This was awesome!! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. The details in this game are one of its highlights. Also, stay away from the Polaris at this time if you don't want to be greatly disappointed as I feel it was rushed out the door before getting this kind of work on its interior, mainly. It's missing labels, lighting, and... well, a lot. Hopefully they'll get around to finishing it one day. Cheers!
thank you so much! I dont plan to do a ship as large as the Polaris anytime soon, I don't feel it was rushed but it does need a few more passes. I have been inside and it does have the ben curtis sticker but last I checked it was a low-res sticker. Aside from the low-res sticker, in lore the polaris was a rushed contract ship for the military which does explain some of its feeling
This is what I did when I get into a new ship, but I was afraid it would took too long and too boring to do a video for it. However, you presenting it perfectly with so many interesting points. You've gain a sub!

@asideoftoastgames RSI does put a lot of work and details into their ships. I'm looking forward to more ships getting their gold standard pass and possible design updates. Especially with the introduction of life support. I think that ships need to have an airlock system. The Intrepid with the "sealed" cargo bays, could allow entrance and exit without having to vent a large amount of atmosphere.
@@SOGBulldog live support is going to be a really fun gameplay element to play around with. oooh that's a very good point! hadn't thought about using them as mini airlocks!
Nice work! I never really noticed these details up close but I know my brain picks up on all those lines to give it an authentic feel. Thanks for your input I look forward to seeing more of your videos!
I own the Zeus CL and it is my favorite ship. I did melt for a Starlancer and I couldn't stop thinking about it so I bought it again. It's my daily driver and I only break out the Starlancer if I have really big cargo runs to do.

Thank you for the kind words. Doing a platform or refinary is way outside my comfort and knowledge zone at the moment, but perhaps one day I'll tackle one!
Great video, love your perspective. CIG adds all that detail, but we never see water storage or grey water. Any boater or RV owner knows how much room they take, especially for long term travel. We don't even see the space for fuel storage.
thats a good point, ive never worked on an RV before so the waste water tanks didn't even come up. perhaps the ships have water recyclers? in this ship the fuel tank is behind the glass on the other side of the kitchen, I know the carrak also has fuel tanks but I'm not sure if I've seen them on others 🤔
Fantastic review! I noticed the nav lights as well, and though I would still prefer they reflect current usage, I can see how it would be less effective in a ship that spends the majority of its time in open space. If you approach the ship and you are inverted in relation to its orientation the lights would indicate the ship is moving in the opposite direction.
Even in space I can see proper nav lights being a good immersion element to gameplay. The biggest downside to my point is when targeting a ship it shows it's orientation making nav lights useless. I did slightly miss speak in my video. On boats the nav light is white on the rear. On airplanes it's on the belly. I'd understand making a new color for spaceships as they have headlights.... So maybe purple or blue?
the drastic difference from the Connstelation series of ships and their einteriors to the Zeus is almost like it's an entirely different manufacturer. i do understand they were designed like, 10 years apart though and the ships may also serve different purposes and such have different interiors to match but with crusaders and Drake ships, they still ahve a pretty consistent flow that applies to all the ships, i feel. not so with the Connie vs other RSI ships.
this is specifically why i made the comment about feeling like this ship has a new design bible from past RSI ships. its feel is way to different for us to believe it came from the same company unless it was updated with the other brands when the design team updated there internal rules I wanna say 6 months to a year ago
Nice Idea to check shipdesign from your perspective. I've learned a lot. It would be great if you do it for other ships/manufactors to. (Starlancer for example or some drake ships) I do like to see more videos from you. Tanks for UA-cam effords.
They will be coming! The next ship I'd like to do is the Guardian once 4.0 is officially out. Your not the first to request the Starlancer, if I can get access to one I can make a review. I've also thought about the Terrapin as it was recently brought up to gold standard for Squadron. But yes so many more reviews to come!!!!
A great review. Better than those of Morphologist (his seem more rehearsed, and less sincere). I've pledged for the Galaxy and Railen, so I can't wait to see the detail they put into those ships.
Thank you for the kind words! The first draft was more rehearsed but felt it.... Just wasn't right. This looser style I think shows more feeling. The Galaxy and railen will be really cool ships to review. Seems the design team puts a little more detail in with every ship, each one gets more exciting!
I thought it was a great review. Not harsh at all. I did have one question on the latch you talked about at 3:55. I know that in plumbing, a lever valve on a pipe in the US is open when it is in-line with the pipe and off when it is turned perpendicular, but in the UK it's the opposite ... perpendicular is on and in-line is off. Could something like this just be a similar design language difference?
Thank you so much! Really happy you liked it When I made the comment I was not thinking of piping but you are correct. When their inline it's open. I don't think that was the case for this though at the same dial is on the opposite side of the panel making it appear as it's a locking latch, at least that's how I see it. Could be completly wrong. Perhaps someday the gold standard will be so high we can take these panels off and see what's behind them ^_^
RSI doesn’t care about OSHA, NTSB, or FAA regulations from 900 years in the past. Stickers and labels are immersive and accurate enough as is. I think the team did a great job on that front. Design language, material usage, space usage and ergonomics are far more interesting. IMO, as a non-engineer, is this is one of the better designed ships… maybe even top 10.
It is a very well designed ship. It's hard to talk of design language when it's so different from the rsi preexisting design language. Because of this had to treat it as a standalone. As if the design Bible was updated for this ship
I have to ask, as a 2020 Camaro SS owner, what is the purpose of the back seat? And who's idea was it to make the right side blind spot so annoying? Otherwise love my car and yes I totally screwed myself on warranty after modifying my car and yes I already had to rebuild the engine once, so much for crankshafts breaking under 460rwhp for no apparent reason along with 2 pistons and 2 rods with nothing but CAI, E85, and headers. Not a defect at all! *cough* yes it is and GM knows it. Either way rebuilt my engine with better than factory after market internals and will probably end up doing it again when something else that isn't supposed to break breaks.
Different regulations come into play when a car has technically 4 seats vs 2. Same thing for a 2 door vs 4 door. Realistically those back seats were probably designed with pets or young children in mind or as a place for groceries. As for the rear pillars, that's more tricky. As safety regulations increase new measures need to be meet and in return the pillars get thicker to support a heavier vehicle incase of a rollover. The rear pillars, in the auto world known as most commonly the c pillars. They go a, b, c, d with a being the ones at the windshield. The c and/or d pillars become the thickest as visiblity for the driver out front is most important. Pillars a and b will still get thicker over time too to help with weight but their thickness is more to do with integrated airbags. Once you get into the c and d pillar areas the airbags are often built into the headliner. Though more and more im seeing the Airbags put in the headliner starting right after the a pillar before b. Last vehicle I worked on this year only had an airbag in the a pillar and the rest along the sides were in the headliner, not counting the one in the steering wheel and dash for the passenger. As for the engine issues I'm sorry I can't give any explanation 😔 That's outside my knowledge but perhaps an engineer can chime in and provide something Hope you have a happy holiday!

@asideoftoastgames agreed. The original MKI looked like a modern space shuttle and in some aspects...better. I would recommend you take a look at the CL model, the cargo variant. It has less space for amenities and somehow this works better for the kitchen. Don't get me wrong, it feels more claustrophobic on the CL but design wise makes much better sense. I also prefer the CL cargo design, especially the small rail/ramp that connects the cargo and the rest of the ship, but it loses the very cool glass panel that shows the fuel tank.
So, we gonna mention the asinine job they did with the rear hatch? It’s intentionally narrowed so as to not fit an Ursa and incidentally makes it far harder to load cargo efficiently into.
