Good video. Ray Lewis and Ed are very easy to argue as the best of all time at the position and Suggs should be 1st ballot. So yeah, not a lot of those guys around, but even with all 3 on the same unit, some years they were not up to the standard as a defense. Defense is a weak link system, and this particular one doesn't really have any. The individual talent is winning the 1 on 1 battles across the board. Look at the guards on the ground getting pancaked in single pass pro brother. They may not be household names, but they lead the league in sacks because they are good enough to run any scheme and avoid predictability, which was always the biggest weakness under Wink.
This is basically the same thing as the new Englad Patriots. Kyle Van Noy, Geno Stone, Marlon Humphrey, Kyle Hamilton, and Justin Madubuike are all great players. But they get less shine than others. The Patriots have an impressive defensive roster as well like Jac Jones, Gonzalez, Judon, Uche, and Dugger but they're elevated to the next level Because of their impressive coaching. So as a unit they are playing much better than other teams with more "impressive/popular" talent. Like Green Bay Packers.
To be fair BBs style of schemed defense allows for certain low key 'talents' to stand out. Lawrence Guy Sr. couldn't really start and succeed anywhere but here he is being a massive man to plug his assigned gap. Kyle Dugger was just a very athletic box safety type but he's key when the Pats practically play 3 safeties in dime package. Along with the depth the Pats have for strong safety. Hell Ja'huwan Bentley whose your classic giant mike linebacker that isn't in vogue anymore in the league has a specific early down role for the Pats against the run.
The premise is wrong. Thr Ravens have superstars AND they have the complete football enterprise - coaching, staff, culture, history, focus and discipline. That's why they are successful. To the extent that some might claim they are also lucky, they are but no more so than others and fortune favors the well-prepared.
What an amazing break down. I hope my Ravens have some good fortune in the postseason this year. I want Lamar to get that chip more than he probably does. The Chiefs still scare me though.
As a Seahawks fan, I’m definitely excited to see what Macdonald brings as a head coach. This seems like the start of a dramatic shift in how defenses are structured, being more versatile/positionless. We’ve already seen other professional sports like basketball find value in moving to more fluid than strict positional players, where the end sum is greater than that of the individual parts. I’ve always viewed the Seahawks and Ravens as cross conference twins in team identity, this seems like a natural fit for the HC job. Ready for the LOB 2.0
MM's pressures are so good you missed it even when breaking it down. The pressure at the 4:40 mark isn't just Marlon Humphrey blitzing, it's both Corners blitzing. The old Chucky pressure. He used it vs all the "Shanahan" teams (i know Ben Johnson isn't from that tree) because of all the condensed formations
Knowing the Ravens, the real gem they would want is a low key versatile 3-tech Lineman that is a game wrecker who can collapse pockets. That way they can pay X-factor guys like Hamilton, Roquan, Marcus Williams on 'top dollar' contracts (but technically cheaper than paying higher impact positions like EDGE, ISO corners). All while drafting edge guys in late first or day 2 to develop them and be complimentary with the elite trench talent. Or maybe throw a 3rd round pick to trade for a HoF edge rusher to play a simpler pass rush role.
As a Baltimore resident, and a die hard #TeamFlock Ravens Fan, I approve this message. (Sidenote: Superstar creation in the works.) Superbowl, HERE WE COME.
"Truly, truly menacing ferocious linebacker who can instill fear in the heart of every offensive player before they even arrive at the stadium." Very true.
Outside of the Lions, have the Ravens really been tested? Wins against sub .500 teams, a suspect Seahawk defense and 2 wins against the Burrowless Bengals. They have yet to play a real playoff contender much less a SB contender. Be real interested to see how they are against Jags, 9rs and Dolphins.
KC lost to GB and Denver. Miami has yet to record a win over a playoff contender, benefitting from a weak division. Jacksonville has hit several slumps this season, and 5 or 6 previous playoff contenders currently don't have their #1 QB. Cry harder. Baltimore can only play who they have on the schedule.
this is something like what bill belicheck was doing for years with personnel groups that can play nearly anywhere on the field. want to see how well it works for them cuz it had quite a bit of success in ne
@@pedrokoto This is why we need to win the Super Bowl this year. If we win it all, Harbs is going out on top. We need to treat the rest of this season like this may be it for him.
