NFL Film Breakdown: How the Chicago Bears Defense Confuses QBs into Making Mistakes and Taking Sacks

  • The Chicago Bears defense is beating up on people this year. They're confusing QBs, forcing them to make mistakes, and are getting sacks from guys like Khalil Mack and Akiem Hicks. It's in large part due to their secondary and some simple but effective scheming from Pagano. The Bears use a lot of Cover 1 Robber and safety rotations to cause quarterbacks to think and process after the snap. This time gives the defensive line more time to get to the QB and can also lead to turnover opportunities in the secondary. Eddie Jackson plays the robber role perfectly and has forced the ball outside to standout corners Kyle Fuller and Jaylon Johnson. While the Chicago offense has its ups and downs, the defense is definitely championship caliber.

For sure. Glad you enjoyed it. They’re a fun team to watch. At least on one side of the ball

@@WeeklySpiral Haha, what's new? Even the 85 Bears had a pretty average offense!

Their defense didn't do too great against the Rams, they were a penalty machine.

Definitely some undisciplined play with the penalties but execution-wise they did pretty well until about half way through the 3rd quarter. Just got gassed. Props to the Rams defense for absolutely shutting down anything the Bears tried to do on offense.

@@WeeklySpiral Johnny Hekker and special teams had a great night aswell. Except for Sloman, who got put on waivers after that blocked FG.

Hekker is unreal. He’s the kind of special teams player Bill Belichick would talk about for 15 minutes in a press conference haha.

Rams D is next on the list for defensive breakdowns. The Seattle game in a couple weeks will be a great test for them so might not be done until after that or the Tampa game, but I'll be starting to pull clips and chart things for them this week.

I think it would be cool to do a follow-up video to XAVIEN Howard and how he progressed from his 2018 campaign. He has been forced to play more press man to man and has be excellent this year! And maybe show that man on the other side byron jones some love to! Keep up the amazing content.

That'd be cool to look at. Definitely want to revisit some Miami players. Both Xavien and Gesicki seem to have taken some good steps forwards this year
