@h.purchase Ah, I see! Thanks :) From the tutorial, I got that it would change it when I did the mapping code (too used to CSS changing things with code)
Thanks so much for this! I want to redirect pages from one website to a newer website of mine. Is that possible with 301 redirect? Or is 301 only for within the same domain?
Hey great video bro, one question, do i have to do a 301 redirect if I change the slugs for each page before I submit my website to google search console and submit my site map?
Hey Henry, I don't know how to locate the old URL? I changed a bunch of product listings to new URLs before realising I had to do this, and the new URLs aren't working on google search and now they're not appearing on google at all or some are and some aren't. But how can I locate the old URLs somewhere because they've all already been changed to new things and I don't really understand what to do about that as I didn't 'save' or copy paste the old URLs somewhere and it was all just pre-fill numbers and letters and stuff? Can you help me? Did I just ruin my website!
Thanks for reaching out! Don't worry, you didn't ruin it. If you head to Google Search Console -> Pages (under "Indexing") and then look for "Not found (404)" - this will have the list of old pages that Google can no longer find. Hope that helps - I also have a video on how to use GSC, which might help: ua-cam.com/video/dSCci6Yh5Ss/v-deo.html
I dont 100% understand how to do this for an Index page. The audit plugin says "Your URL word count is 1, try to make it between 3 and 6 words to make it clear and concise."
But Google doesn't except the URL redirect unless you put the complete URL with the HTTPS://. You don't show this in your video so I went to Google search Console and did it exactly the way you showed to do it and it said there was not enough information so I had to redo it with the complete URL and then it worked. Just FYI.
This is not the video for a noob like me. I found the developer tools page, saw the example from squarespace, then you went uierbcijedbfkjedbfjhsdbcjher and it’s done 😂. Where do I go to actually go to input the 301 redirect? Thanks
Hey, thanks for the video. How do you redirect the squarespace homepage to a new domain?
It was such a little thing I hadn't got right, but this video is perfect and my top page hit is working again. Thank you!
Happy to help!
I don't understand. I did this, but the URL stayed as the original.
Thank you this was helpful. Does this also work if you have a two domains and you would like to redirect from one domain to another?
Good question - I'm not too sure sorry! I know SQSP automatically redirects a domain from one to the other if you move across
When you do this in the mapping area, do you do this before or after you change the page's URL slug?
I do it after I change the URL

I think just the same domain!
this is perfect. Thank you

You shouldn't have to, as long as the pages weren't indexed/shared on socials etc.

Do I need to to 301 of i change the seo title? How about if I don't remember the old seo title?
You don't need to do it for the SEO title - only if you change the URL
Is there a way to test if I have done this properly? I am worried that I should include my domain (its not a blog page)
What page is it? To test, you need to visit the old ORL, and it will automatically redirect to the new URL.

Wondering about the same thing!!
Thank you

You shouldn't have to add the full URL - the slug is fine.

I don't understand why this is stressing me out and h1 how to fix it for dummies lol! please
I am not understanding at all ugh
I have a tool if that helps! www.seospace.co/blog/301-redirects-squarespace
