Fun fact: When cats/dogs stare so intensely at things you can’t see, they can’t see anything either. They’re actually turning their ears toward something they’re hearing, cats/dogs eyesight is in fact much lesser in distance and detail than a humans, tho they can both see in the dark and cats are specialized for it- neither can see through walls, but they can hear through them.
Well that's.. Almost worse.
Wow really?
@@ZephyrBW
It’s actually made up of pretty common knowledge in the field of zoology, only sounds weird cause nobody talks about it. Additionally, birds also have amazing senses of hearing depending on the species, the little ones around humans always looking for worms can even hear the worms underground.
@@suruxstrawde8322 I didn't think birds were so interesting or this complex. Zoology the study of animals is highly overlooked at i take it?
They could also be smelling! Dogs sense of smell is crazy
I sometimes wonder if Eda was inspired by La Lechuza. It's an old witch that can turn into a owl from Mexican folk lore I would sometimes hear about growing up.
Would totally go in par with Luz being latina/hispanic
She could be inspired by both.
I was thinking the Irish owl witch (she appears in Song of the Sea)
@@PaintSplashProductions I believe she’s a mixture of a bunch of different mythologies to create their own fictional character and to make her somewhat more unique with her own twist & lore
Dana Terrace actually did mention that Eda was inspired by a Mexican folklore, from what I've heard, so I'd say that's a resounding yes.
Spoilers for the finale:
King's dad, the Titan, has a Hooty sticking out of his right eye socket. Whether this is Eda's Hooty or not, we'll never know. But I like this adds more to the idea that Hooty is a bug demon. A literal worm or maggot feasting off a dead body. Kind of like in the Corpse Bride.
I thought it was a hint that Hooty is way more significant than we thought- important enough to be featured on the physical representation of the Boiling Isles himself.
My theory is that hooty is an extension of the titan, serving as a scout/spy before getting stuck in the in between
Hooty is the titan's tapeworm
i thought it was suppose to be like the snake in the skull image. its even going through the same socket.
I think that Hooty is pest control. Like how rhinos have tick birds. It explains why he’s so eager to eat anything that moves, he can stretch and has seemingly unlimited mobility, but can also lock himself into place for long periods of time.
One interesting thing to note is the Owl Beast curse also has ties to Slavic Folklore. An obscure vampiric monster known as the Stryzga is said to be born a child with two hearts and two souls, with sickly pale skin and a hidden second row of teeth. Upon death, usually at a young age, either from the persecution they often received or from illness, one soul (the human half) will fly off to the afterlife while the other would reanimate the body into an owl-like monstrosity. The revived Stryzga will then stalk through the forests at night and feed on the blood and entrails of unsuspecting travelers or those who had wronged it in its previous life.
I wonder if the door that was found by Eda was made by Titan himself
Watching an Dreaming spoiler: I think the door made from the titan's eye as one of them were missing when luz met the titan
I would presume that Caleb or Evalynn made it.
@@Angelbageltable OMG, Why did I never get that?!
@@torazely I guess that would also work but are we just not talking about how Philip had PLANS IN HIS JOURNAL FOR THE DOOR
@@torazely nope sorry just looked it up because I thought I was going crazy he says he’s writing his journal to follow his journey of MAKING A PORTAL BACK TO THE HUMAN RELM!!!!!! I swear y’all didn’t even watch the show
Really great video! But I can’t believe when you were talking about Baba yaga’s bucket your forgot to mention Eda in her bath tub!
Eda was definitely partially inspired by Baba Yaga
SPOILER FOR WATCHING AND DREAMING!!
I like to think that in the finale, eda's BRAIDED hair symbolizes her growth and character development, becoming more mentally mature
Interesting assessment. Personally, I just hope she'll get her powers back or learn the true nature of the spell that keeps her and the Owl Beast tied together.
Insteresting. I’ve also heard that Dana Terrance has said Eda takes a lot of inspiration from Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo. They have very similar hair styles and facial features. Even the English voice for Ryoko sounds a little like Eda. Ryoko also used to take her hand off from time to time if I recall right, or maybe it just got cut off a few times but she could regenerate it…. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen the series. (Plus there are multiple series, with some characters behaving differently depending on which one you watch)
Plus Ryoko is an immortal demon. I can definitely see the inspiration.
Omg i wondered about this! I loved Tenchi Universe as a kid and couldn't help but notice the similarities in Eda's and Ryoko's design
This is so cool, I'm still so overwhelmed by the Owl House finale, it made me happy to watch this. Definitely more Owl House content, please, the show was a blessing for my witchy heart. ♥🦉
When I finished The Owl House finale, after crying, I thought "I really hope abitfrank does a video on all the Baba Yaga references in this show!" ❤️
The immense amount of pride I felt in seeing the being I follow in my practice, in media and having others notice the connection, is indescribable
This is literally my comfort show and all I have been watching lately since my ADHD has interfered massively with my day to day live. Thanks for posting this!
