    Good job.The emblem on the trunk lid is actually the trunk lock which has a cover that slides for access to the trunk lock....

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  3 роки тому

      Yes but it is only on hardtops not convertibles. On earlier models it is still on the trunk just not functional on convertibles.

    That's a beauty, love the green. I have two of the 64 annual hardtop kits in the stash and I've restored a 65, great looking cars.

    Nice conversion! The rear seat cover is called a tonneau cover. The Landau is a hardtop with a vinyl top and chrome landau bars on the sail panels.

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  3 роки тому

      I can't believe I actually said that and missed it in editing! Thanks for pointing that out. Did you know that was a factory part in 64 and optional. You could even order the wire wheels and make a Sports Roadster for 64 but the actual Sports Roadster was not available as a package deal. Also only a few Tonneau covers were made for 64 and not available as an option in 65-66 but a few were still available through the parts counter.

    Nice save, probably the best thing you can do with a broken promo. I really like the colour.
    The rear hinged trunk and roof storage was due to using the technology from the previous Skyliner hardtop convertible which cost Ford so much to develop that they wanted to use it on the Thunderbirds and Lincolns. AMT’s ‘64 kits came with a lot of optional custom parts including a very attractive curved clear dome roof that can also be fitted on earlier cars, I have a custom ‘59 fitted with one.
    I have the same plan as you, building every T-Bird from ‘55 on, I still need a ‘67.

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  3 роки тому

      Thank you! I know that the 58 was planning a hardtop conv but they just couldn't get it to work. That is why the 58 convertible is so rare and came out late. Also I had planned to do all the convertibles 55-66. I did rebuild a 67 only because I got a nice rebuilder for cheap that didn't need much. So I have restored that one as well but wasn't planned.

      @@TheMuscleCarModeler what’s your plan for the ‘55, convert the newer AMT tooled 1956?

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  3 роки тому

      @@CycolacFan no the 55 I have is a resin copy of the promo. It is complete with interior, chassis, wheels and tires. I thought about adding the engine and cutting the hood but have since decided that when I build it, it will stay promo style.

    Really nice promo conversion! Love the color combo! There are a few models I'd like to get that the annuals are unobtainium for me, I've considered just getting the promos and cutting the hood open and putting in an engine. Or, really just painting and detailing it to my liking would probably be sufficient. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the baby birds, they are my favorite.

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  3 роки тому

      Thank you! I have all 3 of the baby birds but just have not built them. The 55 is a resin copy of a promo and it is missing the lines for the fender skirts. They are on it just no lines so they are molded in! I'll have to carve them in. I also have a resin 57 Battlebird in my stash. I don't know why I have not built any of them yet!

    • @galaxiesteve7139
      @galaxiesteve7139 3 роки тому

      @@TheMuscleCarModeler I haven't gotten into resin yet, I suppose I need to. Thank you for the vids you did on resin. I understand why resin bodies and other parts cost so much. But I've thought of converting an AMT 56 to a 55. I'd have to cast the front bumper in resin since it is the same as the rear bumper for 55 with the bullets removed and exhaust tips installed.

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  3 роки тому

      I like resin because it adds more building options and can fill holes in model kit offerings. My only complaint with resin is the fact that, that part of the hobby is so unpredictable. Some things are offered in such limited time or quantity that it is hard to promote.

    This is a really neat build.
    The valve covers look a lot like the ones in the '57 Ford Fairlane 500 from AMT IMO.

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler

      Really? I'll have to look but that kit should be a 312 small block and not an FE motor.

    I wish you would find a turntable that turns really slow. So you can talk as your model goes around instead of you doing it.
    There must be some turntables out there that turn really slow and I'm sure you can find one

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Рік тому

      I have had one sent to me. I don't use them because of editing the video. If the video is constantly moving, you will see all of the splicing that goes on. You have no idea how many times a cough, clearing my throat, or how many "Ummms" "but" or other things that get edited out. My son interrupting, me loosing track and starting over. It appears much more seamless than it actually is.

    • @scottwoodward3854
      @scottwoodward3854 Рік тому

      Why would you have to edit just talk about the model as its turning around

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Рік тому

      Try it. Making Videos is a lot more work than you think. It's a lot like building a model. You don't just build it.

    Tonneau cover......

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  3 роки тому

      Very rare 64 item. While no Sports Roadster was offered in 64. You could order the wire wheels. The tonneau cover was also available as a separate option in 8 colors. About 50 convertibles were ordered with them. Another 250 covers were available as a part through the parts dept. They were not available in 65 or 66 but that part will fit those years. Reproductions are available now.
