    Really useful video! Great explanations and still extremely relevant. Most people don't realize how valuable a 4th axis rotary can be on a 3 axis mill with the right cam

    Indeed Super nice and short tutorial, direct to the point , Still useful and great today. Hope you do more like this for the new additions of Fusion cam

    Great video. A machine simulation would be a great add on, although I respect keeping these videos short. Thanks.

    Very Cool Mike. I’m not there yet and will probably never be required to preform this very complicated & professional task. But had to watch. Thanks, Sgt. Dave

    Hello. could not make a video of how you made the screw groove. and how to work on the lathe-milling machine.

    Hey, in 9:37 you select the whole contour and it generates a toolpath. However, when I do that, Fusion says that it cannot unwrap cyclical geometry. How could you select a closed contour? Does it no longer work?

    Mike : Just watched the video and can you help me figure out how to do a gear that is a spur gear with an extended smaller cylinder piece. I used the gear tool to create the part then recreated it in the correct XYZ origin to the main origin. Is there a way to figure this out?

    is there any way to make the Z axis zero on the surface rather than the origin?

    How do you machine a 3D object like a toy car, on the A-axis using A rotation?

      You'd probably want to use the flow toolpath with limit fourth axis turned on. Flow is a great 3 or 5 axis simultaneous path for surface countouring that keeps the tool normal to the surface at all times. It's useful for gaining tool clearance in tight models. But in order to get the fourth axis limit to appear, you'll need to turn on the beta mode of the cam side of fusion. To do that, go to the top right menu and select the view tab from the file menu, then turn on the command line. Then type cam.betamode/on after you do that, the forth axis limit for flow will be available to use

    this propably work on mill where y axis can move, but how this done on 4-axis lathe where is no y motion. i can use g7.1 i not need cam do millions lines of code,but outer diameter and inside diameter of those pockets have to be difrent. to get straight edge on centre line. will cam generate it for 4 axis lathe like that? i know surface on that cylinder tool path can be calculate by head measures are in drawing haha ,but already after 0.0001 step down thats have to be smaller path in c-axis of course z axis is same :)

      What 4th axis do you have on your lathe? If no y, isn't it just x z and c?

    You selected upper line when it was supposed to be lower. Your toolpath was wrong.

    What if the pocket is deep enough that the chipload at the bottom is much different from the chipload at the top because it's closer to the center of rotation?

    • @nickscacchetti8401
      @nickscacchetti8401 7 років тому

      i dont think it will matter 2 reasons. 1: the tool is spinning (very fast btw) having a very uniform chip load across the tool. 2: when machining in 4 and 5 axis 99% of the time you will be machining in a mode call inverse time/feed. i believe it is a G93 google its very interesting.

      Speed is part of the machine control software. But I'm talking about parallel toolpath distances. I have that same problem with my CAM. Models made in materials that easily melt and having parts at radius 60mm as well as radius 0mm at the tip or -15mm in asymmetric parts. When an initial d=1/5*tool_diameter becomes an effective d=1/20*tool_diameter you are rubbing and thus mishandling your tools and your material melts or catches fire.

    • @MrAbeAllen
      @MrAbeAllen 7 років тому

      sergio jimenez I don't know for sure but that happens to me when my parameters are not correct. Like if the height and depth I'm cutting don't actually interact with the model. Or if my "setup" isn't quite correct. You've probably solved it by now right? ;-)

      @@dustinnelson7119 Wrap Toolpath has this blue icon where it used to be a checkbox that upon clicking goes "Available with a Fusion 360 Paid Subscription" as in Fusion 360 2.0.12160 - Active Plan: Fusion 360 Personal.
      Personal:
      Individuals with non-commercial personal design projects.
      Individuals doing home-based non-commercial manufacturing and fabrication.
      If you got the education one or any of the paid, of course it's there.
      that will run you $495 a year, or if its only for a month 60$
      happy to listen to your advice how to get it anyway without breaking the law or other shenanigans :-)
      oh, and btw. now i have to make the projects i am working on "read only" and "editable", and you can only have a few "editable".
      that also changed, as well as the very slow positioning speed and other things that makes a 20min job on a very slow machine, even more tedious.
