Surfside Collapse Air Pockets Visualization | Champlain Towers Condo Miami Florida [8K]

  • This video follows up on our earlier simulation of the Champlain Towers South collapse in Surfside, Florida ( • Condo Collapse Simulat... ). It demonstrates the formation of air pockets within the collapsed structure allowing to identify potential zones of interest for search and rescue teams to plan escape routes or adopt first aid strategies for the rescue of victims.
The simulation result can be post-processed to visualize cavities within the debris heap. In this analysis empty space is represented by color-coded bubbles allowing the assessment where big enough air pockets for survival may possibly have formed.
Even though the initial distribution of the dummy dolls has been randomized and thus they cannot be used to trace back the fate of individuals, it can be observed that most of them ended up in very dense areas with very little chance of survival.
The authors hope to not distress relatives of victims with the application of dummy dolls in this simulation that have the sole purpose of tracking victims in potential cavities within the debris.

Even if there were possibly air pockets, the damage of how this building collapsed was enough to crush these poor souls so severely on impact. Loss of limbs, blood and time played a huge factor for anyone to even survive that 😔

That is an absolutely terrifying graphic. I've done trench and building collapse for my fire district and the county team. Have had the displeasure of doing 2 recoveries in what might be considered 'soft' dirt. The victims were in bad shape in just a few hours. I cannot imagine, and really do not want to, think about the condition of these poor people in the middle of a concrete sandwich like this.

But the problem with your narrative is that they were standing on the pile - and doing nothing but looking down while one or two dogs sniffed. And the ocean side of the collapse would have been sufficiently far away from the remaining structure even if that collapsed. And they weren't frantically desperately searching there. And finally, they did have people on the rubble doing some stuff - and before the other building was brought down - I saw video of the Army Corp of Engineers brought in on the fifth day. Well before the standing section was demolished. They may have been skewed towards the ocean side, bit there were units on that end - 12 floors of them.

The young man whose grandparents were sleeping together in bed, he received 16 phone calls from the land-line of his grandparents. The linear phone was next to their bed, as he remembered. But when he responded to the calls, it was only static noises. Probably one of the grandparents was still alive and typed the number repeatedly. It lasted 3 days, then the number did not call anymore. The linear phone likely was broken and could not record the voices, but possibly the caller could hear their grandchild.
When I think about this story, I feel really strange. It's so scary, because I think at least one of them was alive. Linear phones tend to continue working as long as the phone line is not broken, because it transport its own current.

I believe the families were communicated too with honesty. But you have to gently lead people through this very emotional process. You can't anger people by saying we are going straight into recovery mode. They need to come to their own acceptance of the reality of the situation, before they are going to tell you, you can stop searching for survivors. And all credit to the officials leading this, they did give the families time to come to terms with the situation. Imagine if they had gone straight into recovery mode and had the site cleared sooner, that would have been unbearable for the families. My heart goes out to everyone involved.

I do think they could’ve called it a bit earlier, but I don’t think they wanted to do that to the loved ones, and it’s the right thing to do. Although many of them held on to hope, they knew what they were dealing with. The mind kicks in to protect itself at that point. Bless them all.

At least this means a lot of them died pretty damn quick. I.E. A concreet sandwich that dense would kill most people in moments, if not immediately. First the interior view, and then the outside blue-terraces and peel-away make that clear. Scant comfort for those who where not swiftly killed though. From what I could find, only three people emerged from the rubble still breathing.

It looks like something that took a lot of time, effort and computational power to create, and I can appreciate that. Not sure the severed limbs depictions were necessary though. "...those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? *No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”*
These are Jesus words. He is not saying that all those who don't repent will have a building fall on them, He is saying that unless you repent, your eternal end will be just as tragic and devastating as their temporal end (eternal torment/the Wrath of God against you forever).
The Wrath of God will be worse than a building falling on you. *But God so loved the World, that He gave His only begotten Son that any and all who believe (trust) in Him shall have eternal life...* *John 3:16*
It is not God's desire that any should perish, but that all should come to a knowledge of repentance... 2 Peter 3:9
Jesus paid for your sins on the Cross. That debt was freely paid for all who repent (forsake) their sins and turn to Him as there Lord.
Today is the day of salvation! Why should we perish. Repent and Live!!!
