- I never thought i'd see the day the game gets shut down but yet here we are. I remember playing it a LOT as a kid and this whole thing still doesn't feel real.
Thank you JumpStart Games for my childhood, thank you for keeping it up for all those years even though it wasn't worth it. You will be missed dearly.

Pretty long story ahead.
I started playing this game when I was quite young. It was never my most played game, my favorite game, or even a game I was good at, but I loved it.
In the game, my very first Dragon was a Deadly Nadder. She was purpleish blue, and I called her Comet, because she looked like a galaxy to me, and I was a nerdy kid in my space obsession era. And even though I wasn’t ever the best at the game, I adored her. At school, when I was at recess, I would pretend we were flying together and having adventures. It was probably a bit weird, but I really cared about Comet -to the point where she was an imaginary best friend of mine. I would watch the movies over and over and imagine what it would be like if we were in it together, going on adventures with the rest of the protagonists.
I think the first fanfic I every wrote was a retelling of the first movie with us as secondary characters, even if it was scrawled messily on what was supposed to be a math notebook, and was admittedly pretty bad, seeing as I was very young.
Eventually I got older, and school got more difficult, and I slowly I stopped playing, and the old story I wrote got misplaced, but I still used up my free time thinking of dragons and flying with Comet. Even when I inevitably deleted the app, I still remember drawing her in the margins of my math books.
Now the app is gone, and if Comet’s data even still existed all these years later, it’s gone now. I honestly wish I had played this more while I had the chance. It’s maybe a bit embarrassing to admit, but comet was probably one of the best stories I ever wrote for myself, and I’ll miss her, and every amazing memory I had during my short stint of playing this game.
Bye Comet, and bye school of Dragons. You inspired me to write and express myself through my imagination and art. I’ll miss you :)
I abandoned my first account on the game since i forgot the password sadly
but the second account i made, i didn't get too attached to my first dragons, oh no
i got the most attached to the dragon you see in the video, Tsere
he was my very first dragon i maxed out, he was my favourite deathgripper and he was the very first dragon i made a titan
later on i got attached to some of my other dragons too (i fed them all to be happy and fed and flew some time with all of them before the final minutes mark struck :) ) But that deathgripper? he was still my favourite, i loved him with all my heart, i loved flying with him, even racing even though he wasn't a good dragon for racing, we've been through so much together it was sad to see him go
i now just hope he'll take care of my other favourite dragons and protect them all in the hidden world :)
I had a nadder named Goldie, and as her name implies, she was golden. I had many alts, often forgetting my passwords to the point where I had 5 + my original and my current main, so I had lost attachment for most of my "new" dragons, including Goldie. There was one starter (also a nadder) that I had kept attachment to, however. I forgot her name, but she was the one I invested time into to try and prepare her for racing. She was the first one I got a saddle for. I really loved her, but I forgot my password again and could never see her afterwards. Because it was "just a game," I didn't cry.
I've never cried over a game until 2 days ago, when the shutdown actually took place.
I'ma be honest, I couldn't even bring myself to play that day.
I saw a comment the other day that said "My dragon would rather sit beside me in the halls of Valhalla than sit in a cavern with no sunlight" and I agree.
I'd like to believe that the time has come for our dragons to leave us and go to live in the Hidden World.

i know it's just colorful pixels on the screen but i've grown so attached to them... even now my brain is STILL refusing to accept the game is gone for good

@@dentangaji6161 from what i've heard, a bigger company bought JumpStart (the company behind the game), basically took away Neopets (the game they were profiting from) to themselves and left Jumpstart to bankrupt, since School of Dragons didn't bring them any profits, only loss, so the company shut down on the 30th and so did all of their games too

School of dragons was my childhood, I remember playing it when I was little. I really wish I could’ve been on my old account one last time, see my old dragons, old friends, but I lost it years ago, and had to use a new one

SoD has been good to us, no matter how many people think that it’s a pile of trash. This game is a kid, huddled in a corner, on a bed, on the floor, waiting anxiously for the dragon to catch its tail and Stormfly to finish eating her chicken.
No matter how far we grow, know that our dragon still soar the vast terrain of the hidden world, their saddles burdened from their back, still singing the soundtrack, School, and no matter the barriers, our good dragons that filled our heads with dreams of soaring know that their unforgettable melody will reach our hearts.