I have always loved the Baba Yaga mythos and from the first moment I started watching TOH I instantly thought that Eda was drawn from that inspiration. As the show continued, I became more convinced. This was a great analysis. I enjoy watching your content and would love to see more Owl House lore!
When you mentioned that the shape shifter master of the house would turn into a GREY DOG my mind went straight to King… Bellos even calls him a dog in “Watching and Dreaming” !
I loved this video, and it's nice that someone else noticed Eda resembling hugely Baba Yaga.
Aside from Eda being a Baba Yaga, it appears she also has a strong resemblance to Faes from Irish Folklore, I recommend diving deeper into this and making a part two.
Whether or not witches originated from Humans in the Boiling Isles, it's funny to imagine that aside from having obvious English roots, Eda ethnically might be Russian-Irish.
0:40. WHY THIS IS SOO CUUUTE WHY DIN'T I SEE THIS PART IN THE SHOW FREAKING CUUTE KING !!!!!!!!!!
It’s been a little over a week, & I already miss this show so much! 😭
Would definitely love to see more TOH content! The show itself has so much mythological influence from various backgrounds.
When I saw the bird legs on the house in Hooty’s Moving Hassle I immediately drew a connection to the Baba Yaga.
Please do more Owl House videos! I love your in depth look at folklore, and it would fit so well with one of the greatest animated shows of all time!
Definitely!
Baba Yaga is a witch from Slavic folklore and to me, as a Polish person, it's a bit hillarious that some people who have never heard of this tale can't really see the obvious similarities between her and Eda, since to me it was very clear. I just didn't realise that there's anything to explain and yet there we are with your amazing analisys 😅
It's nice to see this fairytale in a modern cartoon show and I apprieciate creators making Eda into something more than just "your cool owl auntie" with references to Slavic culture, since it's full of great stories, myths and legends.
Never thought you would make an owl house video, but here we are.
I would really really appreciate more lore about this show because one day when I’m old enough I wanna create my own cartoon show that’s as good as the owl house and I have a lot of ideas but I also want some more inspiration from the lore of The Owl House
THE OWL HOUSE I LOVE THIS SHOW it’s so sad that it’s over
Also explains Luz's comments about Eda eating her, and Eda eating weird stuff like that one guy from ep 2
Thanks for doing an Owl House video! Eda looks great in your style! Its very interesting how Eda and this witch are tied together. I wouldnt mind another video about this show.
love the owl house. I'd love to see more videos on it. symbolism on toh characters can be really interesting and has some unexpected links to modern history in my opinion such as black triangles
More owl house lore please cuz i'm now really in love with the paralels of the owl house and mythology.
Ok, before I forget how to phrase my thought: Ever since I read somewhere Dana saying that "You don't want to know what Hooty REALLY is" my brain's been stuck to that one idea of a parasitic worm in the brain of the Titan somehow pressing into brain zones & forcing the Titan's imagination to go wild. And everything on the Isles being the product of said imagination.
I don't remember how long but Dana's spend some years in Russia (I SWEAR I read that somewhere) so a lot of Slavic folklore is definitely in the show. I was definitely hoping of more exploring Kikimora's background for that exact reason.
I hoped you watched The Owl House but I never imagined you would do a video about it!!! Yes, please more analysis vids of folklore and The Owl House connections, please!
Never thought I'd see the day where a channel like yours covers a Disney show like TOH
Idk, Ive come to associate you more with old, fairy-tale-ish movies etc
That makes so much sense. I can definitely see your point. Knowing this makes Eda that much more interesting.
You forgot to mention another Slavic creature Kikimora, she was in owl house
Interesting video. I am Bulgarian and I know about Baba Yaga (Баба Яга). Baba means grandmother by the way. And yes-there are parallels and similar things between the two.
Then there's also Kikimora
@@magimthings Yes, Кикимора.

I never expected to see this kind of a lore video about TOH but I am all for it! I love this kind of stuff for my favorite show! 😊
I can’t believe my favorite lore channel made a video about my favorite show :D
Y'know, coming into this i was expecting something wild, unbelievable, and sounding like straight up fanfiction, but after having watched the video, my view on that has changed! GReat video, keep up the good work!
I actually JUST watched the owl house for the first time so its kinda amazing how one of my favorite youtubers made a video about it right when i finished it.
Bonus point: Baba Yagai is of russian myth, and I don't know about you, but Eda's winter outfit definitely has some russian esthetic to me.
@@blackvod1213 well, less lie than ignorance. Sorry.
@@blackvod1213 no no, Baba Yaga also appears in Russian tales as well.
I love the owl house and always wanted to know the origins, thanks for this beautiful video 😊
Love the video, definitely gotta do more Owl House content
I'd love more Owl House lore videos!