Idk. Guys that can execute on their responsibilities to this level every play is a superpower. The communication between all 3 levels of the defense is at a superstar level
We don't need super stars but what we do have is a multitude of role players that together are SUPERIOR! We'll dominate again this year but will sustain throughout the playoffs and achieve their ultimate goal and you know what it is S-U-P-E-R B-O-W-L!!!!!!!🎉
I loved this breakdown, but I respectfully disagree with your conclusion. Marlon Humphrey has been a top 3 cornerback for several years now despite never getting national acclaim. Last season was his best year overall imo, teams basically refused to throw to his side the entire season. Roquan is the nerve center of this defense. Him and PQ are the best LB duo for my money, but I have no qualms if you want to argue Warner/Greenlaw. How Kyle Hamilton fell to 14 still baffles me, but you only need to check the tape to see he's special. They have household names, but the Ravens have rarely gotten the national recognition they deserve so I think that's why these guys don't normally get the superstar label. But they have no shortage of elite talent on defense.
Hamilton succeeding despite falling to 14 is part circumstance and fit. There are few other teams in the league who can make use of his range while playing to his strengths. Especially not putting too much pressure on him to read coverages as Roquan makes that job easier on the entire Ravens back end.
Marlon Humphrey is a 3 time Pro Bowler and 1 time First Team All Pro and has been a fixture on the NFL’s top 100 list for years now. Lol he gets plenty of pub. And anyone who knows football knows who he is. He’s one of the most famous cornerbacks in football.
Marlo def not top 3 😂😂 bruh holds like crazy and can’t teach the ball in the air. Also he plays press without getting physical or putting hands on the receiver
Stats are deceiving. The 2000 Ravens have inflated stats because they got to play, among others, QBs such as Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith (twice), Tim Couch, washed up Scott Mitchell and Troy Aikman in his final year. This season the Ravens have faced an injured and immobile Joe Burrow and the Bengals had to play Jake Browning for much of the second game. They have also faced DTR with no preparation, Josh Dobbs, the pitiful Matt Canada-led Steelers offense and Ryan Tannehill behind the terrible O-line of the Titans.
They also played CJ Stroud, Jared Goff, Geno Smith and Justin Herbert. They are GOING to play Matthew Stafford, Brock Purdy, Tua, and Trevor Lawrence before the season is over so keep that in mind next time you cherry-pick stats.
To be fair its the same thing with the Bengals defense last season. Credit to Lou Anarumo the DC but half their season was going up against the AFC North of flunky QBs among other teams who didn't have their QB1 or had a bad starter out there. But the Bengals defense showed up against strong QBs and in the playoffs. This season Macdonald has the defense executing well but they also ran through the AFC North of flunky QBs especially since Deshaun and Burrow are out. That doesn't take away that the Ravens defense showed up against Jared Goff reminding him that he'll always be 2018 or Geno Smith. They also did well against Burrow in the wildcard last season by confusing him with defensive looks that changed up in the last second. The defense for the most part has been consistent and these next 4 games which include the Rams, Jags (only with Lawrence), Niners and Fins will solidify it as they prep for the playoffs.
It sort of IS a blitz when you drop a lineman and send a DB. It may not count as one, but you're blitzing with a DB. Ravens are doing a lot of things right.
Personally you have to slow the game down for the qb so I’d a single back formation with a two TE set and and have TE on the delay route which slows the pass rush and helps the progression of the qb be able to see what their doing
Obv scheme talent and that but if u look back 3-5 year or so the leagues offense explodes like a nuclear weapon then the defense catches up then someone else happens like rule changes and so on them it repeats over and over we are at defenses catching up give it 3 years for new rules
A little dishonest claiming they faved Joe Burrow twice when he had the calf injury in the first game and was dicing them up before gerting hurt in the secone game
In a lot of these highlights the ravens are playing 2 d linemen. 95 is a olb lol. They have played a ton of dime and nickel. Idk what you mean about not having superstar players though. Only 1 player has more tackles than roqaun since he came in the league (he is probably a future hall of famer). Kyle Hamilton is looking like one of the best safeties in the NFL right now and when Marlon is healthy no one is catching balls on his side of the field
Justin Madubuike, Kyle Hamilton and Roquan Smith may not be superstars but they're playing at an All-Pro level this season. But ultimately credit has to go to Mike McDonald for turning this defense from the worst in the league against the pass to the best. Hope he stays with us after this season but I doubt it.
Ravens were never worst in the league against the pass until their secondary got injured lol Mike inherited a good unit because Harbaugh knew he wanted Mike to become DC years ago.
Friendly reminder the Vikings traded out of the spot where Kyle Hamilton was drafted, selected Lewis Cine instead, and he’s not even suiting up for games 🤦♂️
LOL I dunno about his in game adjustments especially in crunch time. Along with keeping G-RO as OC for so long when that offense got stale and predictable the last 3 years. BUT the fact he's willing to change his staff up to attain results with forward thinking guys like Macdonald on defense and Monken on offense shows the kind of flexibility an HC needs to adapt for the better.
