc. don't seem to dry out if I leave them in the back of the truck. Anyone have suggestions to get these dry? I would prefer to keep everything together, but have to take them out, hang and dry them etc.

    Bike rack for the rear of the car, so much easier

    Complete overkill. Make sure your bike is well maintained then you don’t need to lump all that shite around in your boot.

    Great video as ever but.... stop saying “trunk” and trying to intersperse American words. It sounds silly. It’s a boot.

      mikieson In the US perhaps, but in the U.K. (where this is filmed) it’s called a boot.

    Way too much stuff. Just put your bike on a rear bike rack, take the bike to a bike shop and the car to a car wash. If anyhow someone is thinking about saving car wash or bike shop expenses, you don't deserve the bike you have. It's way more expensive buying all that stuff you don't ever really need.

      LoL. Some of us dont have a local bike shop. Also some of us would rather do our own maintenance anyways. I'm always laughing at the guy who takes his bike to a shop for a "tune up". If you dont know basic bike mechanics, you dont deserve that bike.

      Oh Mikieson, it wasn't my intention to bother anyone. You're right, there's so much different ways to do the same thing. Different approaches. I'm sorry, I'd just thought it was too much things to put in the cars trunk. 👍
      Dude, Smell My Helmet (LoL, funny name), you're right too. I occasionally do my bikes cleaning and checkups, but having seven bikes in my apartment and some time constraints, I prefer to pay someone to do the job. Anyway, thanks for the heads up.
