- Sonoma County Ghost Town Wingo, California is located just south of Sonoma. In the 1800’s Wingo was a bustling town. Steamships used to transport passengers from San Francisco to Wingo. The San Francisco travelers would then travel by land to the town of Sonoma.

Steamships in Sonoma County
The steam station steamships used to transport people from San Francisco to Wingo, CA was called "Norfolk". Rumor has it that during those days some people used Wingo and Norfolk interchangeably.
The Golden Gate Bridge and Car Culture
During the 1940's people started to leave Wingo. After the Golden Gate Bridge was built, many people stopped using steamboats to travel into Sonoma County. The popularity of American Car Culture coupled with new roads eventually lead to the decline of Wingo.
Duck Hunters and Fishermen
Wingo is still a popular spot for fishermen and duck hunters. I first heard about the town via Instagram from someone paddling their kayak through the area. When I went the water was low but most images that I've seen have higher water.
What happened to the water?
According to Wikipedia a lot of the water in the Wingo area was "diked" to create agricultural areas. This makes sense because half of the road out there is walking next to vineyards.

Dude be neither I live here to I've never heard of the fucking place never been there and I've been deep in this County of course everybody's Ben to the caves and Camp Meeker waterfall but not out there and you know way back past the top of the waterfalls is Charlie Manson one of Charlie Manson's old cabins????? You have to walk deep towards Bohemian Grove any cabins probably aren't there anymore but they were
You just gave me so many vlogging ideas 😱
Thank you for sharing 🙌🙏
@@nochillmustafa hey dude here's a vlog idea.... obviously if you live here you've been out to the coast.... did you know that in the 70s they tried to build a nuclear power plant at the bodega head thankfully Sebastopol stopped it because they wouldn't have the truck the nuclear waste through Sebastopol however the head where the hole is where they were going to build the nuclear power plant is still there you have to walk a little bit to get to it but trust me it's worth it I have a few more hidden gems here in Sonoma County for instance did you know there's a hidden missile base no shit and it's still very active
@@johnhoggan9568 Wait what caves? I live in Novato.
I used to spend duck hunting weekends at Wingo at a friend's 'cabin. Great boyhood memories.
Wingo was used by market hunters in the early 1900s, they'd shoot hundreds of ducks and sell them to the hotels in San Francisco.
Was his cabin shown in this video?
Thank you for sharing 🙌🙏
That's awesome that you were able to experience that. I had no idea that it was used by market hunters. I love when people leave comments about these places because there are a lot of facts that aren't in the history books/articles
I live in Santa Rosa but have never heard of this town...
Same
I'm born and raised in Sonoma county, never heard of the place...
Same here bud
@@caliking2045
Me toooo. 50 years in Santa Rosa. Never knew about this.
Glad you found the channel! There's a lot more coming 🙌🙏

