Great thorough review. I got an M300SE and love it. The Cirrus CS43131 chips are not well known yet, but Dual CS43131 DACS are also used in the Tanchjim Space Portable dongle that AudioScienceReview just measured. Its 114.4 S/N and .0002 THD are better than 2/3 of the full size home DACs they have tested. I agree, its a great time to be buying audio gear.
I really enjoy your reviews. How would you compare the sound of SMSL m300 with the C200 that you were also enthousiastic about? Also, does the chip allow you to fine tune the volume at low volume as sabre dacs do? Many thanks
The C200 is more resolving and has better staging. M300se is a tad more relaxed. Oh and c200 supports LDAC. There's no low gain mode on it from memory but I could be wrong (lazy to pull it out and set up to verify!)
Great, information dense review! I ordered mine a couple of days ago and it should arrive soon. In this video and your written review you mentioned a couple of hard(er) to drive headphones that posed no problem in terms of power. Did you test these single ended or with a balanced cable? Also, do you have any recommendations for a headphone amp to pair this with should one want to upgrade down the line? It seems most balanced options start at 2 or 3 times the price of the M300se.
Thanks for this. I'm in Australia and was curious if you have any information about the SMSL AO300 released Sept. 2023? Has both USB and HDMI with front headphone jacks. There is no information about it on UA-cam.
Both are great for headphones. If you want the absolute best audio quality then US-1+HO100 is technically better but then you take up more desktop space and you probably won't notice unless you have some really good headphones.
Yes, it remembers both when you power down/power up. Because the current draw is very low, and the display has auto dimmer capability, I just leave mine on.
It just means 'uncoloured'. Transparency is used often nowadays because most ChiFi DACs and amps are all focused on neutrality/an uncoloured presentation.

Good to hear. I bought mine when TheCheapAudioman reviewed it, when it was on sale for $105. I haven't opened it up yet, though.
Dual CS43131 are also in iBasso DC03 Pro dongle
This little dac is what made me realize that my other dacs sounded not so good !
It's great! What were you using before?
@@PrimeAudioReviews Topping e30 / hegel super dac / khadas tone 2 pro / smsl su-1 / topping d10 .
@@VirusForPrezso this is better than smsl su-1? Should i get this instead of the su-1?
Thanks for the reviewed subbed!
Will it be good on gaming? I mainly use iems.
Yes, it's perfect for gaming. 🤠

If you want more power I rec the Topping L30 ii or L70.
Hi, is it possible to use both line out simultaneously? I need to connect front speakers in one and one active sub in the other. Thanks

I wanted to try it but no luck so far.
Would this act as a pre-amp or dac for powered speakers ?
Absolutely, yes.
Topping E30 II or this M300 SE ? I want to Purchase Topping but when I watch this review i want to consider this please advise😊
Yes
If you don't want headphones output or balanced xlr then get e30 ii.
Hi!
Can you tell me please....
SMSL M300SE
Or
SMSL SU-1+ SMSL HO100
?
For headphones.

@@PrimeAudioReviewsThank You so much ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
BTW
I have HarmonicDyne Zeus headphones.
Good unit and good review. Remote range is terrible.
Thanks for the review , Does it remember the volume and input setting after the being off?
Yes, it sure does.

They got snatched up quick on Amazon
Does this DAC/AMP work well with the Hifiman HE400se o do I need anything more powerfull?
I don't have HE400se but his should have enough juice for it based on specs.
If I want to listen to Apple Music, how can I connect it to my iPhone?
It's got Bluetooth.
@@PrimeAudioReviews and you can use a cable?
@rushers11 OTG cable should work.
'Transparent' is a word bandied about too often but actually means very little.
It just means 'uncoloured'. Transparency is used often nowadays because most ChiFi DACs and amps are all focused on neutrality/an uncoloured presentation.
