Btw someone recommended doing F2,1 into portal and YES it’s only -4 wtf! That and 2,1,1 into portal are the only ones it works with, but placing a portal and being extra safe? Yes please! You can even sneak in an armoured geyser if you want to be evil
After you set the low water well and the portal... you jump to perform the HP HK LK air combo that make the enemy bounce on the ground, then instead of going for any hit and geyser you use HK and that will make them fly to the other side of the screen, being near the water portal you open behind you.
@@kiwikev1849Any tips on the matchup with rushdown characters neutral-wise? I'm having trouble zoning when a smoke player is teleporting towards me, closing the gap.
@@eybosstry relying on cameos to get you out and your portals you just need to keep pushing him away as much as you can essentially running and projectiling him until you can get an opening with a portal
I think the plan is to just have a portal behind you. Then when you manage to get a combo or knockdown, set a new portal down and then teleport all the way to the back. Once back there, set a new portal back there and start zoning. The pressure will cause the enemy to position themselves between the 2. Please let me know what you guys think. Scorpion Kameo can also help with this setup. Another commenter also mentioned using the roundhouse.
I don't understand how do people plan on zoning as rain, hell.. even Shao and Reiko the heavy hitters are better zoners, both, by the way, completely surpass his watershield rendering it useless. Rain feels like one of the weakest zoners in the game.. his water shield works only against very select few characters, and without it he cant zone because he's too slow
One easy thing to notice as a Rain player is how cautious the opponent begins playing once one portal was out. Has its own little mind game once it’s active, kinda lets you set your game up a bit more. Especially with Frosts low freeze ball
I love rain. My favorite kharacter thematically. But he is so hard to use. I am struggling to learn his moves / kombos effectively compared to the other kast.
You were talking about stuff that makes you side switch but forgot about his roundhouse. Yeah I know it's a bad move but that's something I wanna experiment with when I get my hands on the game. Might try doing your cameo into whirlpool into portal into roundhouse for the side switch
Now that my game has updated, his new gravity in combos let’s you get a lot more roundhouse kicks if you want! I might make a little video talking about these small changes
Somethinf you didn't mention here that I believe I remember you can do (please correct me if I'm wrong) is you can jump in, portal close them, jump attack, use the portal, and immediately jump attack again. Which creates a potential triple overhead situation that you can instantly string into any move creating crazy unique mixups that only Rain can do as far as I know. At least I remember being able to do that when I labbed him briefly. I'm not a Rain main so excuse me if I'm wrong.
rain gonna b one or my mains in this game cant wait until tomorrow to unlock the game!!!! thanks for the tips!!!! gonna use it and add it to my style i loved mk11 rain soo i know ima enjoy this version
Early game with rain I don’t even use the bubble to block projectile and I don’t use the portal. I rarely use the storm ball unless they tryna rush me down as a mix up for zoning
Another thing is that almost all of his strings allow him to set up a portal safely for free. Also an easy way to set up portal is use it as a combo ender, then back dash, as the opponent comes closer they’ll walk past it then you can go in for pressure
I really hope to see someone find some combos and with the meter burn teleport I tried coming up with some stuff but can’t think of anything or at least something with big damage
What about placing a portal before starting corner pressure? If your opponent back throws you or somehow side switches, you can threaten to portal out?
Sorry but portal for pressure is a gimmick unless you some kind of ambush catagory low cameo assist. You literally will never have them in enough block stun to scare them with a high or low mix. And if not in block stun, they have all the time in the world to simply hit you out of portal hop and any stage of the animation. Its actually quite sad tbh. Portal pressure is a gimmick that is working atm because people are respecting it too much. When you see Rain jump through the portal off of a cancel or even in neutral while you are standing near a portal, just visually confirm it and knock him out of it. Its good when canceling into portal summon for frame advantage though.
they both lead to good combos, scorpion gets more damage but cryax has the ability to keep rain more safe or even plus. So my thoughts would be that cyrax is better but they both work well