in my opinion, school of dragons was the good kind of broken
some of the glitches i've experienced over the years were incredibly fun (like "flying" speed stingers and going under the map), it was a broken mess, a FUN broken mess, even though many people hated the game for having too many glitches, i still loved it
i'll miss this game and the many glitches it had.. :(

a bigger, chinese company took Neopets away from them and they just don't have any money left to host games, SoD didn't bring them any profits for years and honestly it's a miracle it even stayed online for that long
though i've heard some people are trying to revive the game AND there's a group on discord that's trying to remake the game from scratch so the hope isn't lost just yet :)

I will miss that dragon world so much. 😭 I was also there until the end and doing the very last battle and flying through the sunset for the very last time was just so sad. 😢 And then we all said our very last goodbyes in the chat and then got logged out. 😖 It still doesn’t feel real. But I’m glad we all have good memories from the game, because they will be in our hearts forever. And I’m happy for our dragons that they are free. 🐉✨❤️
I used to play this game when I was a kid back in the day when I was a 6th grader, now a freshman in college and I thought about revisiting my good old dragon friends, was devestated that I can't anymore. Never knew they shut down the servers. Really it's really sad.
I tried to do the final quest to see planned content, but I was cut off midway through. It's alright though, because I had just spent the last few moments laying waste to the final ship from the back of my first dragon. I was determined to go out on his back, just as I had taken the first steps of my adventure. We weren't in flight, but we were one.
I spent the month willing myself to play for the sake of taking screenshots of every single dragon I owned (over the course of many hours per day played), made it online on the night of the 30th with time for a few final races and dragon hatchings, the customary side-by-side shooting, and the final ship battle. In the end, the game shut down with my viking on the back of their first partner. All in all, while I wish that I had played just for fun more frequently through June, I still got what I dearly wanted.
All in all, I feel comforted, and I hope others accomplished such a feat as well.

I was there, it fr made me cry. I will miss this, I decided to switch between all my dragons, saying goodbye to them all because I have a unhealthy obsession with them and think they have feelings- I drew all my dragons and my viking all together during this time and before. School of Dragons has left a permanent scar on me for shutting down.

Never played this game, but I had a similar experience when the mobile game Dragalia Lost was shut down... so many memories, so many friends made, so many characters introduced, and the story hit so damn hard at the end. And now it's just gone. You can still go into the app (if you have it downloaded, it's been renoved from the playstore), but it's just a title screen and music. Not even an end of service announcement anymore :( and funny enough, this game was also about dragons (not completely, but they had a big part in the story). Man it hurts to see things like this go. I almost regret that I was never able to play School of Dragons (never even heard of it till now). My condolences to all of you.

I remember this game. I remember when I first started playing those many years ago. I remember my dragons very faintly, it pains me to see this game go. Alas, till the gates of Valhalla dear friends, our dragons lie safe now in the hidden world. Do not fret, once the time comes we will reunite once more.

i never got to properly play this game as a kid but, i finally got to play it during its final 6 months. I wanted to log back in for one final time but I was too late. I never got to say my final goodbyes to my precious dragons. The game may be gone but, my love for it will never disappear. I had lots of fun playing it for the entire month until its final moments. We really miss the game 💔💔

I was online at that time too, extremely sad...
but I unentrentionally managed to wake up just on time (it was 9.30 of the morning in 1st July for me) to meet a bunch of random people with their starter dragons, we had a little goodbye flight together.. and I was lucky to be there to see my dragon's and SoD's last 10 Minutes of life😭

