  • When it comes to soundproofing a door a tight seal is critical for proper sound control. Your largest gap is at the bottom of the door and nothing can seal that as well as an automatic door bottom. What is an Automatic Door Bottom and how does it work? In this video you will see the basic layout and functioning of an automatic door bottom including a video of an automatic door bottom performing in action.

    Would this block water as well, like say spray from a garden hose?

    How well does this work in a carpeted floor ?
    Does the bottom of the door need to be few inches above the floor for this ?

      If the carppet is not to plush it will work well. Gap should be mot more than half inch for best performance.

    never knew something like this existed until recently, very clever. Is it practical to mount an ADB on the outside (exterior side) of an in-swinging door ? How would it hold up to the outside elements, lots of rain where I live. Would the top surface need caulked where it touches the door skin?

      Hi. The heavy duty ones hold up well. to the outside elements. Would be a good idea to run a bead of waterproof silicone along the top.

    We are replacing a sliding door that has failed and are considering a Pivot Door. We are on the Florida Gulf coast where impact resistant hurricane doors are required. We are concerned about water infiltration in the pivot door product.
    Question 1): Have you tested your system for use in a hurricane zone (HVHZ) application?
    Question 2) : Can your automatic drop seal product be applied to an ANDERSEN Pivot Door Model APD-T with High Performance sill option. (Right side in-swing only)
    Question 3): Are the internal components of the automatic drop seal product made of stainless steel to prevent rusting in coastal environments?

    Before purchasing, I would like to know EXACTLY how pushing the plunger on the end causes the seal to drop. I do not like to purchase anything without knowing how it works.

    How would you deal with the small amount of light coming from the bottom of the gasket and door trim?

    • @Tmsoundproofing
      @Tmsoundproofing  4 роки тому

      A door dust plug can help with that (Using semi or fully mortised Automatic Door Bottoms will also avoid this problem as the gasket will sit in front of the ADB) www.tmsoundproofing.com/automatic-door-bottom-mortised-for-1-3-8-door-ez-access.html

    I live in a condo where it is not permitted to install the sweep on the hallway-facing (outside) of the door? Are there any automatic solutions that can be mounted to the inside of the door?

    • @baxt1412
      @baxt1412 2 роки тому

      No you gotta think about how doors work. The inside surface of the door is going to be flush with the door jams so there would be nothing to press the switch in

    • @elizaehrlich
      @elizaehrlich 2 роки тому +2

      @@baxt1412 You could add some wood to create something for the switch to push against. Looking around there's also ones you can mount inside the door itself.

    It's actually called a mechanical sweep

    • @johncook02
      @johncook02 3 роки тому

      Incorrect. Automatic door bottom is correct. Search Pemko 4131, similar to this product shown.

    • @DFWJon
      @DFWJon 3 роки тому

      Negative, and here's why. While the internal workings, of the door bottom, are mechanical. The lowering action of the door bottom, however, is performed automatically any time that the door is closed, or opened, due to the fact that the set screw is activated by the door frame. The operation of the door bottom is done automatically anytime the door is operated manually. So, by definition, "automatic" would be correct when describing the door bottom. Furthermore, no part of the door bottom contacts the floor when the door is in motion and that would make "sweep" incorrect as well. So, in closing, it's actually NOT called a mechanical sweep. Sorry, to be the 2nd, bearer of bad news.

      @@DFWJon lol listen bro Im not sure what knowledge you actually have but I personally been in the automatic door industry work for Stanley access technologies for 15 years AAADM certified and all. we call those types of parts mechanical sweeps... Why because you can't automatically activate that sweeps unknowingly you have to KNOWINGLY Activate the that sweep by either pushing the actuator in or by the actuator making contact with the jam side of the frame... But ok door god🤦🏻‍♂️😂
