cramer floro i remember a version of the snow queen where the snow queen kidnapped not just kai but all of the people who had the glass shards in their eye/heart as she wanted to reform the mirror (because she’s evil)
Ohhh!! What if that story is inspired from the snow queen? Eternal winter? Captive boy? Bratty? Everything! It actually seems closer to this story than Frozen.
Disney's original idea for Frozen was have Elsa be an evil ice queen, then Anna goes to her and asks her to freeze her heart because her heart is broken.

Oh the story about Snow Queen was so nostalgic for me! I live in Russia and I remember how when I was 11 or something (it was 2010-11) we bought our first PC. And there was a file with the Snow Queen cartoon. We’ve watched it the first thing and I remember it vividly. Also the fun thing I’ve noticed, Kay in Russian pronounced with an ‘a’ as in ‘cat’ and I actually like it that way better, it sounds so great:) Overall, amazing work as always!
@@abitfrank yea, i didn't get it until now so good job. Have you watched the animated Russian snow queen movie from 2012. Its more simular to the original story then frozen.
The Snow Queen is honestly my favourite fairy tale ever. I seriously grew to love it when the school prepared a musical for it! It was our ballet class, singing class and teachers together and it was magical! On the first play we had, I was only in the ballet class and we were the embodiement of the snowflakes. Later, once we decided to do it again, I was also in the singing part and we were this...storyteller? who was keeping company to Gerda and at the same time was invissible to her. I also danced the mirror fragments and that was really cool too! I enjoyed it so much and I am sad that now, because of Covid, nothing like this can be done again...
Omg when I started watching this and she said “snow queen” I was like “I’ve heard that before” so I looked around my room and I found the book, my mum used to read me the story when I was younger like around 5-6, tbh I’m kinda shook
I think that the perfect castle that Elsa makes in the Disney recreation (sort of?) is a subtle nod back to Hans work. As it's mentioned, the boy knows only of math and wants to impress the ice queen. Seeing as Elsa's castle is perfectly created by her and looks just about perfect in symmetry and what not, it could be a nod to the math/puzzles. Another wonderful video!
I remember reading this story when I was a child and falling in love with it. What I loved was the focus on friendship as opposed to romance, and the moral to be good and kind as opposed to the heroine being beautiful above all else. You told the story brilliantly and gave it so much life, and I thank you for it. Hated "Frozen" though. Terrible movie. It was as "original" as "The Lion King" was, wasn't it 😂?
i love "the snow queen", it's top one if i could rank stories (following closely would be wilde's "the fisherman and his soul"). this is a truer love story than the kissy ones, focusing on the connection between two people instead of simple "destiny" and then poof! happily ever after. what got me was kay's task to make the ice shards spell ETERNITY and with all his newfound cleverness, he couldn't figure it out. because the answer was something beyond himself. not too fond of "frozen" either but i did think it was entertaining. as for "the lion king", i've also seen clips of "bambi" and goodness, how disney has an expertise in making animals behave flirtatiously. it embarrassed me as a kid.
I heard a theory once....from Super Carilin Brothers, I think... They said Prince Hans may be the representation of the mirror in Frozen, as he always acts like the person he is talking to. Also, he reveals his true plan after he sees himself in the mirror. After he sees his reflection, he takes his gloves off.....and gloves are a very important symbol in Disney movies. Look it up!
In Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, they have a scene like the Snow Queen where the witch meets one of the boys and tempts him, etc. Very interesting :) also another story, I think it's the sequel/prequel to Snow White (with Kristen Stewart) where there's an ice/snow Queen...just makes me wonder is all.
Oh my gosh, this is the story from that old movie I watched years ago, I couldn't remember the name of it and could only remember the beginning of the movie when he got the ice shard in his eye and the ending when she went to get him in the snow and found him in the ice palace. I always wondered why he left her and went with that witch instead, it always made me sad to think of them separated and how cold and distant he was. Now I'm always left with a sad bitter feeling whenever I think of that movie, but Frozen is different, it was such a sweet movie and I'm glad they went with a happier tone.