Ive been playing this game since release day in 2013, i was 12 when i started playing i had over 200 dragons and actually just got the year long membership in december for Christmas, my first dragon was a zippleback named Art and Apo as in Artemis and Apollo i played for a long time until my school email was deleted a few years later but i made a second account where i had the membership and my first ( and favorite ) Dragon was a Skrill named Krystal, she was purple and pink and was my everything, i had other dragons that i will mis dearly like my Timberjack ThornSplitter or my Hobgobbler Spiffy but Krystal was my favorite dragon of all time, i loved matching her with my Skrill armor colored like her and just adventuring with her through everything till she was a titan...i miss her so much...i hope she doesn't miss me to much in the hidden world and that shes with her mate my ex partner's ( but still best friend ) Bonenapper Hades

Dam, I've olayed it long ago and didn't go further because of, you know, gems and etc. I just moved to actual games.
I were playing long before steam version(?), the game version in the web. My first version was on my phone because I didn't seek for games on PC(cuz just didn't knew about them).

very long story.
I started playing this game in 2018. My first dragon was a Shock-jaw, I can't remember her name which makes me really sad because I loved her so much. I still remember it clear as day though. I played this game daily on my mothers PC as I didn't have my own. The PC started to work less and less little by little every day though over the last 6 years. I remember working for money so I could buy gems and the Light-fury and Night-fury. I eventually earned the money and bought the gems and the Light-fury and Night-fury and other dragon eggs that were only attainable by having gems. I remember at that moment I said to myself that I would play this game everyday for the rest of my life (I was young obviously I wasn't going to do that) and so I played everyday for another 3 years. So it would've been 2021 and I was still playing. But then I joined my secondary school and I couldn't play everyday anymore. Joining my secondary school limited my time on the PC as I got home at 7. So I could only play on the weekends. My mum started to sign me up for some Chinese classes, and as I was getting older and more independent I hung out with my friends more and started to do other things. At this point I rarely played, I only played like two times a month. I stopped playing completely.
Jump forward to five months after the announcement of the game shutting down (I don't know that it's shutting down), I re-watched all the films and I remember the game. So I text my friend, who is also a huge httyd fan 'hey let's play school of dragons again'. And I remember the moment my heart sank as I read the words 'It shut down' on my phone. I felt a bit empty since I read that message because a huge chunk of my childhood is now lost forever. It makes me super sad because I still don't know the reason behind this. This next bit will sound a bit weird (as if I'm acting like its a person), but I never had the chance to spend time before it shut down with my dragons. I still remember that I have a baby Screaming-death, Hobble-grunt waiting to grow up, I guess they'll never get the chance. I don't like to say it but I did have a favorite, it was a titan sentinel, I can't even remember its name which makes me super sad. Does anyone else feel like they let their dragons down? Because I know that I do and did.
To add to this I remember the reason why I really stopped playing. It was because I was stuck on this one quest, and I didn't feel like I was moving forward in the game. So I just decided to give up on it. I really do feel sad that I don't give the game another chance. I still remember that I din't unlock all the islands. I wonder what they were like and what i could find on them. I remember my favorite place was the Hidden World, I loved seeing my sentinel's color's glow. Anyways, I am so grateful that I even got to play in the first place. I will miss this game now and forever. Thank you SofD for everything, i made an immeasurable amount of memories with you and I will continue to cherish and hold them close to my heart. And a final thank you.

Seré sincero hace años que no toque el juego pero si le tenía bastante cariño, probablemente no me relacione tanto como la mayoría acá, pero entiendo ese sentimiento, es parecida como cuando de enteras que una de tus sagas de película favorita se volvió feminista de golpe arruinando esa magia que te atrapaba antes, si no quieren sufrir más mejor es rezar para que Dreamworks olvide esa idea del live action de como entrenar a tu dragón.

there's a discord server full of fans that's planning on remaking the game from scratch and hopefully it'll be out by 2026, not too long ago they posted proof of 3D models and concept art they have so far so its pretty safe to say work on the project is slowly starting

i think my games glitched, I can still play even though its shut down?
that would be impossible, the servers hosting the game and all its data are offline, are gone, meaning all the data has been erased from existence and the game cannot possibly run since you had to be connected to the internet and therefore to the servers all the time
the fans have not made any private servers yet either so
@@Krillvern I honestly don't know, it allows me to join, but theres just extra glitchy-ness.
My account still works fine, and my dragons are all still there.
