- See the fascinating Košice to Maťovce Russian gauge railway as a passenger travelling in a tiny four wheeled rail bus, dwarfed by a massive twin unit Škoda electric freight locomotive at the head of a rather unusual train running next to Diesel Locomotive - No.T478.1201 on the parallel standard gauge line that shares the formation over much of the route to the Ukrainian border.

What a great video. Wow the race is on... I can almost here them trains saying, "I know I can do it-I know I can do it" as they went up that incline.. hmm like the little train that could story. Really liked this one and the views of the other train and the riders admiring your train as you admired theirs as well. Wander if any of them are making videos of their trip like you? Would like to see there videos of your train going by. What an adventure and trip you've had. Will be looking for many more this coming year. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed this trip, it was very unusual and a lot of fun. It reminds me of the words from a song "watching you, watching me". I haven't seen any video taken from the other train showing the one we were travelling in. I am off travelling in a few weeks time, during which I won't be able to post videos, but hopefully I'll capture some interesting stuff. All the best. Tim.

Hello Anjali, the two little red carriages were self powered using an underfloor engine, they returned to Kosice under their own power, because the electric locomotives did not have the correct couplings fitted at both ends. They are normally fitted with special couplings for the freight trains they haul. It was a very unusual experience enjoyed by everyone including the railway staff. I enjoyed a good Christmas with my family and I am looking forward to some interesting trips next year. Best wishes and a Happy New Year. Tim.

I did not realize that the standard gauge train was a companion railfan train until this video. That was neat that both were run concurrently.
Hi Roy, I don't know how the Railway Touring Company manage to arrange these often one off tours, but I am glad they do, they are fun. The nice thing is that the railway staff also enjoy them, I guess it is a lot different to their normal days work.

Interesting to see the two gauges side-by-side, at a glance they both look the same width but actual measurement would tell a different story. Cheers, Tim! Happy New Year!
You'd have to actually get a tape measure laid across each set of tracks to determine the width(gauge) of the tracks. I don't know if just looking at the locos and rolling stock would give any obvious visual clues though.
I'd be hard put to tell the size of a loco beyond, perhaps its length, if one end of two locos were lined up, one will appear longer, and perhaps also a little taller than the other, but if I were looking at the two locos front-on, only the varying heights would be the most obvious. The difference in width would be hardly noticeable, unless I were to measure it, I'd notice the difference then. Thing is, height, width and length of one loco mat vary markedly compared to another that ran on the same gauge of track, let alone one that ran on a broader gauge(like the Russian gauge). It would vary from model to model by the same maker, as it would between various makers of locos intended for the same gauge of track, let alone the different gauges.
