This episode is both perfectly heartwarming and heartbreaking. When Ellie and Riley are having the time of their lives playing around the mall and especially the arcade I felt absolutely elated. And I especially loved how this was also a first date between them, even though they didn’t really know it was a date. And then when they finally kissed I couldn’t help but hold my heart because I thought it would burst from pure joy.
And after they both get bit I felt my heart break even harder than in the game. On the “Inside The Episode” after the show they talked about how even though Ellie felt absolutely defeated she still wants to savor every second of time that she has with the ones she loves. And it shows when she is stitching Joel up and the Left Behind theme comes up.
I loved Terry Chen who plays the FEDRA Officer in Expanse aswell. He has this "good guy" vibe.
i think the infected that attacked them was a stalker not a clicker which makes sense why they never would have heard it coming had it not made noise to alert them. this definitely makes more sense than how it happened in the game so props to the director.
Such a perfect episode. The fact that they used the same music from the DLC, especially with the end credits, broke me more than anything else. Pure greatness.
remember, they are in the QZ! it supposed to be safe, and according to Riley, the mall is clear : ) despite it was locked up originally cause of infected.
It's interesting for me at least as someone who's played the game to see how Left behind happens considering I know basically nothing about it outside of Riley, the photo booth and the kiss that's it. Everything else I had 0 idea. I've played Last Of Us 1 and need to get back into it soon but Left Behind I didn't know like 99% of what happens. Great performances by Reid and Ramsey as Riley and Ellie this episode

Another great episode, they did a good job of exploring Ellie's crush on Riley. Bella again did a sterling job at acting but I wasn't so convinced with Storm's portrayal of Riley.
I'll never forget when I first saw the "left behind" DLC on youtube.
When I got to the water gun part and they started talking I had to pause and thought to myself "Ok, I don't want to jump the gun, but this is feeling kinda romantic" Unpaused and they immediately kissed XD

I love watching your reaction videos, they’re fun and entertaining to watch. Of course you can be funny and silly here and there. And so animated 😂 maybe that’s why I enjoy these videos, I’ll always watch your reactions after a show I’ve watched. Especially Star Wars related. Keep up the work and entertainment.
They have squeezed the rest of game one in the last two episodes. Not a lot of real estate but so far they have been crushing the show. Really excited.
It does work, though. Time wise, winter and spring Both take just under an hour to get through, and that's including fight sequences and dying and sneaking around and scavenging. As a show, they should translate with zero problems. (At least I hope so)

Is that a Naughty Dog Easter egg. All the chemistry in this show is as good as the game if not better. They've just hired all the best actors so far so I'm pretty sure it's going to be amazing right to the end now.

Mortal Kombat was supposed to be the game in the game, but Naughty Dog didn't get permission. So they invented a game. Now HBO has rights to both games and that's how it became possible.
Riley chose Mileena in Mortal Kombat 2 and Ellie played Baraka.
Both were Lovers in the game.
Baraka skewered Mileena as finisher. That was the metaphorical endgame. That's how Ellie killed Runner-Riley.
I think it's clear she stabbed her.
That's why Ellie asked Joel in episode 2 what it was like for him to kill an infected, knowing that they once were human. I think she needed a comparison to her own feelings because she couldn't classify them. That's why she tortured and stabbed the stalker in episode 3. She first wanted to see if he felt something and then the anger broke through in her because an infected bit her friend and killed him.
Previous episode, Ellie wanted a sip of liquor from Joel and said "still gross". This was her first time.
The escalator can also be seen metaphorically. No matter how much Ellie runs against it (sometimes everything stays the same, sometimes there are highs), it still goes further and further downhill for her.
Here it is shown no matter Fedra or Fireflys, for both you are just a number. They tell you what you want to hear and what benefits them, to achieve the respective goals. And that the Fireflys accept civilian casualties they showed in episode 1, when the car bomb exploded next to Tess.
I actually thought Ashley Johnson (game Ellie) would have her cameo here. Obviously, this was not the case, but it comes later in another memory.
The option 3 is Ellie be immune and kill the love of her life.

