    Scaffolding is to protect pedestrians during building renovations. In Chicago, some buildings constructed in the 19th century incorporated a lot of terra-cotta ornamentation; in the 21st century, that terra cotta is crumbling and falling. The upshot is that a few buildings here now have semi-permament scaffolding.

    i've been checking every morning since you left for nyc for a new posted video and i know you did cabaret and the notebook and also your personal show (all the best with that) but thank you for posting your vlog and I am such a fan of the near 2 hour running time. I felt like I was back in NYC with y'all (born there and lived there for 37 years and just 9 months ago have moved to Orlando, Florida and I must say, you do NYC better than us residents on the whole. 20 shows in 2 weeks? mind boggling. it'd take me 2-3 years to see 20 shows. anyway welcome back and thank you for being uniquely you (and same for aeron of course)

    Come to Chicago for theater, some trip. Many Broadway-bound productions start (and end) here, not to mention originals and revivals unique to here. And the Willis Tower observation deck -- like the edge, but BETTER -- cause it's 1/4 mile up.

    Thanks so much for another NY vlog! 😃 I love how you guys have this down to a science. As someone from New Jersey, I also regularly enter lotteries, wait on rush lines, and see tons of Broadway shows, but I've been thinking about taking a West End trip to London and don't know how everything works over there (if they have lotteries, rush, or any other ticket deals). A video of you guys explaining how to get the most out of a West End theatre trip would be fantastic for any theatre fans visiting London. 🎭

    I have heard that they are preparing to re-open the Beehive at Hudson yards to the public, so maybe on a future trip. I'm not sure I'll ever not find it creepy.

    Cool Hadestown event.
    Re: public toilets, there are apparently several links on Instagram to help. Also, the public restrooms in Bryant Park are reportedly among the best in NYC.
    If you go to Bryant Park, you might want to consider seeing the free Polonsky Exhibition at the main NYC Public library. There are often theater or literary memorabilia. Last time I was there they had the desk Charles Dickens used and the original Winnie the Pooh plush animals. If the plush are not there (they change the exhibition every 6 months or so), they are downstairs in the children’s section since they are part of the library’s holdings.

      As of a couple of months ago the B&N on 5th ave has a guard posted up in front of the bathrooms and will ask to see a receipt before letting you in (and you still have to enter the code on the receipt). It's super annoying.

    • @littlelizzyann
      @littlelizzyann 4 місяці тому

      @@ThexImperfectionist Do they now?! I rather wish they'd had that rule when I was an employee (B&N restrooms are/were legendarily mistreated), but now, as you say, a bit annoying.

    • @ThexImperfectionist
      @ThexImperfectionist 4 місяці тому

      @@littlelizzyann I was actually there to sit at the Cafe and shop, and since I was by myself I wanted to use the restroom first rather than leave my stuff unattended at a table. I totally understand having a code but it's the requirement to buy something first that I object to. I can't imagine buying a new book and then immediately taking it into a public bathroom and trying not to get it wet on whatever surface I have to set it down on. There must have been a better version of that policy.

      Seconded on Appropriate (though it closes June 23, and it's heavy subject matter). Depends on what you're looking for.
      If you want to see one of the new shows, I would recommend Hell's Kitchen (OBC cast is amazing), Stereophonic (good but long), or Merrily (newish). I enjoyed Suffs and Uncle Vanya. Haven't seen The Outsiders, Water For Elephants, or The Notebook yet so can't comment. No plans to see Cabaret (not for me). The other new shows I'm mixed-to-negative on.
      If you are going for the first time or introducing someone else to theatre and want a predictably fun time, my long-running standbys are Wicked, Six (esp with the current cast), &Juliet, Little Shop, Hamilton, and the Play That Goes Wrong.

    the Vessel turned out to be a suicide magnet, that's why it was closed to the public - I think they're putting in some safety (anti-suicide?) features which is probably the work you saw in progress; however, it's been closed since 2021 so not sure what safety features would justify that. They probably should have just used the opportunity to tear it down.
