Growing up in the 80s we never purchased new starters or rebuilt starters. We always purchased a rebuild kit for about four dollars to seven dollars.

Great idea for keeping those brushes open. Going to try it.

I had the dreaded no start, so looked up a solution (your video, and the one on fault finding) are very easy to follow and helpful thank you.

When did you move out of the US? Last thing I remember you had bought a farm somewhere in like Virginia or something?
Glad to see more content out of you. Like blargh7375, I ended up building and restoring a couple of motorcycles and some of your videos were God-sends for helping me figure out some of the issues.

We sold the farm 2 years ago and moved to Belize, probably be here another year and then go somewhere else. Im glad you found all these videos helpful :)

Nice demo, Max! Loved that tip about using a spray can cap to get those brushes into place. I'm surprised the solenoid is separate from the motor here. Is this from a motorcycle?

    • @mrmaxstorey

Hey buddy its from a SUzuki outboard motor, but lots of motors have integrated solenoids. Im not sure whats the advantage

i had to wack my starter motor the other day for it to start, so is it my brushes that are worn ? i wasnt sure if it could have been the solenoid on it sticking a bit?

    • @mrmaxstorey

While both are possible, it is more likely to be the brushes

Hey Iv got a question form a video 9 years ago lol I have a 1980 Suzuki and I cannot figure out how to change the headlight for the life of me. How do I get the bulb out of the casing to actually swap them out?

    • @mrmaxstorey
      @mrmaxstorey  3 роки тому

      Which model Suzuki?

@@UrNotGood9809 yea unfortunately on that one the headlight bulb is integrated into the front glass. To stay oem you got to replace the whole thing, and there are some available on ebay. Lots of guys have cut out a hole and taken out the filament, and then fabricated a clip to accept a standard replaceable H4 bulb

That's not a see clamp! Its a Jesus clamp!
When it flies off to God knows where and you say "Jesus, where in hell did it go!"
    Carbon or
Graphite will do in a pinch! Carpenter pencil lead! Nail polish to bond the pieces together!
