For me the 76 Euros was the most enjoyable tournament l ever saw. There were no weak teams, it was the era of total football, the games just seemed to get better and better and the best team won the trophy. The other plus for me as an England supporter was not having to watch them aimlessly lofting balls in the air and failing to string together more than three passes. Don’t remember how physical this game was.
Indeed, a classic tournament with every match going to extra time and 19 goals in 4 matches. Every game was played with skill and a desire to play football, attack and score - and there were good players in abundance. The Yugoslav crowds applauded every move and counter-move and everyone had a really good time. As Vaclav Jezek the Czech manager said, ‘Football was the real winner.’
In the semi-final of Euro 1976 against the Netherlands, Ondrus faced Cruyff. It is obvious that the two players do not have the same status and yet Ondrus will make the Batavian attackers bite the dust on that rainy night of June 1976. His gait unsteady with his bowed legs, the Czechoslovak captain is an intractable defender, mechanical or even stiff on the ground. Taller than his opponents, he does not rely solely on his physique to dominate his opponents, a former quality center forward, he has a taste for spectacular gestures and does not hesitate to project himself forward always with panache. That evening it was this recital which delivered to disgust the Dutch who fell 3-1 with an opening score signed by Ondrus himself with a nice headbutt for this master of the air: he scored a goal in the 19th minute and he scored an own goal in the 77th minute, without consequence. Czechoslovakia wins 3 goals to 1 and qualifies for the final.
I was there watching the best player of all time live.
Congratulations!
But it certainly wasn't his night. Anyway - though his impact on the game is incomparable, as a player he often acted in a very distructive way. He was much more a "primadonna" than a teamplayer. This game is an outstanding example.
For me this game remains very special as is it happened exactly one week after my birth!
@@clemensgruber7278 Unfortunately Cruyff went missing for Holland as he often did around this time.

Krijg sterk het vermoeden dat Neeskens een of ander pilletje had genomen voor wedstrijd 😂
THERE WAS SOME BRITISH PARTICIPATION CLIVE " THE BOOK " THOMAS THREATENING TO ABANDON THE MATCH JACK TAYLOR HAD TROUBLE WITH CRYUFF AND THE DUTCH IN 74 AND HAD TO SHOW CRYUFF A CLENCHED FIST
la Tchecoslovaquie future championne d'europe avait fait une grosse demi finale face aux vice-champions du monde neerlandais.
I see about 8 tackles that would be a red nowadays.
Ya conocí al papá de los holandeses
Así como Italia es la pesadilla de Alemania , creo que los checos son la de los Holandeses
IT WAS THE CHANCE OF JOHANN CRUYFF AND HIS GENERATION ON DUTCH TOTAL FOOTBALL, BUT 😢 THEY WERE UNLUCKY AGAIN WHEN THEY FACED THE MIRACLE OF CZECHOSLOVAKIA AND UNFORTUNATELY 😢 THE DUTCH TEAM WAS KNOCKED OUT..
5:32-5:42 1:1 Ein Wundertor von Johan Cruijff (Niederlande / The Netherlands)?? It was an own goal from Ondrus (Czechoslovakia)!!
Correct. But after slowmotion he finally realized that it had been an own goal. There are videos online where you can hear that😀
o.g. by keeper, surely. Ondrus' clearance came back of crossbar and bounced in off Viktor's head. 😅
very rough game. fouls, injuries and free kicks all the time. 10 men chechz beat cruyff's netherlands!! the final of chechz against w germany was a much better game
This is rugby 🏉 match not a football ⚽️ 🤔.
