Nope, nope, nope!! LOL. I don't do creepy AND I don't do lots of stairs, so not for me! I appreciate you as a content creator though, so I watched this! ;) IF I went, I would have spent time reading all the comments in the visitors log, I think that's cool. Ok. This station definitely warrants a revisit. Like who are these 22 passengers that keep this station open? And why exactly is the the tunnel so deep? I was half expecting the catbus to pull into the station and whisk you away to another dimension.

    • @G1NZOU
      @G1NZOU 4 роки тому +73

Apparently the tunnel is so deep cause it was originally built as an alternate route in 1931, tunnel construction improved the journey time between Niigata and Tokyo by 4 hours since trains no longer needed to go through the Usui Pass.
It's pretty much cause that deeper rail line starts off lower at each ends and you don't want to be climbing steep grades with trains if you can avoid it, while the ground level station seems to be a more local line.

@@G1NZOU That's not the full story though.
Both the surface and the underground tracks at this place are the 4 hour shortcuts. But the older one climbed a bit higher before tunneling through, hence it is still at surface level.
The tunnel however is single track, and as train traffic grew they build a second newer tunnel that was lower down and don't have to climb as high as the old one.
Both tracks serve the same line. The underground platform and track in the tunnel serve northbound trains. The surface platform and track serve southbound trains.

They're real and they make me realise that this is what life really is like sometimes, some things just aren't as scary or spooky as you expect them to be, and that's ok! Instead of having that excited spooky feeling from watching this i was more intrigued, which is refreshing. Keep up the good work and stay real!

My second night in Japan I went up the nearby Mt. Tanigawa alone and slept in one of the few ski cabins. Rained all night and heavy fog, was super eerie up there alone. Hiked down in the morning, washed in the river at the bottom of the valley and took a train to Joetsu from Doai. I'll never forget my second day in Japan. All by chance I went there, to Doai. Great day.

I think the fact that it's isolated makes me want to go there whenever I feel like the city life is suffocating me. I would probably bring a friend but I think going alone would also be an experience. After all, it is normal to fear the unknown but that is what makes it equally exciting!!

Superbly edited, great choice of BGM.
You are definitely taking it up several levels this season already.
It looks like something out of a post-apocalypse video game :-)
    More, please!

Doai station is a FASCINATING little anachronism in, not only Japan, but the world at large. Such a unique station for such a specific and small purpose; I’m so intrigued by the people who use it with any frequency (and I’d also love to visit as a tourist)

Love these kinds of video man! Gotta say your videos are true art man! I love your filming techniques and the way you capture Japan in its natural state! Makes me feel like I'm actually there! I really thought that this was going to be a urban exploration type of video but all in light... It was just a visit to a Train Station lol!

Oh I am so absolutely in love with this. I've done urban exploration (exploring abandoned buildings and tunnels just like this) since I was a teen and I've always had a massive interest in similar places in Japan because they're so unique. I'm sooo happy you're showing this side of Japan, I want to go there so bad!
There's nothing frightening about this to me although I understand the spook factor for some people. I just love to see nature taking over these places with the plants overtaking the space and the moss reaching the ceilings in the tunnels. Man, I hope you do more of this!

It was really down to the judgement of the surveyors who did this line.
The above-ground segment was originally constructed as a single track main line; the second track was added in the 50s.
Closer to Yubiso station, the above ground track actually has a helix that goes partially above ground and underground for a good length of its course.
The challenges of building a mountain railway.

abandoned properties in almost any area in japan have an eerie quality to them that is almost indescribable - probably because of how they almost always look untouched (i.e. not destroyed by vandals) and frozen in time. doai is so huge it could be an underground (of sorts) city. my first glance impression was that this was very bomb shelter-esque. very interesting and unique video !

Hey norm! I finally made it to japan and will be here at least a year . I already started vlogging but I need some tips! How do you get so comfortable in front of the camera! 😫 please!

    • @TokyoLens
      @TokyoLens  5 років тому +4

      Welcome!!
I’ve 100% definitely mentioned this a bunch of times, but there are 2 things I always recommend:
      1. Start making videos like 6 months to a year before you make any you want to post!
It will teach you more than I can here
(I don’t talk about it much, but I made videos every single week for over a year before starting UA-cam)
But since it’s a bit late for that
      2. Forget about the camera or ppl
Imagine looking into the lens that you are speaking directly to either
      - your best friend
      - your closest family member
      - your future self
The second you think about “viewers” the stress hits and you lose
It really comes down to practice. Very few things are natural from the start 😊
      Hope it helps

Pretty much abandoned train station in Japan: clean windows; working lights; aesthetically pleasing decay and moss; train still stops there.
Any public transport 2000 km Southwest of Tokyo: filthy peeling paint; signs are out of date; lights have been broken or stolen; cigarette butts, feces, spit; transportation may never arrive.
Why do I live here? 😭😭
