Survivor’s guilt is a difficult thing to live with. Please know you are a human being and were in a horrifically unnecessary situation. I hope everyone is getting help of some kind. 🙏

They can award $1 billion, but does the building insurance or the building owners even have that money? If they are already bankrupt, or the policy had a cap well bellow a billion, who pays?

Reinsurance is insurance that an insurance company purchases from another insurance company to insulate itself (at least in part) from the risk of a major claims event. With reinsurance, the company passes on ("cedes") some part of its own insurance liabilities to the other insurance company. The company that purchases the reinsurance policy is called a "ceding company" or "cedent" or "cedant" under most arrangements. The company issuing the reinsurance policy is referred to as the "reinsurer". In the classic case, reinsurance allows insurance companies to remain solvent after major claims events, such as major disasters like hurricanes and wildfires. In addition to its basic role in risk management, reinsurance is sometimes used to reduce the ceding company's capital requirements, or for tax mitigation or other purposes.

@AJ XOXO that was layman’s term, you need it in baby terms

@AJ XOXO ok so you know how normal people have insurance to pay for unexpected expensive stuff? Well insurance companies also have insurance to pay for unexpected expensive stuff.

@AJ XOXO it offers more coverage but definitely not more affordable it’s gotta be thousands of dollars a month

I hate to correct you, but the deadliest accident not connected to terrorism in US history is the sky walk collapse of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kansas city.

It's not really the deadliest structural collapse in American, just the 2nd deadliest. The first, of course, is the 1981 collapse of the double deck skywalk at the Hyatt Crowne Plaza in Kansas City, which killed 140 people immediately.

Building was built that same year. Talk about a coincidence damn

@@GRANDTHEFTBATO , I believe that buildings built 1975 - 1985 are some of the shoddiest ever. There was so much corruption in building and in the building trades, and a lack of concern for quality.

Whatever happened to the "raw" video of the collapse (not the copy that we see) and other videos on the premises? No investigation or not public? I would think it would have helped in the NIST investigation.

As I'm reading the comments below, I can't help to think that most people don't know how a building of this magnitude could do what it did. The amount of planning that is necessary in order to put together a Complex like this take years upon years. It can get even more complicating when contractors pull out in during the building phase.

To this day, the builder’s surviving family has made zero effort to console anybody. Try reaching Miami Attorney Mark Meland, late builder Nathan Reiber’s son in law: he has imposed a total gag order on his entire family to say nothing. Reiber pocketed about $23,000,000 from Champlain Towers South. How incriminating is that?

man just like that all these normal people took accountability like it was their fault for not saving others but it was the poor construction of a building it was the people who built it is at fault