I freaking love autum, but as I've grown, I apreciate most seasons for unique beauty. Spring break and picnics. Summer beaches and fresh fruit. Autum in it's entierity. Winter holydays and food.
Ironically, given the theme of the video, my favorite season's winter. And I'm actually more glad, for once a origin story where nobody dies (at least not in any sort of horrible and twisted manner)!
Coincidentally, my favourite season happens to be winter. I love describing it as both simple but breathtaking. Even the bright shade of plain white can invoke so much emotion and atmosphere. To me that can represent something along the lines of creation from nothingness, a concept I have adored for a while.
What's interesting is that I recall an old animated movie we had when I was a kid that told the tale of the Ice Queen, not every little detail was the same, but a lot of the big points were. Would like to find a way to watch it again
The Snow Queen is my absolute FAVOURITE tale. I’ve been watching it since I was a little toddler and I still watch it now because I love it so fricking much. To me, it may even be better than Alice in Wonderland.
Winter is actually my favorite season. I hope we have snow this year, I live in a hot area and it only snows like every 20 years. Winter is not good for online school though. It's easy to fall asleep when you have no courage to get out of the warm blankets and touch the freezing floor...
I remember this story! I had a book of HCA fairytales, and I never was able to completely understand this one bc the wording was hard (and also I was like 11) and so this was great to watch to understand it
I notice we all say about your voice and your stories but your art work as well it all meshes so beautifully . the story of the snow queen meshing with frozen all makes sense. Thank you.
That feeling when the original story was my favourite fairy tale when I was little and I've seen like three movies. I highly recommend all three of them. Two are not that dark and more happy and the last one is pretty dark. And then there's that newer animated movie I've also seen but I don't really count it cause it was changed and has two continuations which are like ,,Whaaat the- How did you even come up with this?!" But yeah, it's funny that in our country (dunno about you guys) we all know most of the fairy tales in their original version. And we don't really realize it's that creepy. xD We're just used to stories in which evil sisters cut their toes off to get their foot in a slipper, wolf's whose stomachs are cut open and filled with rocks so they would fall in a well when they want water, mermaids whose every step is like walking on thousand knives, who eventually DON'T get a happy ending and turn into...I don't know how it's called in English, sorry xD That's what we normally grow up on, no wonder we're so weird xD
Which country did you grow up in? Cause I grew up in Denmark with the same stories, and I’ve already decided that my future children are gonna grow up with them as well (no, they do not get a choice😊🙂)
@@egyptianwerewolf1466 Czech Republic, the dark stories are literally the best, you need some necessary edge in life that's how Americans with only their disneyified versions are so stuck up
Every time I see a new video from abitfrank, I get so excited that i drop whatever I'm doing immediately and watch it. This one is one of my favorites because I knew nothing of the origin story here!
When I was young my father had a large collection of fairytales and folktales from my grandmother. There where 13, each meant for a child of the books number. I made my father read me the Snow Queen every Saturday night when I was over. It was my favorite for years, there was also one I absolutely loved about swans that I can never remember and one about 7 children. Watching these videos just fill me with nostalgia.
Wait if the one with the swans is from Andersen then its called "The wild swans". it's about 11 sons who turn into swans and the 12th daughter has to turn them back into humans.
Interestingly enough, I was made aware of the true story of The Snow Queen from a game called Lobotomy Corporation. An abnormality in the game shares the same name and can 'kiss' your employees, the first one putting a shard of ice in their chest and the second freezing them in the containment chamber. You then have to send someone to go save them, and if you succeed roses bloom in the unit temporarily. It's super awesome to finally get to know the whole story from this video!
I'm auditioning for the title role of the musical version of this story. Not Frozen, but a truer-to-the-original adaptation of the Snow Queen in a couple of weeks. I can't wait!
Hey, sorry it's been so long! Meant to update sooner but the rehearsal schedule messed up my sleep schedule, so . . . Anyways on to the updates! 1) I got cast as Gerda, which I now think is better because she has more stage time and interaction with other characters. 2) NEVER audition for this show! The writers didn't adapt it well, and the music/song writer evidently does not sing, as the notes for the singers are more like instrumentals. 3) We opened on Feb. 7th, and are closing tomorrow, and aside from missing most of the cast, everyone is glad it's almost over! Show has gotten great attendance/reception, despite it being Madri Gras weekend here in the south. Thanks for the well-wishes!
