5043 ‘Earl Of Mount Edgcumbe’ rattles out of liverpool- ‘The Mersey Express’ - 01/06/24 - 4K

It was abit of a day where things went wrong today…
It was Vintage Trains ‘Mersey Express’ to kick start the June railtours with Castle Class 5043 ‘Earl Of Mount Edgcumbe’ at the head of the train taking passengers from tyseley down to liverpool lime st via the west coast mainline.
I’d started off with my chase at penkridge for the outward leg where it was hoped the castle would be tanking it through at her maximum permitted speed… but due to her running 7 late and the birmingham bound unit running somewhat early I’d got absolutely blocked.. causing me to abandon the shot completely and try and overtake her past crewe.
I’d chosen winsford for this.. and she was in fine fettle pelting down towards acton bridge at her permitted 75mph.
For the return it was also planned to get 5043 at hartford.. but the plan had been sacked off for me to try edge hill, i new location for me, the castle was holding nothing back climbing the 1 in 80 like it was nothing! A smokescreen of steam sticking around well after the train had gone!
I’d also planned to overtake her and tempt fate at penkridge again, unfortunately this just wasn’t to be as the signallers had put our service train on the slow lines meaning 5043 had been infront of us the whole way back from edge hill…
Sometimes it just doesn’t go your way.
It was a pleasure catching up with some good friends today none the less,