Thanks. I’ll definitely be watching. I subbed. Lovin’ it. 🌺
Went out here spring of 2020 with a couple friends, a couple of modern houses are built behind the town and it seems some families live there. Was exploring the buildings and a kid came up and told us it was all private property his family owned. Still an awesome hike and the walk alone is worth the trip
I think the property is owned by the people that have the nice house adjacent to it but with some of the buildings being renovated, I wouldn't doubt someone purchased some of them.
I think my sister went to a party once out there. I picked her up when she was on one lol 😂
Hahaha oh no!! That must have been her Malibu Rum in there 😂
@@nochillmustafa 😂 😂 haha probably man. She was tripping like Smokey in Friday
@@BobbyRamirez 😂😂😂
Shii tweaking like a chicken that smoked angel dust Lmao 😂
That's funny I know a Bobby Ramirez Sonoma County small place all I remember is good
Wingo is not a ghost town. The land is owned by the State of Califonia and the remaining cabins are leased to individuals. You are trespassing if you enter the cabins and wander around the surrounding area. The land to the immediate north of Wingo is State land and managed by CA. Department of Fish and Wildlife. The properties to the south are privately owned. Please respect the neighbors privacy. Thank you.
Hey Mustafa, who knew? Thanks for going to interesting places in Sonoma County.
Apparently there’s a women who had a shot gun that squatted in one of the cabins. She scared away some curious explorers.
I heard the stories after we went 🤦♂️
There is definitely people living in some of them. There are some that look like they have been somewhat remodeled, new doors, siding, decks etc that had "No Trespassing" signs. We didn't go near those, the only ones shown on here are the ones that had missing doors and were deteriorating
@@nochillmustafa ya, but if you went in to the no trespassing ones and actually found a homeless lady with a shotty, you’d get way more views.
The Winery is Larson Family Winery and it's a great place. I know that road since I used to go there frequently, I never knew there was a ghost town at the end of the road.
The people at Larson were so nice. Thank you for watching 🙌🙏
did u guys get ticks on ur cloths when u went out there .. we did and we drove all the way to the broken barn and tractor 2 days ago it almost all dry now
We were lucky, no ticks. That's crazy you went that far 😱
Nice! I plan to head out there tomorrow!
That’s awesome! Just subbed to you in case you vlog it 🙌🙏
@@nochillmustafa its gonna be the first vlog I've done so it maybe a little rough around the edges. Haha
@@pdvision2194 haha no worries, that's what's great about UA-cam, you can just experiment with everything and see if it hits or not
I was just there today! Actually had to use that toilet paper to clean myself up a little after falling in the sewage dump along the way!!!
Oh noooo!! That's horrible 😂 Glad you were able to make it out there. Who knows how long it will be around 😔
It’s swamp land and not for people to be wondering about in.
I've never heard of it I live in Petaluma
My guess is that the dude walked in the building breathing those fumes well if you're from around here you'll know...... I'm just saying
How nice. I went out there way back in 2007 before railroad service was started again. However, my video camera was this ultra cheap piece of crap with terrible audio quality. Too bad you missed the dilapidated Southern Pacific Railroad swing bridge just a short distance to the north of the town. The history is connected with an early attempt at constructing a steam monorail from Wingo to Sonoma so that they had access to a steamboat to San Francisco. At the time I was there, a person lived in Wingo according to a nearby family.
Thank you Fredrick! I’m actually a fan 🙌🙏
I subscribed to your channel a while back and love your content + knowledge of history at all the places you explore.
When I first heard about Wingo I had seen some images and articles but I was not sure if I could make it to Wingo. After I saw your video I decided to go and see if there was anything left.
Thank you for all your great content and motivation, I’m looking forward to seeing your future adventures 🙌🙏
@@nochillmustafa As a critique, when you visit a place like Wingo, you should be in the video only about 5% of the time. 95 percent of the video should be about the town, not about you.
My husband used to hunt ducks and geese there
That's awesome, it's the perfect place for it
It’s called the tide.
What a messed up name for a town
🤘🏽🤘🏽
So many accidents on highway 12
Soooo many accidents there, I try to avoid highway 12 as much as possible.
20 miles away
Beautiful area!
@@nochillmustafa indeed it is!
Thanks for not starting your video with “what’s up.”
I HATE the "yooo what's up it's ____ here" haha. I'm pinning the comment to the top. Thank you for watching 🙌🙏
Why do a video only showing the dude ? Show landscape instead of you ,,,; dissapointing
Thanks for the feedback Steve, I'll make sure to get more landscape shots next time 👌
Sorry you didn't enjoy the video but thanks for watching 🙌🙏
What is this Haystacks Landing?
It's not but I heard Haystacks is haunted. I would love to vlog there!
That place creeps me tf out! We used to go up there all the time before the main house burnt down and it was spooky . It’s still a creepy place despite the house no longer being there. And it’s even more disturbing that pretty much directly across on the other side of 101 is a memorial to plaque for Georgia Leah Moses. A 12 year old girl who was m*rdered and dumped there. They still haven’t solved that poor girls case.
Crazy ! Lived in the area almost my whole life & never heard of it
There’s a few of them, unfortunately most of them burned down 😭