Love the animation style for your videos, I really like to watch Jaiden animations too and what’s cool is you both have different styles for your animations and I love both of them, keep making great animations. Btw I actually found your channel first!
Hi abitfrank, I want you to know your voice is perfect for these videos I love just sitting and listening to you talk about the stories both video and their origins. Keep up the work.
I like to headcanon the Robber Girl as a lesbian, who was absolutely smitten by Gerda, and literally couldn't express her absolute infatuation with her in no way, other than _knives_ .
@Sagacious Cat Human 365 I mean, The Robber Girl barely tickled the reindeer and Gerda with her knife, while Yuri used the knife, the protagonist's pen, and all of that for... Much more unpleasant purposes.
There's this one movie I watched as a kid thats called the snow queen and I'm honestly surprised at how true it stayed to the original story and I felt somewhat nostalgic listening to you talk about the story. So there's that👍🏻
This is actually a really cool story and I kinda wish this was made into a movie! I still love Frozen though! And to answer those questions, my favorite season is Autumn and I would go through any lengths to save my lovely girlfriend, my family, or--if you want to get less physical--the human trait of empathy!
Oh! I remember reading that once when I was younger :'-) Nostalgia is nice And I watched the Movie called "Snow Queen" and saw a theater play of it ^-^
omg this story about the mirror and the glass shattering and the ice is so relevant to the Once Upon a Time snow queen plot abitfrank, if you haven't watched Once Upon a Time, i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend you watch it. the way that many tales tie into each other, the way that they bring back origin elements to the classic disney versions, i think you would love it and be able to point out many things from the origin stories that most viewers would just assume is work of the writers. like if you agree, i wanna see some videos of her pointing out similarities.

Also the fun thing I’ve noticed, Kay in Russian pronounced with an ‘a’ as in ‘cat’ and I actually like it that way better, it sounds so great:)
Overall, amazing work as always!
Ooo. Thats what the bloody eye yesterday was for. You always give great hints. Love the original story.
haha I tried to be vague without giving it all away! And yeah, the original is quite a journey :)
These types of video’s are the reason why I am on UA-cam
The snow queen was actually one of my favourite Tales as a child
It was as "original" as "The Lion King" was, wasn't it 😂?
i love "the snow queen", it's top one if i could rank stories (following closely would be wilde's "the fisherman and his soul"). this is a truer love story than the kissy ones, focusing on the connection between two people instead of simple "destiny" and then poof! happily ever after. what got me was kay's task to make the ice shards spell ETERNITY and with all his newfound cleverness, he couldn't figure it out. because the answer was something beyond himself.
not too fond of "frozen" either but i did think it was entertaining. as for "the lion king", i've also seen clips of "bambi" and goodness, how disney has an expertise in making animals behave flirtatiously. it embarrassed me as a kid.
i literally remember this because of a old kids game, they told all of these types of tales! this is unlocking memories for me, thank you
I find it really cool that Once Upon a Time's Elsa plot heavily involves the mirror plot line.
Look it up!
I don't know why but I love how you create the noses for the characters
The are just so simple and adorable and still so fitting
This gave me major Narnia vibes; I didn't know that this was one of Lewis's inspirations!
I remember reading The Snow Queen as a child, and absolutely LOVING it.
My reaction to the original Snow Queen story summarised in 7 words:
*_"he doesn't love you deal with it."_*
Would like to find a way to watch it again
this was so wholesome it warmed my winter loving heart.
I’ve seen some theories that Hans in the Disney version is the mirror
you don’t know how long I was looking at ur channel waiting
The Snow Queen is my absolute FAVOURITE tale. I’ve been watching it since I was a little toddler and I still watch it now because I love it so fricking much. To me, it may even be better than Alice in Wonderland.
your voice is so calming and your animation is so great!
I watched that very old movie of the snow queen (1957) version and its one of my fav movies since I can remember 💕
Am I the only person who loved the movie of the Snow Queen as a child?
