    Riding on the highway is definitely an experience on the Iron! 🤣 BUT I have to disagree just a bit. 70 does sound like she’s outta power but I ride 80 most days and still have plenty to pass cars etc. I think the more you do it the more you’ll trust it. Very informational video brother!

    I feel ya on having anxiety while riding on the highway. I just learned to ride (Less than a month) I am avoiding the highway as mush as I can, staying on back roads. I like what you have done to your bike so far. I plan on doing some mods in the future.

    Riding on the highway is always the most dangerous place to be because of the speed. Crashing at 30mph is not the same thing as going down at +75mph. I rode motorcycles for years and never felt safe on the highway. Now I'm back to riding after more than 10 years and for some reason I feel more comfortable on the highway. Good video.

    Love your videos! Bought a rebel 300 a few months ago for my first bike and I want an iron 883 for my next one next year. So watching your content on the iron is awesome! I’ve been nervous about the high way on my rebel lol. Getting ready to give that a try in the next couple of weeks. Like you, I’m very comfortable now on streets, and watching your highway video was very encouraging! Keep up the awesome work and looking forward to the next video

    Not a bike rider....yet! But even in the car. I would rather take the back roads to my destination than the express roads. You get to see so much more of the country taking the quieter roads. It's just so much more enjoyable than hacking along on a motorway worrying about pot holes, traffic, idiot drivers who shouldn't even be driving. As the saying goes, it's not how fast you get there but how long you stay. Really enjoy your channel by the way....

    Great video, you're organizing the material better and your presentation and clarity is remarkably improved. For highway speeds, even a small windscreen will provide relief. Some people like to preach about gear, they're either immune to heat or travel in an air conditioned cage when the rest of us risk a little uncovered skin.

    Congrats on your highway ride experience! Well done! Now for the serious part - i strongly(!) suggest safety gear (prepare for the slide, not for the ride). There are shirts with Kevlar and protectors out there and Jeans equally equipped. You will bitterly regret not wearing gear when you really come to rub your skin on the pavement. Just sayin´ ...

  • @dustoffmedic71

    There is more power left than you think. I’ve had my Sporty up to 100mph. A small fairing will help get that wind off of your chest

    • @daniellefreeman9734
      @daniellefreeman9734 3 роки тому

      I second that, was nervous at first because I have had speed wobble around that speed when I was 16 with another bike. 883 did it without any issues at all. Mine is a 2002 our but has the screaming eagle kit 1200 kit so I guess it's got more power than stock but as far as the ride was I was comfortable and it seems like it's screaming with gear ratio but had plenty left.

  • @1toddm87
    @1toddm87 4 роки тому +4

    Good video but your over estimating the help of a fairing or a windshield. They can make it worse so as you do more highway riding you will start to just deal with the wind and it will not be an issue. Enjoy, stay safe, and ride!

  • @undead9999
    @undead9999 3 роки тому

    Nice video man.
    Some suggestions, if you want:
    - get gear. You'll regret not wearing a jacket if you go down at 80 mph, you'll ne sitting in the ER numbed by painkillers while doctors scrape debris out of your skin, and then hospitalized. Not a pleasant experience in the slightest.
    - grip the bike more with your legs, you'll avoid the necessity you feel to grab the handlebars so tightly.
    - I wouldn't invest in a windshield, but that's me, I'd learn to cope with the wind. You'll come to enjoy it eventually.

    Great video. Hope you still ride. One little tip for you though. Ride on either side of the lanes. The black strip down the middle of the lane is oil from cars and can be slick.. I have been on bikes for over 50 years and still riding.

    I have the same anxiety! Never had my bike on the highway yet. Had it since October and it’s now January. It’s also rarely been above 50 degrees outside which doesn’t help. I honestly don’t think I could do it yet even if I had to! I’ve always been a very “cautious” soul but it’s kept me in one piece! My youngest son got a Yamaha vstar 650 and was doing 75 on the highway that same day!!! He rode it around the neighborhood for about 20 minutes to get used to it (his first time on a motorcycle EVER!) then off he went! Not me!

    I have had both the 883 & 1200 sportster and found motorway riding terrifying! I think it's not so much about the engine size but the frame and general size of the sportster is not conducive to high speed, sustained riding. I eventually upgraded to a Softail. I do miss my sportster though. Thanks

    If it helps any, riding the Frwy is safer than the surface streets. Keep a eye on your mirrors, find a car going the same speed and tail them from a distance so you don’t get cut off. At night watch their taillights, if they swerve or bounce you know there’s a bump or something in the road.

    Protective gear might help with your anxiety and certainly will help to reduce the extent of your injury(s) should being human finally catch up with you. But obviously it is not a full proof strategy like not riding would be.
    I also deal with anxiety about riding, but wearing the gear all of the time helps a lot, and hey,...I do love to ride. I have three pairs of pants and three jackets and three or four pairs of gloves, etc. to cover all kinds of weather. But I do also limit myself as to where I ride and when I ride to help put statistical probability more on my side.
    Note: Watch those deer (and other animals) on those two lane roads you like to ride. They can be sneaky as they can seemingly come out of nowhere and all of a sudden.
    PS: Your 883 has a great exhaust note. Potatopotatopotato....