Definitely need more Owl House Lore!😁
DEFINITELY do more Owl House content please! I love your content so much anyway, and this somewhat softens the blow of no more Owl House :'^)
Hooty is more than a bird worm in my heart
You got heartworms? you should get that checked out by a doctor!
@@AT7outof10 No, it's Hooty so he can stay there
For some odd reason I was extremely happy to hear you mention Inuyasha! I don't see much talk about it to be honest. ^^
I wonder how Porta-Hooty reporting for Hooty fits into this.
And yes, all the Owl House videos please!
Two weeks ago, I watched the entirety of the show The Owl House and didn’t make any connections with the Babbayaga till now. I just enjoyed the show. It’s an awesome show with an awesome finale. King and Collector are my favorite characters cause they’re cute! And watching the show helped me realize that the Lumity (ship between Luz and Amity) was a canon ship. So is Huntlow (ship between Hunter and Willow). And I cried when Luz “died”, especially from Collector not being able to understand the situation of it. I’m also in LOVE with the Titan Luz design!
I audibly gasped when I saw this video. I never thought you would make a vid about the owl house. So glad you did! I feel like it’s right up your alley❤❤❤
i love learning about creepy origins of stuff and i also love the owl house so this video is really just a perfect mix of both those things
Thank you soooo much for making a video covering the intresting origins and inspiration for such an amazing serie,i always knew that there were things dana terrace and her crew took inspiration from but i couldnt find annything
anyone els that is just looking for any form of owl house content since the show ended
The Domovyk turning into a little dog reminds me of King.
OH MY GOSH YOU MADE A VIDEO ABOUT THE OWL HOUSE!!! 💖💖💖
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED TODAY THANK YOU
Yes Please!
And thank you for how far and wide you go to find all these cool stories
I was thinking it might (definitely on the chicken legs) be related to the baba yaga while watching the show
The flying mortar & pestle is referenced in the episode where King takes Luz & Lulu to his nursery via a motorized flying bathtub that Eda is forced to use bc Owlbert was taken by the previously mentioned group.
Just realised something. In one older russian movie, babayaga has a servant called something sth with kiki, she has enough at the end of the story due to work conditions. Kikimura is also someone that works for someone that kinda expliots her as a worker. 😅 loved that movie as a kid.❤
Thank you for reminding me this show exists. I'm watching it right now!
Awesome video! I would love to see your takes on other Owl House concepts too!!
I m always looking 4ward 2 ur next video. Was so impressed u tied Inuyasha in2 this. I was just talking about Baba Yaga yesterday. I live in the woods & have always felt a special connection 2 animals of all kinds...domestic & wild. They all just come 2 me. Probably get it from my mom...literally the only good thing about her is her ability with plants of all kinds. I swear she could make an orchid grow from a cinderblock. But I'm also very connected 2 the water. I live 20 min from the beach & used 2 surf competitively. The only time I'm truly happy & at peace is when I'm in the water. I'd really like 2 feed in2 this more...
as a big fan of your content and the show itself, im was so excited watching this video
I know I'm late to the party but do more Owl house lore videos please! I just got done watching the show and I so sad that it ended so early.
Ok so uh King isn't a demon, he's a titan. Just wanna point that out in the intro 😅
Now, I love this folklore review!!! When the Owl House ended, this is just the cup of tea needed for it! Wonderful review, you and my sister think alike with Eda being Babayaga haha
I havent watched the whole vid yet, but hooty is a part of the titan, probably something akin to a palisman for titans. He lives with eda, most likely to keep an eye on king and he just became a part of the family.
as a witch, thank you for sharing the tale of babayaga. this warmed me deeply
More Owl House lore videos? um... YES please!! 🦉🚪🏚

Fun fact from someone who's russian: in slavic folklore baba Yaga's house were between alive, normal world and spirit world. In older fairytales she was a wise guider to the main character, but since the christianity came in Rus', she was portrayed with more negative traits, as, for example, eating children (perhaps this is due to the old Slavic rite, when a weak child was born in the family. The Slavs believed that the child was "not finished" in the mother's stomach, and the newborn was wrapped in dough and sent to the oven for just a few seconds.)
YESH IM A HUGE OWL HOYSE FAN AND A FAN OF UR CHANNEL SO IM SO HAPPY THIS FEELS LIKE A DREAM
your editing and animations are eye candy 😍
Holy Titan, YES!!! Please make more videos on The Owl House!
This is amazing, folklore I grew up with and my fav show are connected like this
It's nice to see more videos from you on this channel. Although it'd also be nice to see some more stories on your other one, as nothing new has been added there in a while. Is it on the back burner for a while, or have you not had the chance to do anything with it?