The one with Chelsea Hobbs?
lovetolovefairytales No, I don't think so. I was referring to the animated one
@@sidekickgalaxy oh I see.
And then there's that newer animated movie I've also seen but I don't really count it cause it was changed and has two continuations which are like ,,Whaaat the- How did you even come up with this?!"
But yeah, it's funny that in our country (dunno about you guys) we all know most of the fairy tales in their original version. And we don't really realize it's that creepy. xD
We're just used to stories in which evil sisters cut their toes off to get their foot in a slipper, wolf's whose stomachs are cut open and filled with rocks so they would fall in a well when they want water, mermaids whose every step is like walking on thousand knives, who eventually DON'T get a happy ending and turn into...I don't know how it's called in English, sorry xD
That's what we normally grow up on, no wonder we're so weird xD
Which country did you grow up in?
Cause I grew up in Denmark with the same stories, and I’ve already decided that my future children are gonna grow up with them as well (no, they do not get a choice😊🙂)

Czech Republic, the dark stories are literally the best, you need some necessary edge in life that's how Americans with only their disneyified versions are so stuck up
Every time I see a new video from abitfrank, I get so excited that i drop whatever I'm doing immediately and watch it.
This one is one of my favorites because I knew nothing of the origin story here!
Was that an intended pun?
“Frozen’s CHILLING-“
When I was young my father had a large collection of fairytales and folktales from my grandmother. There where 13, each meant for a child of the books number. I made my father read me the Snow Queen every Saturday night when I was over. It was my favorite for years, there was also one I absolutely loved about swans that I can never remember and one about 7 children. Watching these videos just fill me with nostalgia.
Wait if the one with the swans is from Andersen then its called "The wild swans". it's about 11 sons who turn into swans and the 12th daughter has to turn them back into humans.
I simply LOVE your videos!
And, I don't know if it's just me, but your voice really matches with the animations and the videos!!
Best of luck!
@@abitfrank thanks! 😊
Good luck!
"One has a food hangover"
Oh thank god I was like NO SHE CAN'T DIE RIGHT WHEN THEY GOT BACK TOGETHER 😭😭😭
I love the Anderson’s version of the story, please do more!! 💕🙂
You’re so talented!! I love all these videos
@Sagacious Cat Human 365 Please don't.
@Sagacious Cat Human 365 I mean, The Robber Girl barely tickled the reindeer and Gerda with her knife, while Yuri used the knife, the protagonist's pen, and all of that for... Much more unpleasant purposes.
@@imthecoolestguyalive yep let's not talk about that
Headcanon accepted tho 👌👌👌
Makes sense
There's this one movie I watched as a kid thats called the snow queen and I'm honestly surprised at how true it stayed to the original story and I felt somewhat nostalgic listening to you talk about the story. So there's that👍🏻
This is actually a really cool story and I kinda wish this was made into a movie! I still love Frozen though!
And to answer those questions, my favorite season is Autumn and I would go through any lengths to save my lovely girlfriend, my family, or--if you want to get less physical--the human trait of empathy!
I actually watched •The Snow Queen•
before I did •Frozen•.
And you described it perfectly❤
Oh! I remember reading that once when I was younger :'-)
Nostalgia is nice
And I watched the Movie called "Snow Queen"
and saw a theater play of it ^-^
Your my favourite animator on youtube I love your art style and how you tell stories its unique keep at it your channel will blow up
Oh boy, this should be good more disney comparisons. These are great.
omg this story about the mirror and the glass shattering and the ice is so relevant to the Once Upon a Time snow queen plot
abitfrank, if you haven't watched Once Upon a Time, i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend you watch it. the way that many tales tie into each other, the way that they bring back origin elements to the classic disney versions, i think you would love it and be able to point out many things from the origin stories that most viewers would just assume is work of the writers. like if you agree, i wanna see some videos of her pointing out similarities.
Snow Queen always stuck out to me as a fairytale because it had multiple arcs and intentionally complex characters, its like a epic more than anything
you are making me remember all the tales I've known for so long but forgot about them overtime! thanks
