I'm in feeder training right now and this is extremely helpful. The parts I have trouble in I just reply and watch it as sections instead of all at once. Doing it that way I got most of the pre trip in a day. It looks tougher then what it really is a lot of the components are just the same thing just on the other side of the truck.

I just started my first day today. Haven’t driven is over 6 months and honestly i was very nervous about the driving test and the pre trip. I did quite okay considering the long lay off ! I’m going out with a driver tomorrow ! Very excited about this new chapter.

@@gladiatorgaminginfo5053 Basically a you start with a pre trip like this instructor is doing. Then you go for a driving test where they see your shifting abilities, following distance, ect ect. It was not that bad at all , as long as you’re confident in your driving abilities and are a defensive driver , you will have no problem getting past the test

We get 20 minutes in the yard. To pre trip, hook up, check freight, look for a pallet jack, and straps. I’d be getting a warning letter if I did all this 😂

HR just called me about the feeder relief driver position. I'm a package car driver with my own route. I make about 37.94 right now with the new contract. Feeder makes a a couple more cents than us. ( I checked the pay rate) but i heard they get paid per miles they drive. I'm gonna try it out to see how it goes. Some say I'll like it some say I wont. Either way I'm still making that over 100k a year.

Great video as a guide. I'm currently going through the feeder training. A couple of issues though, when he says 4 way flashers are flashing in sequence, that is incorrect. Sequence means one after the other. Flashers are flashing in unison is the correct term. He also doesn't call out the water pump, alternator, air compressor and steering pump during the engine inspection.
I'm only pointing these things out because they are important.

Truth Seeker 92 I decided to take it Friday that way I have a few more days to study over everything. I will keep you in my prayers about this giant step in your career with UPS. :) When are you all starting feeder school? I do not have any CDL experience or training, so I'm having some anxiety about taking these test. I'm praying I pass all of them the first time around. Let me know how everything goes and I will do the same! Good luck and stay safe dude!!

Hey Truth Seeker 92 I am in the works of becoming a feeder. I have my CDL permit and did my roadtest and just waitning for a class to open up. I have never driven a semi truck before. You think it would be benifitial for me to try and go to a cdl school for 3 weeks and then go to the UPS training class? I want to feel confident behind the wheel and pass so I don't have to wait a year to retry.

    • @wizzenwizardkiller

I field my application today. If she calls me and tells me a class is open before I am done with the CDL school can I tell the HR lady to schedule me for the next available class? I think my hub has to hire 140 feeder drivers.

    • @842qwery
      @842qwery 5 років тому +3

Actually, he slowed down because he's talking and explaining his procedure to the camera. Usually those inspections go quick. It does look unorganized but there's a method to the madness. For years UPS has been refining their inspection protocols down to the second so as to avoid wasting time and effort in unnecessary body motions. This guy is making very good coin, and UPS don't want to pay for wasted time and unnecessary extra steps. They want maximum safety and efficiency, in that order.

8:42 So those trucks came from the factory with a brake dust cover which prevents the driver and/or DOT inspector from checking brake shoe for wear, cracks or oil contamination, which begs the question: Does UPS have some type of exemption as far as being able to pass inspection without a visual check on brake linings? or better yet, are UPS trucks self-certified and exempt from Scale Inspections because of their high level of maintenance and driver training? In my 22 years driving I can't recall ever noticing a UPS feeder truck at a DOT inspection bay.

I'm with you brother I've been trucking 34 years and I've never seen a Buster Brown getting a DOT inspection...
I've had them driving for Southeastern Freight Lines and AAA Cooper Transportation
but I've never seen a Buster Brown driver getting a DOT inspection?
I wondered about that for a long time because UPS takes someone that is a package Slinger out of the warehouse and makes them a truck driver in 2 weeks but...
      I don't see it..
It takes more than two weeks to be a trucker or truck driver...
      The fools can't even
back-up it's unreal how many dumbasses UPS puts on the road when there are thousands of professional drivers that would gladly put on a brown uniform and drive for them...
Even though I work for UPS I still don't get it we could have five hundred professional drivers but instead we've got dumbasses AKA package slingers being trained two weeks and then put in a damn 70,000 pound vehicle...
I don't want my family on the road with anyone in a brown tractor trailer or tractor and a set of joints because you can't tell the difference between the professional truck driver and a dumbass package slanger with two weeks training....

Ups you need to provide your CDL drivers with full PPE protection, not just a vest, but protection eye wear of clear and shaded Safety first. As CDL driver why the shorts and not pants, don't you have check under the trailers. CDL drivers read over and know your OSHA rights.

And then again... By reading through the comments you discover, that there is an actual EXAM to become a feeder driver...
I mean, come on - I am a truckdriver myself, having app. 25 stops a day on a roundtrip that's app. 500 km long - and I have never had any exam besides my drivers license...
Now, correct me if I'm wrong - but feeder-driving is, as far as I know, driving between two hubs. In Scandinavia, we consider that the easiest kind of trucking - something you typically let the newbies do, until they learn to handle the vehicle...
How on earth can that be something that requires an exam - get in the truck, take your trailer, get the papers, drive.
    Why make it so complicated?

QP300 That's why UPS is the best of the best son. They demand the best drivers because they are the best pay and benefits in trucking. Another thing. It takes years to become a UPS feeder driver. You start out loading trucks part time and after that if you have enough seniority you sign a bid for full time package driver. After a few years of that you might get lucky enough to win a feeder bid. You don't just apply for a feeder job it takes years to attain.

@@vikings844 wrong, if a hub needs feeders. They will hire people right off the street. Dont need to go thru package handling, or delivery driver. It depends on city and state.

Instant fail for using heel to check air pressure. A thumper has been required well before this video. DVIR is electronic now. Tap those brake chambers. Horn "audible" & reliable. Pressure hold test engine off no drop over 3 psi for one minute. Brake pedal pressure hold test should be engine off hold one minute. Air lines have to be charged to find a bubble. Slow down dude!