A like for Riley
This episode is great
It was a good episode but the series is slowly fading. From my perspective. The absence of some little more (longer) action is slowly becoming noticeable. Above all, that the infected don't show up at all and if they do, it's only one or a few. (The ending of Episode 5 is the exception so far). Much of the series is mostly just talking and walking. And that's not a bad thing, but it's not in balance with the rest. A little more action specifically with infected ones to show yes they are there and a real threat would do the series just fine I think.
tbh they could have shown Railey turn, and ellie having to face her. they had the chance to show something not in the game, what a wasted opportunity.
It works well without the water fight and chase scene l think and have played the game and the episode is about the characters not action
Between the heartwarming cute moments showcasing Ellie and Riley finally being able to act like kids again for once, if only for a little while...... only to rip it all away again for the seventh time in a row (damn you, show), this never ending River of tragedy that follows Ellie is emblematic of not just the shows central theme but why Ellie continues to fight, to carry on.
It showcases her and Riley on opposite sides of an ideological, real and tribalistic conflict before they lay down their arms and come together to just be close for a little while because they're each others purpose in this moment; a fascinating parallel to the Bill and Frank love story and why it matters greatly when Ellie continues to lose and lose. And now that she does have someone who looks after her, who she can depend on, who matters to them, she’ll be damned if she loses that kind of connection again.
For Riley’s sake and everyone else who died, Ellie will finish this journey……even if it kills her.
Best DLC adaptation
I'm a little disappointed of this one, because of the removal of the arcade scene from the game, one of the most iconic and meaningful scenes that showed Ellie's vivid imagination, which is very much a precursor to another very iconic scene in Part 2. With all the Left Behind references in the previous episodes I also kinda expected to see Ellie having to shoot Riley, but instead they just ended it pretty much like the DLC did, leaving the rest up to imagination.
I'm sure they'll review bomb it though. Bill and Frank were gay too in the game and it still got review bombed to be the worst rated episode.
6:20. I could see there being a side cult in the QZ talking about how being a mushroom is better and finding salvation, and give me a dollar! Is it any different than Christianity or Islam or any of the five hundred thousand other religions where you need to give all your money to?

This episode was fine I felt the same way as I did finishing the dlc although I didn't like some of odd changes like Ellie getting the pun book at the dance floor instead of at the merry-go-round and another one was the masks at the dance floor instead of antiques shop if I remember correctly.
If I was to a bit cynical I say a bit unnecessary like I didn't feel like we need to know how Ellie got bitten.

Loving the show but it needed more than 9 episodes. Ep 3 & 7 are great but have both been kind of surplus to the central story and I do wonder in hindsight whether this has condensed the entire game effectively into 7 episodes. I guess there's a limit to how much budget HBO could realistically throw at Mazin/Druckmann but still, it'll be a shame if this season falls short of greatness just because of this.
I feel that way about ep 7, but not 3 because 3 ended up at exactly the same place as the game by the end i.e. in the truck. All they did was swap a lot of gameplay for the Bill and Frank story, which I’m glad of. 7 was a good ep but how cool would it have been if they dropped it as a surprise bonus episode a couple of months after the finale.
Was this Neils's episode as director😳 not a popular opinion, but this is my least favorite episode, 90% of the time Raily did her lines, it throw me off, had so much hope for this episode, but for me, it was not any good, if they had taken the first 5 minutes and the 5 last minutes and made it a clip before the intro in next episode, would have worked for me too, loved this in the game, just didn't connect with Raily. It is a good part to know Ellie better! for me, it was not well made, every other episode I would give a 9 or 10, Ellie made this a 6 for me, if she hadn't been amazing it would have been a 4 for me
No this is the only episode Neil wrote alone, any other episode Neil has writing credits it is always together with Mazin, here he has some credits for this episode.
Interestingly the episode he directed was 2, that was wholly written by Craig Mazin.
Snooz show, literally. Besides acting I dont see anything interesting here. And wtf is up with Ellie reacting all excited when findin the MK machine on earlier episode?!? It should fill you with sadness and pain after what happened to you!! Show us more actuon, show us the dread and horror of fighting a bunch of damn zombies. The excuse of “zombies are not important duh, it’s all about how people were affected by them and that humans can be just as scary” is a gimmick that can only take you so far. This show is in dire need of action.