I would argue the game has changed with rules that don't allow for players to opperate with the freedom that Ed and Ray had when it came to collisions...it was a different game. By modern standards Hamilton and Ro are this NFL's version of a star.
This is a STACKED ravens def. Marcus williams jyle hamilton and geno stone at safety, marlon humphrey brandon stephens and rock yasin at db roquan smith and patrick queen at ILB odafe oweh and jadaveous clowney at OLB justin madibuike and michael pierce on the line with a DEEP back up core with kyle van noy beeling a notable name. This is literally 00 & 12 ravens def all over again. And with the offense playing on all cylinders its by far the BEST offense the ravens ever had. This is a superbowl contendong team as long as lamar is healthy
I’m not sure why so many people in this comment section seem to take issue with the idea that this team doesn’t have any superstars. In my opinion a superstar isn’t really just about playing like a superstar it’s partly about your reputation as a player and how that reputation is magnified publicly and a mystique is created around you. You can be a great player and not be a superstar. Roquan Smith has been a very good/ great MLB for some time now, before he got to Baltimore, but I would not call him a superstar. That’s not a slight. He got a 100 million contract with no fuss from the Ravens, which tells you all you need to know, because they don’t just hand those out. I love what I’m seeing from Kyle Hamilton, but he is young and still ascending. As tremendous as he looks now. Let’s now crown him yet. Offensive Coordinator’s still have Plenty of time to watch him and continue to probe for weaknesses. Love Madabuike as well. He is becoming the kind of interior pass rusher I hoped he’d become and the kind Baltimore has desperately needed for some time now. But again, he’s having a breakout season. Let’s see him do it for a couple of seasons in a row, at this level, before we label him anything other than a very good player who has shown improvement over the past couple of seasons. Marlon Humphrey is a very good corner. He is not great, as some have noted on here. He can be got, which is fine, it’s the NFL, I love the way the defense is playing. The Baltimore Ravens have always been less represented in the national media despite the fact that we have been one of the most consistently successful franchises in the NFL. Thats due to our style of play. I’m ok with that as long as we keep winning.

So as a unit they are playing much better than other teams with more "impressive/popular" talent. Like Green Bay Packers.
Don't remember seeing these level of disguises from other defenses other than from Belichick. Who also had top defenses without big name players.
Finally, someone that really knows defense. ☝🏽 Bill & Baltimore have a lot of similarities
John Harbaug trained under BB
Been waiting for a Ravens video from you!
The defence blitzes are incredible .. disguising the cover zero ..
incredible plays..
Our biggest threats the dolphins and bills hypothetically
@@vsauce4678 our biggest threat is ourselves. See the Steelers,Colts, and Browns Games
Roquan, Hamilton, hump, Williams and madabeast has been an animal this season💪
Can’t forget about clowney he been balling all year 😈
The ending gave me goosebumps.I hope we can bring a 3rd Lombardi to charm city this year🙏🏾
As a Seahawks fan, I’m definitely excited to see what Macdonald brings as a head coach.
Can’t wait for that niners and ravens game, should be another huge test for both squads
Yup, I hope both are healthy, relatively speaking ❤
Yes and I want this years defense to make up for the way last years defense played against the Dolphins. I really hope they gear up for that game.
👏 This breakdown was well done
Roquan Smith is a top 3 linebacker this season, I wouldnt necessarily say he's not a superstar
This is a man who understands ball. All the other commentators (aka haters) are just laymen.
There’s not an Alex Rollins curse like Brett Kollman right? Right?!?
I always say imagine it we the Ravens have a TJ Watt or Garret on our defense. It should be lights out
Knowing the Ravens, the real gem they would want is a low key versatile 3-tech Lineman that is a game wrecker who can collapse pockets.
1000% worth the wait. Amazing video 🙌🙌
As a Baltimore resident, and a die hard #TeamFlock Ravens Fan, I approve this message.
(Sidenote: Superstar creation in the works.)
Superbowl, HERE WE COME.
great video. incomplete without mentioning justin madubuike tho. guy's been an absolute gamewrecker on the interior D-Line.
@@mars7304 So true mars. They had a game scheduled last night in fact! They showed how good they were. :)
I love the clowney and Van noy singings
this is something like what bill belicheck was doing for years with personnel groups that can play nearly anywhere on the field. want to see how well it works for them cuz it had quite a bit of success in ne
Hoping all is well Alex. We know you had a delay last week and are wishing you the best.
Keeping McDonald is going to be much tougher much more quickly than we thought. If he doesn’t get an HC offer in the off-season, I’ll be shocked.
