    Clear, concise and straight to the point with no begging for funds on Patreon. Excellent. Very refreshing for UA-cam.

    This is just the type of content that I have been looking for John - beginning or basic F360 tutorials to help me learn to use my new Tormach mill . Thank you! BTW the new web site is fantastic! I signed up for the premium level because It's a bargain and a no-brainer. Please keep up the great work!

    To accomplish this in Mastercam just project the wireframe onto the surface, window select the geometry, set your parameters and your done....I did this yesterday with 4 lines of text .170 high .025 dp with a 60 deg. engraving cutter.

    I’ve seen something similar using sheet metal in F360 so you can wrap a text all the way around the part, this will allow you to have the text walls radially from the center of the circle. It would be great if this can be implemented in fusion. Then I can actually wrap the text fully around a part

    This is projection of flat text onto a (curved) surface. Can you show us how to WRAP text around a cylinder? That would be the next step.

      I've watched a couple of videos about this and it seem pretty hard to do with F360, closest i could find is using sheet metal wrapping

    When will Fusion support using variables in the text? I want to engrave parameter values in the part, so one can tell which version this is. That has to be fairly common idea with parametric CAD.

    The way to actually WRAP the text is to use sheet metal tools. Its much more intricate than what is seen here.

    Just mill this on a small diameter and you see, that the feedrate during rotary motion is slower than the X axis. This wastes time, if you mill a full cilinder and can damage your tool. Do you have tips for this problem?

  • @gredangeo
    @gredangeo 6 років тому +2

    Hey John, why is your Z0.0 on the top of the part? Wouldn't make more sense for it to be the rotational centre? Once you know where the axis is rotating in relation to the table. Your Z Offset in G54 doesn't need to change.

    • @ipadize
      @ipadize 6 років тому +1

      if you got a machine with TCP and PLANE function (as far as i know only Heidenhain), you can put the part zero as well as the part iself where ever you want

    • @gredangeo
      @gredangeo 6 років тому

      That sounds cool and all, maybe for specific jobs. But for general purpose, I like seeing the Z0.0 as the Axis centre. It makes the program look consistent, especially if you're working with multiple diameters.
      I know that any Negative value must mean the tool tip is going below that Plane closer to the table, and depending on how close you are to the headstock, you may need special tool lengths to avoid it. The top of the 4th Axis should also be known, and thus you already know your minimum tool length requirements using the difference between the two.

    Thanks for this! Been learning a lot but how would you do this on a domed surface where the curve went in multiple directions? Say cut this on a "football" shape. Are there 3D paths that accommodate this type of machining without additional axis? Also, what if it was a raised letting and you wanted to remove the tube material leaving the lettering?

  • @roul3688
    @roul3688 3 роки тому

    I know nothing about machining so any help is appreciated. How can I tell Fusion 360 that I need to flip/rotate my part? For instance, say I have a cube. I need to bore a hole straight down through the middle, then flip the part so the hole is now horizontal and make other cuts. Do I need to have two separate programs for the machine or is there a way to "pause", change the orientation of the part and continue?

    I can not put the text on the 3v model in the STL format, the text is select and the model does not

    • @BrainSlugs83
      @BrainSlugs83 5 років тому

      You have to convert it to a BREP solid first. Fusion doesn't edit STL files directly.

    I followed this tutorial, and in fusion 360, it works exactly like this. However when I post this (Mach3Mill), and run it, I get strange behavior. Fusion 360 adds g-code to move Y in addition to rotating A. So what I get is a line of dots, since the rotation of A is accompanied with a movement in Y, the cutter moves away from the part, which is cylindrical. The only time the cutter touches the part, is when the Y axis approaches 0 and A approaches 0, then, the cutter engages the part at the apex. I've tried starting the part from a clean slate, using all the tricks John specified, and it still creates Y movements.

    I am wanting to engrave my company name on a tapered cannon barrel, but when I try to select the tapered cylinder fusion does not seem to recognize it as a cylinder. and when I select a non tapered cylinder I do not get the results I want. Is there a work around for engraving on a tapered cylinder and if so how do I do it.

      Either that or just 2D contour like John described, but without selecting wrap toolpath. I actually prefer 2D contour for engraving myself.