Love the shout out to the domovoi. My family has a really interesting relationship to our domovoi, we call him kesha :3 (not because of ke$a btw)
I heard of Baba Yaga before while watching game theory, so when I discovered that you did a cover on it and is was connected to Eda, I had to watch it
Eda is the best character on the show. I'm so sad that it ended the way that it did. I really wanted a longer season
Blame Disney😔
it ended??? isnt there a second season?
@@056weom there is they had to cut the third season into 3 episodes and they put them on UA-cam
@@-Venus-_doesn't it take like 3-4 hours to binge watch 1 season?
@@056weom yes it was canceled. And the last season was only three hour-long
Broomsticks, staffs, winged shoes, fire wheels and carpets are all one thing, but why would anyone wanna fly on a Mortar and pestle?
While most of this theory is sound, the one issue is Hooty never had their legs to walk around until that episode. In that episode Eda wasn’t even in or near the house during the duration of Hooty with legs storming the town.
I also notice the walloween tone on the serie as Babajoga fits in with as well
LOVED this video!! Please make more TOH videos!
The art in your videos is awesome
Someone mentioned La Lechuza, and they're onto something. I also want to mention Eda (& Lilith) being based on Strix/Strigoi/Strega (there's a gazillion spellings), a mediterranean vampire owl witch, hence the apple blood. Eda also reminds me of the Benandanti, a bunch of feral witchy ppl from Italy who got up to Absolute Shenanigans and honestly seem like a mix of Wise Women and LARPers. The Boiling Isles being the bones of a dead titan is a reference to the titan Ymir's body forming the world in norse mythology (which I think makes King a baby jotun in myth terms, yes, the same as Loki). Dwarves in norse myth were said to come from the maggots that burrowed in Ymir's flesh, so there's a Hooty connection there that is coincidentally ALSO A LITTLE MAN. On the subject of house spirits, a Kikimora is a kind of feminine-ish, small house spirit from around the same regions as Baba Yaga. V/Vee the Basilisk has elements of Basilisks, but also of Lamia (energy-draining female snake vampires) and Tatzelwurms (cat-headed snake cryptids sometimes referred to as "basilisks"- that's why V has a catlike appearance). Honestly I would not be surprised if its canon that Belos crossbred all of those things to make V. As for Belos, while it's never stated out loud, he reminds me of norse Draugr and Wights (two powerful forms of resentful undead, known to blight landscapes and, if they gained enough power, grow gigantic, bluish and have horns and claws). Belos especially reminds me of three specific creatures: Glaum from the Icelandic Grettir Saga, a powerful Draugr whose glowing eyes curse the hero to see Glaum starting at him from the dark for the rest of his life. Grendel from Beowulf, who isn't exactly undead but is heavily connected to Cain, which ties into Belos' whole deeply weird "I murdered my brother and everyone is going to hear about it" thing. Also, the only species name (besides human) ever given to Belos is "Swamp Ghost", which is a pretty good match for several of Grendel's canonical names/descriptions. And Koschei the Deathless, a skeletal old man and longtime foe of Baba Yaga (often, heroes fighting Koschei would seek out Baba Yaga's help), he's the basis for Lord Voldemort as well as possibly Ice King from Adventure Time, a skeletal, maniacally screaming old man who cannot be permanently killed even by cutting him up and burning him because he had separated his soul and hidden it on an island. This was a long reply but I hope it was interesting. I probably missed a ton though. This show is amazing, its so steeped in folklore (and some DEEPLY cursed fandom-culture Easter eggs)
interesting, i wonder if u can uncover emporer belos aka philip , as a character who suffered the main character syndrome and a hero complex, who possibility base on whatever main character in folklores or fairytales
I NEED MORE A BIT LATE FAIRYTALE STORIES❤❤❤❤ pls
AAAAA THE OWL HOUSE IS ONE O FMY HYPERFIXATIONS OMGGGG I LOVE THIS Can you please do a video on maybe grimwalkers (I've seen other commnters suggest it and I think it's a great idea) and maybe you could od one on the collector?? And also King is a Titan, not a demon, /lh

That was so interesting! I had no idea about that!
i didn’t know u liked owl house that’s amazing i hope u make more videos about owl house haha
I still can’t understand how people mistakenly call Baba Yaga, well, YAga, when she’s YagA. Wrong stress for slavic words is absolute horror.
Ага, прям по ушам бьёт эта баба (Я)га, ведь правильнее Яг(а).
It doesnt matter if its person who doesnt speak the languages, we shouldnt get mad if they cant pronounce words
@@Tyomak-ov it’s more of a question to the writers and how English adapts a lot of Slavic words incorrectly, applying the emphasis on the first part of the word and not the latter part
@@Xottapchenko yeah of course I'm just saying at this point if you understand what they mean then theres no point in trying to call them wrong on nuance of pronunciation. Unless they plan to learn the language and speak to others it becomes important. But here it doesnt really matter