Our defensive coordinator go be a gead coach real soon. He is a genius
The end of the video defintely surprised me lmaoooo
I can't lie cool ass title ... You got me in with the title alone 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🖤💜🖤💜🖤💜
They play the 9ers on Christmas, ya’ll! Let’s go!!
Mike McDonald is a genius
Most of the guys on that defense that aren’t “superstars” will get paid this coming up offseason if the ravens don’t keep them
Lmao I wrote a crazy rap to that first instrumental you used
It's impossible to be elite without superstars.. they just not recognized by the masses...but they definitely superstars
Its crazy how no team tried to get Lamar in free agency
Mike Macdonald could become a head coach sooner than we think. He's a very smart DC
Selfishly hope not 😂😂
@@jacobsims8307 It would be cool to see Harbaugh hand it off to him and usher in a new era. Hopefully he stays with Baltimore
Brandon staley at some point is a smart dc 😂
@@pedrokoto This is why we need to win the Super Bowl this year. If we win it all, Harbs is going out on top. We need to treat the rest of this season like this may be it for him.
@@michaelhession2105 agree 100% I’ve been telling my friends and family the same thing all year
About damn time 😭 now you need to make a vid on why the Eagles defense got worse
Idk. Guys that can execute on their responsibilities to this level every play is a superpower. The communication between all 3 levels of the defense is at a superstar level
They have superstars on both sides. LJ, GE, ZF GS, PQ, RS, MP
We don't need super stars but what we do have is a multitude of role players that together are SUPERIOR! We'll dominate again this year but will sustain throughout the playoffs and achieve their ultimate goal and you know what it is S-U-P-E-R B-O-W-L!!!!!!!🎉
11:06 Okay. Let's hold you to that.
THANK YOU‼️🔥
Roquan Smith is a superstar.
@@boogidwnej179 he mid af this year. But he’s been really good in years past.
@@joeynickles7962 I’m agreeing with you lol
Our Ravens defense, makes elite Quaterbacks play like the Zac Wilson! They gave us a bye week at Week 12! 9-3 1st in our division and the AFC! 🐦⬛🔥🎱😈
Anyone here after MacDonald signing with Seattle? Future is bright for the Hawks!!!
I want the battle of the birds to happen. Eagles vs. Ravens superbowl baby!!
Love too see it
Stats are deceiving.
😂 sound like a bunch of excuses to me
They also played CJ Stroud, Jared Goff, Geno Smith and Justin Herbert.
Personally you have to slow the game down for the qb so I’d a single back formation with a two TE set and and have TE on the delay route which slows the pass rush and helps the progression of the qb be able to see what their doing
need one more left in 2024.
Can you cover how the falcons have a top 10 defence dispite not have a single player with more than 5 sacks.
Still faced him twice, that's on Burrow for being injury prone.
Agreed ⚡
Crazy to make this video when the browns are currently better defence by all advanced metrics
as a ravens fan it was awful watching our defense get tired and seemed like they gave up vs the browns.
Lol agent zero running stride for stride with williams deep middle
In a lot of these highlights the ravens are playing 2 d linemen. 95 is a olb lol. They have played a ton of dime and nickel. Idk what you mean about not having superstar players though. Only 1 player has more tackles than roqaun since he came in the league (he is probably a future hall of famer). Kyle Hamilton is looking like one of the best safeties in the NFL right now and when Marlon is healthy no one is catching balls on his side of the field
Isn't simulated pressure a zone blitz?
You talking disguises, I'm just watching the D line blow the O line 7yds off the line every pass rush
Roquan smith is a Top 3 linebacker, Marl is a Top 5 cb when healthy, Kyle Hamilton is Top 5 in the Saban-ish Star Role. Those are stars
Mike Macdonald should be a top head coaching candidate
John Harbaugh is an elite coach. He’s criminally underrated.
What is the song in the outro?
I would argue the game has changed with rules that don't allow for players to opperate with the freedom that Ed and Ray had when it came to collisions...it was a different game. By modern standards Hamilton and Ro are this NFL's version of a star.
Bold prediction, let's go
This is a STACKED ravens def.
Roquan is superstar level
He can be got, which is fine, it’s the NFL,
I love the way the defense is playing. The Baltimore Ravens have always been less represented in the national media despite the fact that we have been one of the most consistently successful franchises in the NFL. Thats due to our style of play. I’m ok with that as long as we keep winning.
Roquan is a superstar watch the film. It’s him and Fred Warner then there’s a gap between every other inside linebacker in the league.
LETS GOOOO!!!!
Disrespectful to Roquan. Dude is a superstar
And the craziest thing is they aren't even the best defense in the AFC North.
